<div>My nephew Robert the III was an amazing person who went through a lot growing up, but always stood tall through it all. Robert was the youngest of three and the oldest of five, leaving behind his mother who loved him deeply, one sister, and six brothers. Just eleven days before he passed, his father died, and Robert was deeply involved in honoring his dad's traditional Ojibwe journey. He helped give his father a traditional cedar bath, dressed him, served as a pallbearer, and assisted in the burial. He was so proud of his dad's services and mentioned that he wanted the same for himself one day.

<div> Tragically, just two days after his father's funeral, Robert passed away. Our family is heartbroken and struggling to fulfill his final wish—to prepare for his journey in the same traditional way as his father. Because his dad was an enrolled member of the Leech Lake Reservation but Robert's blood quantum wasn't high enough for enrollment, the assistance available to us is very minimal. It doesn't cover any of the expenses from the funeral home, leaving us with significant costs during an already difficult time.

<div>My name is Aanakwadikwe, or Winonah, and I am the oldest sister of Niizhoodewii Dawn Denomie. On January 11, 2026, we tragically lost the life of Niizhoodewii. Niizhoodewii was an amazing Ojibwe woman who brought life and happiness wherever she went. Among many things, she loved art, drawing, spontaneous camping trips, and traveling. She was an amazing Ojibwe speaker with passions for Ojibwe language immersion. She also loved environmental studies and had ambitions to weave together a career of indigenous environmental advocacy, Ojibwe language and her artistic talents.

<div>She was loved by so many and we are so very heartbroken by this loss. She is survived by many siblings on both sides of her family but most notably, she was a twin and spent almost every day with her twin, Niizhoodewin denomie, who has lost her second half.

Diego's Last Days

<div>In the early morning hours of Monday, June 20th, Matthew and Tonia Beal suffered a devastating house fire. Matthew awoke first and alerted his family to escape but their son Chad was unable to get out and, sadly, did not survive the fire. Their daughter's Dara, age 20, and Ruby, age 8, were fortunately able to escape the house fire, but all four surviving family members were injured in the process. They were treated and released from Moose Lake Hospital the same morning. They escaped with just the clothes on their backs and one cell phone.

<div>Chad had just finished 8th grade in Moose Lake. He and his family were looking ahead to starting 9th grade the fall. He had a beautiful and brilliant mind. On Father's Day, the day before he passed, he spent the day golfing, boating, swimming and fishing with his family. Chad caught the first fish! Chad will be forever missed by all who knew him.

Supporting the Beal Family Through Tragedy

She is an avid a dancer and a devoted big sister to Hana, who is 7. <br /><br />Orli has completed 7 rounds of chemotherapy and a liver transplant earlier this year, which required them to relocate from their home in Metro D.C. to Boston and back.  Recently Orli needed  lung surgery to remove a small cancerous tumor and  she continues to undergo frequent testing, scans and treatment.  It has been a long road but the Wildman Halpern family has traveled it together and they are optimistic that better days are coming.<br /><br />We have been overwhelmed with an outpouring of people wanting to help ease their burden in any way they can during this difficult time. Our goal is to focus on ways to best support them so that they are able to focus their time on Orli and Hana. To that end, we have created a GoFundMe page to help alleviate the burden of unforeseen, often astronomical, expenses that unfortunately continue to accrue with this type of illness. <br /><br />At a time of extreme uncertainty for the Wildman Halpern family, we're aiming to remove some of the financial stress that we anticipate. Community of Love for Wildman Halpern Family

On Friday, December 18th,  2020, my family received heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear Vanessa Abigail Munoz. Unfortunately, she was involved in a fatal car accident and is no longer with us. Our entire family is devastated and heartbroken by this tragic news. We are left with the memories. She will continue to live in our hearts. Vanessa was loving and caring. She was full of happiness and laughter. She took care of her nephews whom she loved very much. Vanessa was a hard worker, family-oriented, caring, friendly, and loving person. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and much more. She will be missed by many. <br /><br />If anyone who knew Vanessa or shared a friendship or memory with her that would like to help our family in this difficult time would like to help or donate, any donation would be greatly appreciated. <br /><br />To Vanessa: I love you, baby sister. Hello and thank you for visiting our Go Fund Me site!<br /><br />We are raising money for my brother's family. He (Sean) and his wife (Jamie) have four children. Sam, their youngest,  will need to take several trips to Cinncinatti Children's Hospital, as his medical issues are quite complex and he needs the airway specialty that is located there.  Insurance will cover Sam's care, but will not cover several trips of multiple day stays in Ohio or the time away from work. Jamie is unable to work due to Sam's medical issues and Sean no longer has the vacation or sick time to take off of work. Please read my sister's letter below for more details about Sam and his story. <br /><br />Without any previous known complications, upon birth, Sam was immediately rushed to Minneapolis Children’s NICU. He was diagnosed with a rare birth defect and Down Syndrome. They were told he would have surgery and go home in a couple of weeks. Those few weeks turned into over seven​, very bumpy months.<br /><br />At four days old Sam had his first surgery.<br /><br />He was given a feeding tube. Things were<br />going relatively well for Sam until he was about a month and a half old. He was scheduled to have surgery, but unfortunately surgery was cancelled as Sam went into cardiac arrest. It was unclear at the time why this had happened. About three weeks later, it happened again and then less than twenty-four hours he had another cardiac arrest; this time with more than ten minutes of chest compressions. Sam was quickly diagnosed with an even more rare birth defect. As a result, he was given a tracheostomy, a breathing tube. At three months old, Sam was scheduled to have the surgery everyone had been waiting for, since he was born. Everyone thought the surgery would be successful. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. His doctors would need to go with a relatively new and radical surgical process which would leave Sam in a medically induced coma for over a month. Through this series of surgeries, Sam had to lie completely still on his stomach for most of the sedation period. It would take two, sometimes three nurses to move his tiny head from side to side every four hours. If he would even flinch, he would quickly be given more meds. It took Sam almost four months to wean off the many heavy meds he was on. During this time, Sam would endure another cardiac arrest. Most did not think Sam would make it home. One of his doctors said Sam had “certainly impossible odds”. He was said to be “a work of a lot of science and a lot of art too”.<br /><br />Finally, after seven months, Sam was able to go home for the very first time. He has had complication after complication. Sam’s journey is not over yet and there is much missing from this story. Sam is 100 percent dependent on a feeding tube and as of now, there is no timeline to remove his trach, breathing tube. He has endured over forty surgeries with more to come.<br /><br /> Although complicated, Sam is thriving at home (currently healthy) with his family and homecare nurses, while keeping them and medical team on their toes. He’s an incredible boy who continues to bless and win the hearts of many with his infectious smile and captivating personality.<br /><br />Recently, Sam’s doctors decided to refer him to a hospital out of state, as they feel he’s become too complicated for their expertise. This will require them to make several trips back and forth to Cincinnati with their medically complex son. Thankfully, up until this point, insurance has covered most of Sam’s medical expenses. Unfortunately, insurance will not cover their travel costs.<br /><br />Sam has become the hero in our family. We now live by the mottos Sam Strong and Faith over Fear. Faith that God will heal this precious boy. Our goal is to see that Sam has the best medical care possible so he may grow and flourish without medical issues and help cover lost wages as his mom has been out of work since his birth. Dear All,<br /><br />Many of us have been horrified by the stories of immigrant families being torn apart at the border and images of children wrapped in mylar blankets in detention facilities. While the focus from the media earlier this summer helped bring the government’s policies of separating families to a halt, hundreds of children and parents remain in shelters and detention centers throughout the United States. <br /><br />Mara recently travelled as a translator and volunteer to McAllen, Texas, a border town that has gained notoriety for hosting one of the government’s largest immigration detention centers and where hundreds of parents have been separated and continue to be kept apart from their children. She spent several days volunteering at the <a href="http://www.catholiccharitiesrgv.org/Home.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Catholic Charity of the Rio Grande Valley Humanitarian Respite Center</a>, where the authorities drop immigrants they are releasing from detention centers. Each day, more than 100 immigrants, many refugees, filed in and continue to arrive, almost all with children, many with ankle bracelets. They were tired, hungry, in need of a shower, a clean set of clothes, medical supplies and a warm meal. <br /><br />We are organizing a group to travel down to McAllen on August 12th to volunteer for a week and are hoping to raise money to purchase the bare necessities for these families. Any amount helps. The shoes we have been purchasing costs average about $20. $2000 will help us cover the costs of supplying pairs to 100 individuals a day. <br /><br />Your donations will be withdrawn by us and used to purchase clothing, shoes and medical supplies on the ground in Texas at Goodwill, Family Dollar, Old Navy and other outlets. (We are currently looking into getting charitable discounts or donations from these stores as well.) All donations will go directly to these purchases as we will be covering our own travel expenses.<br /><br />While donations directly to the shelter are welcome, we’ve found it is easiest to collect contributions ourselves so that we can respond to the needs of the families that change on a day-to-day basis.  <br /><br />This shelter has received more than 100,000 immigrants since 2014 when a surge of unaccompanied women and children began coming to the US from the Northern Triangle of Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras). Aid for Immigrant Families in Texas

In the early morning of Tuesday February 13th 2018, the home of Sandra Palumbo which she shared with her son Mike, caught fire resulting in the loss of everything. Sandy is an employee of Rutgers University-New Brunswick working for Student Centers and Involvement within Student Affairs. <br /><br />We are hoping to raise enough money to get Sandy and her son Mike back on their feet. Hello friends and family of the Selanders, this page is being set up by good friends of Kristin and Tim Selander. As many of you know, Tim was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma (brain cancer) at the end of last year. <br /><br />The details of Tim's diagnosis, treatment, and current status can be found on his <a href="https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/furioust/journal" target="_blank">Caring Bridge journal</a> that Kristin updates periodically. <br /><br />Like all of you, we love the Selanders so much. It breaks our hearts that they are going through this. They've been so strong, but it's been a really tough year. They've been lifted up by friends and family and are hugely appreciative to receive so much support in the form of meals, child care, and helping with household tasks. Everyday we are amazed by the huge support offered to Kristin and Tim by their wonderful parents and siblings. <br /><br />While it's no surprise that with cancer comes many unexpected expenses, thus far Kristin and Tim have been managing their finances  well and with the pragmatism they've always had. However, with Tim's recent tumor progression and resulting paralysis, he is now wheel chair bound and the Selanders are facing the need to adapt their home and car for his current needs. <br /><br />The financial donations will specifically go to adding chair lifts to two staircases in their home as well as purchasing a wheelchair accessible van. <br /><br />Please do not feel pressured to donate, but we've received many kind texts and Facebook messages from friends looking for ways to help. Marlene Marcelle, wife, sister, and mother of six, after battling stage four cancer for five months passed away on August 2nd. <br /><br />We, the family, are now raising money to pay for the funeral and all expenses relating to ensuring she is laid to rest as best as possible. <br /><br />During this unspeakably difficult time, we're reaching out for the support of family and friends to help us reach this goal and pay for all of the medical bills accumulated during her time in the hospital. <strong>Rainy Goes to College!</strong> <br />As featured <strong><a href="http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/567/whats-going-on-in-there?act=1#play" target="_blank">This American Life</a></strong>, <strong>Rainy</strong> is a very courageous young woman from Brooklyn who survived a five-year long abusive relationship she got into as a 14-year-old. She's now looking to move forward with her life. <br />As is common in teen abusive relationships, <strong>Rainy's</strong> ex-boyfriend wouldn't allow her to go to high school. Since leaving him, <strong>Rainy</strong> has graduated and now lives out of state. She would like to start her next chapter by going to community college to work toward her degree. <br /><br />We are a group of <strong>Rainy</strong> supporters who were very touched by her story and wanted to create a platform for everyone who heard her story to contribute toward her bright future. We reached out to the Radio Rookies program at WNYC and they put us in contact with her. <br /><br /><strong>Rainy</strong> will be the first woman in her family to get a college degree and she is really interested in political science, law, medicine and journalism. She hopes to study abroad in Zambia to experience another culture.
