Support Leyda's Family After Tragic Hit and Run

<div>Gabrielle “Gabbie” Nganga was a very bright, friendly, and courageous student of mine and today, on March 7th, Gabbie lost her life after an unexpected illness. Gabbie was a junior and had already started to make plans for her future. She loved Disney so much and would talk about her dream to work there as an Imagineer to design roller coasters, but Gabbie also admired her mother and dreamed of following in her footsteps to work in the medical field and help others. Gabbie was involved in her school and was a part of the fundraising committee in the Black Student Union (BSU) Club since the 9th grade where she used her awesome spirit to bring awareness to others.

<div>Gabbie’s mother has spent the last several days by her side as Gabbie fought for her life, praying for Gabbie’s return to good health and normalcy in her life. Gabbie’s father stopped working and traveled across the country to be by her side in her last moments. Losing a child brings on a pain that is unimaginable and everlasting. Having to deal with the financial costs that come with death should be the last concern or worry that her parents should have to deal with. Gabbie was not just my student, she was a student to many of us. Gabbie was a friend. Gabbie was a part of our community. I have created this GoFundMe to provide support for her family during a tremendously difficult time. Dear Friends and Community Members,<br /><br />Every so often, if you’re lucky, you get to meet someone who is truly selfless and devotes their time to being of service to others. Huan “Papa” Chu is such a person, and now he needs our help. At the end of 2020, Papa Chu was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer that has metastasized to the brain. We can make a difference in the Chu family's lives and support a man who generously shares his time, friendship, and expertise with others. We have started a GoFundMe to help Papa Chu and his family with the numerous, unforeseeable expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis. We know that the Coronavirus has hit everyone in different and challenging ways, and times are tough for many. A monetary contribution in any amount, words of encouragement, and prayers would be so very appreciated and will make a real difference for the family.  <br /><br /><br />Papa Chu has been a tremendous influence in all of the lives he has encountered. For years, he voluntarily designed and built sets for the drama department at Nobel Middle School. He created magical worlds with few resources and taught us all the power of imagination paired with a can-do attitude. Papa Chu Gave So Much; It's Our Turn To Give Back.

This is David McAtee. Also known as “Yaya” &amp; the “BBQ man”.<br /><br />David McAtee was killed this morning in Louisville, Kentucky. <br /><br />He was a black restaurant owner in the community who was fatally shot by authorities around midnight on June 1st. As of 10:45 AM, his body was still lying in the streets. <br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/48462156_1591054540202314_r.jpeg" alt="48462156_1591054540202314_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br />The National Guard had been deployed in Kentucky surrounding the protests, yet McAtee's death occurred at 26th and Broadway.... far far away from any of the protesting.  <br /><br />Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear had called on law enforcement to release the body cam footage of the shooting... but of course, their body cams were turned OFF. We should be absolutely horrified by this man's death and also by the fact that his body was left in the street for 12 hours after the shooting. <br /><br />There is no goal to reach and there is no dollar amount that will ever equal David's life, so this campaign will do everything in its power to secure as many relief funds as possible for the McAtee family. His mother also lost a daughter earlier this year.  <br /><br />As well as doing anything you can to donate to black-led organizations focused on ending police brutality, I urge you to give what you can to this cause. <br /><br /><br /><strong>FAQ: <br /></strong><br />Who are you? Arlene Aquino is a Community Heroine!  She has been a Nurse for over 20 years.  Even though, she is a single mom and the primary breadwinner, she has faithfully showed up to work during this pandemic, putting the needs of her patients before her own.<br />Since Saturday, May 2nd, she has been hospitalized due to contracting the COVID 19 virus.  She is currently in ICU, sedated and on a ventilator.  <br />She has two children, one in college and the other in middle school.  Arlene is also an only child and her elderly parents live with her.  <br />Right now, the last thing her family should be worried about is how to pay for daily household expenses and that is why we are asking for your help.<br />First and foremost, we are asking for Prayers for her healing and for the family to be at peace during this time.<br />If you are able to donate, that would be greatly appreciated.  Every little bit helps.  Also, please share this post with others.  May God bless you and your family.

I am excited to announce that I have been selected to compete in the National American Miss Pageant as a California State finalist during July 5th thru 8th weekend in Anaheim CA.The organization is dedicated to celebrating America’s greatness and encouraging its future leaders.   We are judged on formal wear, personal introduction, interview, and the community service project (all contestants will bring school supplies to the state finals and decide where they will be distributed).   The pageant also has five optional contests – talent, photogenic, casual wear modeling, spokesmodel, and actress.  My plan is to enter a number of optional contests.  This will allow me to showcase my strengths; as well as give me a platform to grow and improve in areas where needed.  Other women who I admire (Oprah, Beyonce, and Halle Berry) have competed in pageants in the past.In addition to trophies, prizes, scholarships, cash, and awards, the pageant will help us gain self- confidence, communication and interviewing skills, and allow us to practice speaking in front of a live audience. All wonderful ways to prepare myself for whatever my future holds.I’m looking for sponsors to help cover the cost of entry fees, optional contests, outfits (formal wear – casual wear modeling – interview), along with other misc fees we will incur.This means a lot to me because it is a new experience.  I plan to broaden my talents and hope to learn great useful skills from this.  I’d love to have your support in this journey.
