She has a long road ahead of her for recovery but she’s awake now. She will still be in Colorado for a bit so any help and prayers are very appreciated. Thanks to all of you for your support.

<div><strong><br />UPDATE APRIL 3rd, 2022</strong><br />A little update on Jessica. She had some complications with her surgery. She is in the ICU. We are asking for thoughts and prayers. Any donations will go towards her medical bills that are coming from her stay in the hospital and to help cover the cost of her household bills.

<div>She has battled with Gastroparesis since 2010 and it has become severe now and surgery is the only option. Gastroparesis is a condition that affects the normal spontaneous movement of the muscles (motility) in your stomach. Ordinarily, strong muscular contractions propel food through your digestive tract. But if you have gastroparesis, your stomach's motility is slowed down or doesn't work at all, preventing your stomach from emptying properly. Her surgery will hopefully drastically change her life for the good.

<div>The problem is, she will be out of work for at least 7 days if not more, and then return on light duty. Beings that she is single and only has her income, being off work for anytime kills her bank account. She is worried she will not be able to make her house payment or feed her Cats and Dogs – dogs on special diet. Any money donated will go to medical costs and her daily bills so that she does not lose her home or have utilities cut off. Also with Surgery, her meals will be mostly liquid for quite a while and she needs help getting protein shakes to live off of for future.

<div>Chris Tomlinson is a burn survivor who is also a single father of two teenage girls. In the last seven years, the three have been displaced and traveled up and down the east coast seeking shelter. During this time, Chris has desperately searched for a job but has not been successful due largely to society's view of his disability. In February 2022, this family finally found housing through section 8. Chris currently supports himself and two children with $800 a month, or $400 after the cost of housing.<br /><br />The money from this fundraiser will go to Chris Tomlinson to be used for basic necessities for his family; including shelter, food, and bills. <div><strong>The Disbursement of Funds</strong>

<div>Since Chris is on SSI income of $800 a month, the disbursement of funds will look a little bit different than the typical SBSK fundraiser where the person just receives the lump sum. It is USA law that any person receiving SSI cannot have assets totaling more than $2000. I find this law abhorrent, but that is a conversation for another time. Fortunately their exists something called an ABLE account, which allows for an annual contribution of $16,000 without hurting a person's SSI eligibility. Simply put, this allows us to fundraise for Chris and his children without putting them at risk of losing their benefits. <div>This means that the first $16,000 raised will be contributed instantly to Chris' ABLE account. Any amount after that will have to wait to January 1, 2023 to be added. For example, if the total of this fundraiser is $30,000, we can add $16,000 to his account instantly and the other $14,000 the first of 2023. 100% of these funds will be added to Chris' ABLE account over time.

Help for a Burn Surviving Single Dad

Cathy Partyka  was a Nursing Supervisor at Hamilton Grove Healthcare and Rehabilitation, who treated every resident, nurse and aide with love, kindness and compassion. She truly was a "Superhero-in-Scrubs" who bettered the life and brightened the days of everyone she came in contact with. Over the past year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cathy was on the frontlines providing care and being a shining beacon of light for our most vulnerable population. <br /><br />Most importantly, Cathy was a beloved mom and grandmother and her passing leaves her 5 children and 4 grandchildren with a gaping hole in their lives and ache in their hearts.<br /><br />This fundraiser is being set up by the nursing staff  who worked alongside Cathy for the past 6 years. We were all deeply saddened to learn of her sudden heart attack and passing and we are using this platform to help with the family's funeral fund as well as any other incurred expenses.<br /><br />This angel was there for us in times of need and now is our chance to be there for her incredible family in their time of need.
