<div>Gus is a German Shepherd that we rescued at 9 months old and now 5 years on, we are inseparable. He is a massive part of our family.

<div>On Saturday 6/12/25, out of nowhere he became very ill and we almost lost him.
</div>

<div>He collapsed and his health deteriorated  quickly.
</div>

<div>He has picked up a virus/toxin (from contaminated river water) that is attacking his kidneys and since then has had all tests, checks and procedures to figure out what is going on + receiving 24/7 treatment to keep him hydrated and alive.

<div>Between 3 vet stays and treatment this has cost us over $10,000 and the bills keep coming.
</div>

<div>I'm not usually the type of person to ask for help (and usually the first person to offer it) but I need help. We need help.

<div>Nothing crazy, just something to keep a roof over our heads while we pay these vet bills and give our beautiful boy Gus the best chance of recovery.

Help with Gus's medical bills

<div>Many of you know that last month Dahbe had to be rushed into a life saving emergency surgery for a ruptured adrenal mass.  And while Dahbe has insurance that has helped to pay some of the bills, Jess still has over $6000 in unpaid bills, and those bills continue to rack up as Dahbe continues to heal.  Jess has helped so many of us with our own dogs, I’m hoping we can all give back a little and help mitigate some of those bills as they continue to add up.

<div>6 weeks ago, after what was a normal day at work, Dahbe suddenly went pale and needed emergency surgery for a ruptured mass that I had no idea she had. No one could tell where it was coming from at first, but the early concern was hemangiosarcoma. City by the Sea stabilized her, and we rushed her to Red Bank ER. After more imaging, we learned the mass was on her adrenal gland, not spleen, not hermangio, and I was given the choice no one wants: say goodbye, or do a very risky surgery to remove it and stop the bleeding.

<div>We chose surgery because we all agreed Dahbe wasnt ready, if anyone had a fighting chance it was her.

<div>Surgery was complicated. They were able to remove the mass and stop the bleeding, but they also had to take one of her kidneys to save her life. So two organs removed. She fought in the hospital for a week, needing two blood transfusions and facing new issues every single day. But she kept fighting. And when she finally came home, the first thing she did was drag me to her sister Fayra—confirming all id hoped for the day i decided to bring her into our family. Me and Fay were both lost without her. Some close friends who were there every step of the way made sure i was not in this alone, and to be honest im not sure i would have survived this without them. They know exactly who they are, and i am so grateful for you ❤️

<div>The first week home felt hopeful, but her recheck bloodwork showed her remaining kidney was struggling. We’ve been doing fluids, changing her diet, and watching her levels closely. Until last week each bloodwork was worse then the last and i could not breathe, not that thats changed much. How can she make it through this surgery with a considerable fatality rate, and then lose the battle to a kidney failure? We’re in the waiting period now—hoping her kidney stabilizes so we can move forward. Oncology and internal medicine both agreed that right now the priority is protecting that kidney. The mass was malignant, its a rare cancer, and not a ton of research on treatment and prognosis, and there is a small lung nodule so they believe its spread, even though its uncommon, but we can’t even consider treatment until her kidney is healthier. We finally saw small improvement in her bloodwork last week, and ive been waiting without breathing for this weeks results - they’ve IMPROVED. Not a ton, but a step in the right direction and I’ll take it.

<div>This has been the biggest emotional roller coaster I’ve ever been on. The support from everyone has meant more than I can express. Everyday ive been faced with new decisions and Im basing them off of knowing she wasn’t ready to leave us. And she’s proving me right every day—she feels good, she’s 95% herself again, and she’s defying every odd thrown at her. She’s starting post operative rehab, shes back to nosework, and aint nobody told her shes sick. I am so grateful to all the doctors on her team working so hard to save her life and provide me with all the info i needed to make the right choices. Without them, without the technology offered at Red Bank, without Pet Insurance, without the support and help of my primary vet and staff being ridiculously accommodating, Dahbe probably wouldn’t here today.

<div>The bills are piling up, some astronomical, she certainly will have more, but i cant think of anything id rather spend my money on than her, which is no new news to be honest  and id do it all again to save her life and get her back home with us.

<div>We have a long road ahead, but right now all that matters is today. My girl is still here. She’s fighting. Shes happy. We’re taking it slow, but just trying to get her life back to normal. And if this doesnt prove she’s a real life magical dragon, i dont know what will❤️ so please keep fingers crossed for my girl that she continues to be the tough, bad a$$ little hood rat dragon that I’ve always known she was and thank you everyone for all the love and support - it’s completely overwhelming ❤️

Help Jess Cover Dahbe’s Medical Bills

<div>I’ve been procrastinating posting this…. The reason is because when something bad happens, you take steps forward to heal and be optimistic.. But it seems life throws you many more hurdles to overcome..

<div>The paragraphs below were written for the emergency on October 10th, unfortunately two months later (December 11th, 2025) …I found a mass growing inside of her in her mammary area…. I am still shocked. Not even 2 months… she was doing better, then she regressed… My father stepped up again and paid for her biopsy (Refer to pictures $813.56 + $271.50 more) to find out if it is cancer or benign. As they did that… they found another mass in her stomach alongside the one in her mammary area… We are now awaiting results of both. She had to go back to the vet after this surgery as she had one stitch open and had to get restitched. (Refer to pictures) Please pray for us, for her.

<div>As many of you may know, Jewelz had to be rushed into emergency surgery for ovariohysterectomy in the critical care unit at the University of Guelph Ontario Veterinary College. Jewelz is a 11 year old Morkie; Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier.
</div>
<div>On October 10th 2025 (The day before her birthday, She was born 10.11.2014); Thanksgiving weekend, same unfortunate day, I had a scheduled Septorhinoplasty surgery. I woke up to… I’m not really sure what I woke up to… (Refer to Pictures) Within minutes, I looked up the vet hours and called them as I was on my way to my surgery at 7:30 am. On the dot, at 7:30 am is when the Vet opened and I was on the phone with them sending photos through email.
</div>
<div>When I got to the hospital, I handed authority over Jewelz to my father. The Vet knew to call him as I would unfortunately not be available during my surgery. All plans for Thanksgiving were dropped for my family. This was honestly, one of the most traumatic experiences my whole family went through that weekend together.
</div>
<div>My poor father, as soon as he left the hospital he received a phone call from the receptionists informing him to take Jewelz immediately to the Veterinarian. Story made short, at the same time that I underwent surgery, Jewelz went under her own at 10:15 am. Shocked with the matter of life or death, my father was given a choice of whether to have them perform surgery or she would die.
</div>
<div>On that note, she had a chance of also not surviving surgery. My father immediately felt he had no choice but to save her with how much he and my whole family adores her, how she has been my support dog all her life as she’s licked every tear of mine…
</div>
<div>The cost was $4553.10 overall. If anyone can donate anything, it would make things a lot easier on my father this year, let alone the whole family.
</div>
<div>As I was healing, I forgot to take care of myself and dropped everything for Jewelz. Watching my father being stressed during this time while working his job and not sleeping or eating normally really affected everyone in the family as a whole.
</div>
<div>On behalf of my father I set this up, I want to help him as much as I can. If you can donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart, all our hearts. I have a feeling we could be going up to 10 000 with either surgery to remove the masses if they are benign… if it’s not… we may have to look into cancer treatments..
