- Kakala Ofanoa is a promising young Samoan/Tongan basketball player based in Auckland New Zealand Her game is defined by her strength her defensive presence and her ability to compete as a powerful and reliable forward. She has already achieved remarkable milestones for her age showing commitment talent and a deep love for the sport. Kakala represented Tonga on the first ever U15 girls Tongan National Basketball Team making history for her country. She played a major role at the FIBA U15 Womens Oceania Cup 2024 where Tonga earned a bronze medal and secured a place in the 2025 U16 Asia Cup. During the tournament she led her team in rebounds and blocks - and ranked among the top players across the entire event. Her standout play earned her a place on the Womens 'All Star 5 Second Team,' a major recognition on the international stage. In Auckland, Kakala continues to grow her game through the Tavake Pasifika basketball program. She has also been named to the Counties Manukau Basketball U18 Girls team list, a big step in her ongoing development. Kakala has now been invited to attend a recruitment camp in Victoria Canada with the University of Victoria Womens Basketball team at a Canadian university. This opportunity opens a real pathway toward scholarships, higher level competition and long term academic success in Canada. It is a chance she has earned through hard work discipline and determination. The challenge is that Kakala and her family do not have the financial resources to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, meals and essential expenses without support she risks missing the chance to take this important step in both her athletic and academic journey. This GoFundMe aims to support Kakala now and to begin building a larger pathway for young athletes from under resourced Pacific Island communities who dream of pursuing sport and education in Canada. Kakala would be the first athlete in this pipeline showing what is possible and helping open doors for future players who face similar financial barriers. Your support will directly fund the cost of Kakalas trip including airfare accommodation, local travel meals and basic needs. Every contribution makes a real difference not just for Kakala, but for the athletes who will follow the path she is helping create. Thank you for supporting Kakala for believing in her future and for helping build a pathway of opportunity that can change lives far beyond this single moment.
