First United Methodist Church and Eastmont United Methodist Church in Dayton, OH have joined together to raise funds for the building of housing on church property for victims of domestic violence. Currently in our city, there is no temporary supportive housing (beyond motels) for women, children and pets who are in immediate need of safe and supportive housing. The joint project, namely Shepherd Inn Ohio, is working to build three duplexes on underutilized church property to serve domestic violence organizations who need access to housing for their clients. While the total project cost are in the Phase II of the project, the Phase I is a funding need for soft costs, i.e. architectural fees, engineering fees, soil samples, application fees and for a plan of how a portion of under-utilized church activity space may be incorporated into this space. These soft costs are slowing our progress and limiting our progress on the build.
