<div>A sudden windstorm knocked over a tree, bringing down a power line that sparked a fire. Within moments, their home—built with years of sacrifice, hard work, and love—was completely destroyed. <strong>There is nothing left. Just ash.</strong>

<div>It was six years of my dad’s life—every summer, sun up to sun down—pouring everything he had into building and renovating a home for his family.

<div>My dad, Tony, has worked in trades and construction his entire life. He left school early to provide, and he’s never stopped. Often working 16-hour days, doing whatever it takes to “git er done” and give his family a better life.

<div>Sandi, is the heart of our family. She raised three kids on her own before meeting my dad—one of them deaf, another who battled cancer twice. She’s faced more than most, and through it all, she’s remained strong, loving, and full of life. If you know her, you know her laugh—it’s unforgettable.

<div>Right now, she’s recovering from a total knee replacement and preparing for a hip replacement. My dad has been by her side through it all, while still working tirelessly to support them.

<div><strong>In just 15 minutes, they lost:</strong>

<div>* Their dog, Saber, a rescue my dad found and brought home from a job site

<div>* Two vehicles, including my dad’s restored Chevy Fargo—his pride and joy—and his Harley Davidson

</div>
<div>* Family heirlooms, and the remains from our late grandfather and grandmother

</div>
<div>* Passports, documents, and their entire life savings

<div><strong>They’re left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.</strong>

<div>To make things even harder, they were in the process of re-insuring the home and there was no policy in place at the time of the fire.

<div>Right now, they are staying in a motel, trying to process the unimaginable.

<div><strong>And still—my dad says he’s going to rebuild. From the ground up.</strong>

Their Home, Dog & Life Savings Gone In a Fire — Please Help

<div>Hi, my name is Lucy and I live in East Vancouver. I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of Fong Wang, also known as Sora, who was critically injured in the Lapu Lapu festival tragedy. I know Sora because she is my neighbour and lives across the street from me.

<div>Currently, Sora is at VGH in stable condition. She lay unconscious and unidentified for over 48 hours, but, due to the perseverance of her local and international friends, as well as her distinctive tattoo, she was successfully ID'd on April 28th. As of today, Sora remains unconscious in the ICU unit with a brain injury. She has already received surgeries to repair a broken leg and fractured spine and will have a difficult life ahead of her.

<div>Sora is from Taiwan and has been in Vancouver for just over four months on a working holiday visa. She has no family here but is passionate about traveling and experiencing new things. With a cheerful and optimistic personality, Sora is a kind and selfless friend who always gives love generously and helps others through difficult times.

<div>As such, we are raising funds to help bring her cousins from Taiwan to help make medical decisions for her, cover their living expenses while staying in Vancouver to care for Sora, and most importantly, to help Sora navigate a very challenging road to recovery. Her older cousin, Janet, will be arriving in Vancouver and will oversee her medical matters until she returns to Taiwan in 1 week’s time. When there is significant progress and/or Sora regains consciousness, her younger cousin will fly to Vancouver and continue to care and help Sora with all her recovery needs.

<div>In the aftermath of this unthinkable tragedy, Sora's Vancouver friends and neighbours are asking for your help. Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and mean the world to Sora and her loved ones. The donations received will be sent to my account and transferred to Sora’s account once she is conscious. All funds will be used for Sora’s family to travel to Vancouver and care for her. As well as to help Sora navigate her recovery.
