Libby Melleney

Hi everyone, My name is Libby I am 17 and I have been given a once in a life time opportunity to volunteer in an impoverished island called Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania. I feel this will be an extremely rewarding opportunity as I will be helping in a school which lacks resources we take for granted such as chairs, desks and stationery. During my time there I will be helping with teaching the students and coaching them with sport as the schools there are overcrowded and some must operate on two half days at school in order to provide an education for everyone. As well as teaching, myself and the rest of our group will help with building and renovating their school to enhance the lives of the students there. During this trip, I will also be taking a big step outside of my comfort zone and facing my anxiety as I feel that the reward from doing this volunteering will far out way my own personal fears. While in Zanzibar, I will be immersing myself within a new culture and developing new skills that I will take with me for life. I want to take part in this trip as it is a great opportunity to not only help others not as fortunate as me but also as it is a good enriching life experience. The sense of achievement of helping others I feel will last with me forever and I will always cherish the memories I will gain. In order to raise the funds I need to take part in this amazing opportunity, I will be doing various fundraising events as well as hoping to be sponsored by companies which will then have their company logo on my T-shirt for the trip.
