Gringo Expat in Guatemala

That's Ashwan. He's been in San Pedro, Guatemala forever. Us expats are trying to help him get back on his feet. He has mental problems that some say come from the civil war. He doesn't drink or do drugs, and isn't violent. The church bathes Ashwan regularly and gives him new clothes. Locals make sure he's fed. Most restaurants give him free coffee, loaded with sugar. Everyone greets him. He never answers, but it probably helps him feel safe (he's always looking over his shoulder -- running from the ghosts, I guess).
