As many of you long time locals know, Carpinteria lost one of its finest this past weekend, Jon Keiser. Jon loved his hometown and was especially proud to have been a CHS Warrior. From cheering on the football team, to coaching, Jon was a true Warrior.

What Jon loved most in the world, though, was being a dad to his two amazing sons, Vance and Colby. From coaching their little league teams to cheering them on in the stands, Jon was their biggest fan.

With the sudden tragic passing of their dad, Vance and Colby are left with the financial burden of bringing their dad back from Texas and honoring him with a memorial service. If you are able to, please help support the boys at their time of need. Anything you can help with will be greatly appreciated.

We will miss you Jon. Though you are gone, Warrior spirit never dies.❤️❤️

Support for Vance and Colby After Jon's Passing

Pedro Rivera was more than just our Assistant Manager at Teddy’s by the Sea; he was a dear friend, a steady presence, and a beloved member of our community since the day we opened eight years ago. For over 40 years, Pedro’s friendship with Juan and his dedication to those around him shaped the spirit of our team. He cared deeply about everyone he worked with, always proud of what we were building together. Outside of work, Pedro was a devoted grandfather to his granddaughter Isabella, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did.

Tragically, Pedro passed away this afternoon in an accident, leaving his family and friends heartbroken. Because of the unexpected nature of his passing, his family was not prepared to cover the costs of funeral and memorial services. This loss is not only shocking, but it has left his loved ones facing difficult decisions during an already painful time.

We are raising funds to help Pedro’s family put him to rest and honor his memory. Your support will go directly toward funeral and memorial expenses, easing the burden on his family as they navigate this loss.

Pedro’s son, Diego Rivera has been designated as the beneficiary of this fundraiser. All funds raised will be transferred to him to be used for expenses on behalf of the family.

Pedro touched so many people at Teddy’s and as a friend, we’re hoping those whom he touched will feel inspired to help. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference and help us celebrate Pedro’s life and legacy.

Most of you know Danielle Bordenave as the powerhouse behind SPARK45, the woman who shows up every day to make others stronger, in body, mind, and spirit. What many don’t know is that Danielle is now facing breast cancer for the second time.

Three years ago, she beat breast cancer on one side. This time, doctors caught it early, DCIS Stage 0, which means it hasn’t spread and is very treatable. The good news: it was found before it invaded. The tough part: it still means surgery, several weeks of radiation, and taking time off from her busy life running SPARK45, physical therapy practice and fitness studio.

As a self-employed small business owner, Danielle doesn’t have paid time off and faces a large medical deductible, along with the challenge of keeping her business running while she heals. This fundraiser will help cover those medical costs, allow her to take time to rest and recover, and also help pay off the debt she’s still carrying from her first battle with breast cancer, a time when she wasn’t willing to ask for help.

If you know Danielle, you know she’s usually the first to lend a hand, volunteer, or cheer someone on and the last to ask for anything in return. She’s a pillar of the Carpinteria community, volunteering for CDog, Lotusland, and local nonprofits, and showing up for anyone who needs support. Through her physical therapy practice, she’s helped countless people heal and regain their strength. Through SPARK45, she’s built more than just a fitness studio, she’s built a family, showing up six days a week to lift up and inspire her clients.

Her kindness and creativity extend far beyond her work. Danielle paints kindness rocks and donates them to cancer survivors and domestic violence organizations, spreading hope and love through her art. She also started the beloved Carp Caterpillar during COVID — a project that brought joy to the entire community and even teaches mahjong classes, bringing people together for laughter and connection.

And, of course, she’s a devoted dog mom to her Labradoodle, Otis, who never leaves her side.

Now it’s our turn to rally around Danielle, the woman who has given so much of herself to others — and give her the support she needs to heal fully and without added financial stress.

Funds raised will help Danielle:

Cover her medical deductible and treatment expenses

Take time off to rest and recover after surgery and radiation

Keep SPARK45 and her physical therapy practice running smoothly

Pay off remaining medical debt from her first breast cancer journey

If you’ve ever taken a SPARK45 class, been cared for by Danielle’s healing hands, played a round of mahjong with her, or simply been touched by her kindness, please consider donating or sharing this campaign.

Let’s come together to give back to the woman who has given so much to Carpinteria.

Scorch Fitness, a staple in the RAD district, was completely destroyed by the recent hurricane. Scorch fitness has been a staple in the AVL community fostering a supportive community for all and making it a mission to give back to the community. Join me, a former teacher at Scorch Fitness, in giving back to this amazing community.

As if the storm wasn’t enough, our owner, Ellen and husband Farrell, had to evacuate Asheville and is traveling to New York while due for Childbirth October 2nd. Many teachers have lost property creating a crisis for housing and other basic needs. More than one have current health related emergencies.

We’ve always strived to empower individuals through fitness, fostering a supportive environment for everyone. Now, with our equipment and infrastructure damaged, we’re unable to serve our members. We aim to rebuild stronger than ever, but have a long road ahead and are unsure of what the future holds.

Your donations will go directly to support our teachers who have been impacted by the hurricane. We hope to rebuild one day, but we are not sure what the future holds. Ellen & Farrell opened a second studio just a few weeks ago, and luckily it survived with minor damage. They plan to reopen when it’s possible to continue the spirit of the Scorch community. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference. Thank you for supporting us as we rise from the ashes.
