In 1998 it was found that I also had a progressive Central Nervous System disorder. These two disabilities (I hate that word) proceeded to cause severe neuropathy in my legs, a vestibular disorder (keeps me from being able to drive), hypertension, severe joint pain. Let's just add in osteoarthritis and Type 2 Diabetes to name a couple of others.

<div>As I've lost the feeling in my legs and my balance has become compromised it was suggested now would be a suitable time to get the Service Dog, I'd been thinking about for so many years. I was referred to a local trainer who helped me identify the type and breed of dog I would need (there are several). The best dogs for me are <strong>Labradoodles</strong>, <strong>Labradors</strong>, <strong>Standard Poodles</strong>, <strong>English Cream Golden Retrievers</strong>. They need to be <strong>65-100 lbs.</strong>, <strong>23-28+ inches tall</strong>, with <strong>low energy</strong> and <strong>mild temperament</strong>. Phew, a lot of variables in this search!<br /><br />

<div>First, I must find and pay for the puppy and then pay for his training. I know this will be a lengthy process but if I don't do it now, I may never again have the ability to follow through on everything.

Janell Wells

Janell’s mom has always been the kind of person who puts others first. She dedicated her life to running a nonprofit that helped families find services for children with special health care needs and mental health challenges. Her kindness and generosity have touched so many lives, and her home has always been open to anyone in need of a meal or a helping hand. Now, she is facing her second battle with cancer, and the effects of chemotherapy and the illness have forced both her and Janell’s father to retire early. Their financial situation is incredibly tight—they don’t have extra money for even small treats, and Janell and her brother often pay for their dinners. On top of that, they are dealing with the stress of co-signed student loans for their granddaughter, which they are now being asked to repay. Despite all the hardships, Janell’s mom remains proud and humble, never asking for help for herself. But Janell wants to do something special for her: her mom has always dreamed of visiting Scotland, and Janell wants to make that dream come true while there is still time. This fundraiser is a way to give back to someone who has given so much to others. The funds raised will help cover the costs of travel and related expenses, allowing Janell’s mom to experience the trip of a lifetime. Janell knows there are many families in need, but she hopes that those who can will help bring a little joy and hope to her mom during this difficult journey.
