In August 2024, a message popped up on my phone that stopped me in my tracks: two rabbits had been found dumped in a rubbish bin in Liverpool. They were discarded like pieces of trash.
I was told one of the bunnies had severe facial swelling, and since I was in the area, I rushed to collect them immediately. What I found was heartbreaking. Josie was in obvious poor health, and her friend Norma’s teeth were visibly overgrown. Josie's incisors were so infected they were wobbly.
We rushed them to an exotics specialist in St Helens for emergency care. CT scans revealed the worst: both had severe dental disease, and Josie had multiple abscesses on her face.
The Survivor
Over the months, Josie underwent multiple intense surgeries to combat her dental problems and abscesses. Tragically, her friend Norma succumbed to her injuries after a life of neglect. But Josie? Josie refused to give up. No matter how intense the surgery, she always got back up fighting.
We are now in 2026, and this August we will be celebrating two years of Josie. This is absolutely incredible because I don't know any other rabbit that could cope with what she has survived.
Josie Today
Josie now only has four teeth left and eats a very restrictive diet (her choice!), but she lives a full life. She spends her days with her much-loved companions, French Toast (Frank) and Barry. She is a favorite of our vet team, known for her grumpy attitude and her amazing tenacity.
She has just had another surgery—the first in a while—and while we know it won't be her last, she is going longer and longer between treatments.
Why We Need Your Help?
Because Josie has such complex needs, we are passionate about providing her with the highest standard of living. We believe her space should be enriched, large, and offer her the opportunity for safe outdoor access.
We urgently need to upgrade Josie’s enclosure to suit her specific health needs.
We have the opportunity to build a specialized environment, but we cannot do it alone. The cost of the new enclosure is £2,250.
This enclosure won't just benefit Josie; it will provide a safe haven for her companions, Frank and Barry, and countless rescue rabbits in the future.
After being thrown away like rubbish, Josie deserves the absolute best. Please help us build her the forever home she fought so hard to reach.
We also have a 10k Vet bill to pay off which is why the gofundme is set to 10k
