My name is Richard, and I’m a retired Medicare recipient living on a fixed income. Until recently, I had a car that helped me get to my doctors appointments, buy groceries, and stay connected with my family and community. Unfortunately, my car broke down, and the cost to repair it is more than the car is worth. Without reliable transportation, it’s become incredibly difficult to take care of my health and basic needs. I don’t receive food stamps or Medicaid, so having a car is essential for me to maintain my independence and well-being. Not having a car has made me realize how much I relied on it for everyday life. It’s hard to ask others for rides when everyone is busy working and managing their own responsibilities. I miss being able to get out of the house on my own and take care of things without having to depend on anyone else. Having a car again would truly make the world to me—it would give me back my freedom and help me reconnect with my family and community. I am so grateful for anyone who takes the time to read my story and consider supporting me. Hi, my name is Rick. I’m retired and on Medicare. I don’t get any other benefits—no food stamps, no Medicaid, no VA. I live with my sister, and more than half of my money goes towards rent. My car broke down, and it costs $3,000 to fix it, but it’s not worth it. It’s only worth two or three thousand dollars in good condition. So, I need about $4,000 for something that won’t break down to get to medical appointments and to the grocery store, and maybe get out once in a while. Thank you.
