Hi! I’m Enrico, a prospective PhD student hoping to help make diagnostic tools more accessible worldwide. Below is a 3-minute video introduction to this campaign, along with more information about the research, the financial challenge behind this opportunity, and the story that led me here. During outbreaks, many communities still depend on diagnostic tools that can be expensive, slow to access, or difficult to deploy locally. This PhD research aims to develop a new approach that could be used directly in resource-limited settings for recognizing emerging viral threats and rapidly developing diagnostics, helping more communities respond faster when time matters most. I recently received a conditional PhD offer in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge to work on this research project and pursue this mission. However, taking up the offer comes with a major financial barrier: the full estimated requirement is around €200,000 over the expected three-year duration of the PhD, and, with no funding secured so far, I currently have no clear way to begin this path. I am currently pursuing funding opportunities in parallel, but the Cambridge offer deadline is approaching on July 31, 2026. This initiative is a first bridge of support toward reducing the financial burden and helping me move closer to taking up the offer while the broader funding situation remains uncertain. At this stage, time already feels short. Any form of support, whether through donations, sharing this campaign, or simply helping it reach more people, could genuinely make a meaningful difference. Thank you so much for being here, and for taking the time to read, share, or give a hand in any way.
