Hi, I'm Mauro. Four months ago my best friend and I rescued a kitten. My friend is her owner, she's a student in London, and this is Olivia, four and a half months old.
This morning Olivia fell from a fourth-floor window.
The vet took X-rays and found a fracture in her femur, her thigh bone. She needs orthopaedic surgery to repair it, and she needs it soon. Because she's still growing, her bones heal fast, which sounds like good news but isn't. If the fracture isn't fixed in the next few weeks it will set in the wrong position and the muscle can scar down around it, leaving her with a permanently deformed, unusable leg and chronic pain. No later surgery could fully undo that.
The surgical quote starts at £5,000. We're not people who have that kind of money, and we've already spent our savings on this morning's emergency visit. She has no insurance, she's only been with us a few months.
Here's exactly what we're raising for:
— £771 for the X-rays and emergency examination, already paid out of our own pockets today
— From £5,000 for the orthopaedic surgery itself
— The remainder for anaesthetic, her hospital stay, pain relief, follow-up X-rays, and the medication and check-ups she'll need in the weeks after the operation
That's why the goal is £7,000. The surgery quote is a starting figure and the final cost depends on what the surgeon finds once they're operating, so we've set the target to cover the realistic total rather than the best case.
Every pound raised goes to Olivia's veterinary care and nothing else. We'll post the vet's written estimate, her X-rays, the receipts, and updates on how she's doing after the operation, so you can see exactly where your money went. If anything is left once she's recovered, it stays set aside for her, a leg injury at this age can need follow-up care later on, and we'd rather be ready for that than have to come back and ask again.
We're also still chasing more affordable quotes, asking about charity assistance, and looking into paying in instalments. If we find a cheaper route to the surgery she needs, we'll update this page and lower the target.
She's four months old. She has her whole life ahead of her and she should get to spend it on four legs. Anything at all helps, and sharing this costs nothing and helps just as much.
Thank you for reading.
