We've spent countless birthdays, Easters, Thanksgivings, and holidays at their place, and it was always filled with the smell of fresh baked pies, the sounds of kids playing, and the feeling that you were home and part of their family.

<div>The Pazminos dedicated their lives to serving the community and spent nearly the last thirty years owning and operating a senior facility for underprivileged families and had recently transitioned their business into some rental properties in Altadena.

His love of animals is legendary, and the Barrio was home to our pets who were as welcome as any paying patron. For all of us, Chris created a family atmosphere at the bar. The Barrio was a place everyone felt at home, and his many loyal regulars can attest to the hospitality they have enjoyed here for so many years.

We've lost a community treasure

<div><strong>We are three Portland-based Palestinians - Mohammed, Mahmoud, and Zandi —urgently gathering community support for our families who are enduring dire conditions in Gaza.</strong> Currently, our family members face displacement, destroyed homes, and the fatal reality of living under constant bombardment and unimaginable violence, with no safe haven for over 3 months. The escalating dangers and amounting medical needs left our families with no choice but to leave for Egypt. However, in Egypt they face restricted movement, no ability to return home, no work permits, and no access to official financial aid. The decision to leave their homes and extended families was extremely difficult, as their hearts remain in Gaza.

<div>Through our collective efforts, we successfully evacuated Mohammed’s immediate family members to Egypt. We hope that Mahmoud and Zandi’s families will soon follow. The astronomical resources required for their relocation, housing, medical care, and survival needs have prompted us to reach out to our extended community for support.

<div>A few days ago, Mohammed’s immediate family were able to make the dangerous journey into Egypt.  At the beginning of December, Mohammed’s family became internally displaced in Gaza after multiple days of bombing in their neighborhood followed by leaflets from the Israeli Occupation Forces ordering them to leave or face death. They fled to a makeshift shelter made out of curtains and curtain rods near the Gaza/Egyptian border with no access to basic needs such as beds, bathrooms, and hygiene products. This is the second displacement Mohammed’s family has experienced, the first occurred during The Nakba (The Catastrophe), when they were forced out of their homes in Yaffa and Ramla in 1948. At this moment, it is unclear if Mohammed’s family home still exists since it is still too dangerous to return. Mohammed’s family includes 11 people- his father, his wife, five siblings, their partners and their children (Mohammed's nieces and nephews, including Nama who is only 6 months old). Mohammed’s family members have multiple medical conditions and their medications run out at the end of December.  <strong>We need immediate support for their access to shelter, food, immediate medical care and daily expenses in an unfamiliar country. </strong>

<div>Mahmoud’s immediate family of 21 people include his father, older brother and wife with two children, a younger brother, and three sisters with their respective families. During the second week of the assault in Gaza, Mahmoud’s family was displaced from their homes which were destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. The life and memories that his family built and created were destroyed in an instant. His family has lost everything. They were left with no shelter, and just the clothes on their back. Mahmoud’s dad and four of his nephews and nieces were sheltering in the city of Khan Yonis when they were impacted by the insidious inhalation of white phosphorus, causing severe symptoms and unbearable breathing difficulties. <strong>Currently, they are in critical condition and in need of urgent medical care upon entering Egypt.</strong>

<div>Zandi’s 10 relatives: her aunt, two cousins, their wives, and children were forced to flee due to fatal Israeli air strikes on the Jabalia Refugee Camp in Northern Gaza. There, they lost their father, four siblings and their children, amounting to 19 family members martyred. They have no homes or belongings to return to. In 1967, Zandi’s father along with his mother and four siblings were forced to flee Gaza due to the Six Day War. Like many Palestinians in exile, the current violence in Gaza has resurfaced the reality and violence of 75 years of occupation. Zandi is a first generation Palestinian American and grew up in Portland, OR. Due to the ongoing Israeli occupation and 15 year siege on Gaza, Zandi never had the opportunity to visit and see her homeland, nor the chance to meet her dear relatives. <strong>Her remaining relatives are in Rafah attempting to shelter in unlivable conditions. </strong>

<div>Due to the lack of formal support systems for displaced Palestinians, these funds will be used to support all survival needs of our 42 family members. The conservative estimate needed for each person is over $10,000. These include basic needs, housing, legal fees, visa applications, relocation support, travel costs, and medical support. The funds will have daily and long term impacts on our families’ lives. This comprehensive assistance ensures not just survival, but the opportunity for individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and security.

<div>Over the summer, our beloved Brenda was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The good news is that her doctors have been able to successfully remove the cancer. However, the surgery, follow-up care, and pain management are very costly, and Brenda does not have adequate health insurance to support these expenses. Additionally, the treatment and recovery has required Brenda to miss quite a bit of work, so she’s also dealing with an impact to her income. This has been a scary time – facing a serious health crisis – and the financial burden makes the ordeal a lot more stressful.

<div>If you know Brenda at all, you know that she’s one of the most giving people in the universe. For our family, Brenda has been more than a nanny — she has been an important member of our family and community. She provides selfless care to children <em>and</em> their parents, bringing an endless well of warmth, love, and patience to nurture the people around her. She’s been a stable presence at times in our lives when stability has been crucial. We are all lucky to know her and be loved by her. And her community of devoted friends and family, near and far, shows how much she is loved.

Brenda’s Cancer Journey

<div>Idolized by his little sister Zoe, adored by friends, loved by extended family, and spoiled with affection from his mama, Allie, and dada, Chris. Miles enjoys learning weird animal facts, collecting “perfect rocks,” wearing mismatched pajamas, singing the Paw Patrol theme song, and identifying every character from the Cars movies. He talks in his sleep about things like wanting a croissant, jumping like a frog, or meeting a Ferrari.

<div>Miles is exceptionally bright, communicative, curious, thoughtful, and silly. He’s also irritable, stubborn, and impatient — he’s 3 after all.
</div>

<div>And he has big feelings because he’s facing big, scary things.

<div>After more than a year of revolving daycare illness, Miles’ recurring gastrointestinal symptoms suddenly weren’t subsiding as they should. His appetite decreased, he could no longer sleep through the night, screamed in pain while going to the bathroom, and lost interest in the things he usually loved. He begged to understand what was happening to him and why he wasn’t feeling better.

<div>Endless doctor appointments, feeding therapy, and specialist visits didn’t seem to provide any obvious answers. His medical team was working hard to prioritize his needs and narrow down a diagnosis.
</div>

<div>Just when his health took a turn for the worse this February, Miles’ mom was laid off unexpectedly.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With little notice before insurance would expire at the end of the month, Allie and Chris were left scrambling to ensure that Miles’ medical preauthorization approvals would not lapse. It wasn’t any insurance they needed, they needed that specific coverage for just a few more weeks to avoid a delay in care.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Allie requested an extension of employment status to avoid interruption of Miles’ treatment. The request was denied.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>His situation had been manageable from home, but the insurance interruption delayed access to continued, urgent care. While his parents awaited enrollment in Chris’ insurance and new preauthorization approvals, Miles’ health deteriorated rapidly.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The result was traumatic and avoidable. Miles was admitted through the ER and hospitalized for 7 days.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He's been poked with dozens of needles, is receiving nearly all of his nourishment through an NG feeding tube, and has endured multiple scary tests and exams; he’s been under full anesthesia for an hours-long MRI/MRE and 2 colonoscopy/endoscopy procedures. After the second scope showed little improvement, his care plan quickly evolved. An infusion treatment series was scheduled and the first appointment lasted nearly 9 hours.

<div>This is more challenge than any 3 year-old should ever experience.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Through it all, Miles has shown unbelievable strength and bravery. Still, once joyful sleep talk turned dark. He would wake in a terrified panic, completely drenched in sweat — screaming and crying with painful memories of his hospital stay.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While they remain hopeful and optimistic for the future, the family is understandably broken. The emotional toll of it all is immeasurable. Worse, we will never know the psychological and physical pain Miles has felt.
</div>

<div>Imagine parenting two young children, constant doctor appointments, navigating battles with insurance, test results with no answers, losing your job, unexpected hospital stays, and having to find a new source of income to pay for this nightmare.

Help Maarquii Transition

Hi everyone,<br /><br />We are here trying to raise some funds for my fam Indigo and Fenix. They were traveling from Oregon to see family when unfortunately Indigo’s water broke during the trip at 27 weeks due to Preterm Premature Rupture of Membrane (PPROM). Because of the severity of the pregnancy complication they are unable to leave the hospital where she is being carefully monitored. They are stuck in LA for the next 2 - 5 months to ensure their seed has a safe arrival into this world. <br /><br /><br />Indigo and Fenix are a beautiful black couple from Portland, Oregon who farms and teaches as their main source of income which has already been gravely impacted this past year by the COVID pandemic. Since they are unable to leave LA at the moment they are without any source of income until they can get back home.<br /><br />We are hoping to come together to raise funds for them for the next couple of months to help them through the remainder of their pregnancy until they are back at home safely. They stole a camera/ &amp; computer that was full of all of pictures and videos. A lot of them were taken at the protests &amp; a lot of them were of his family members who have passed. The computer was $600 &amp; my camera was $1300 &amp; a new window is about $200 so about $2000-$2200 altogether. I put it to 2,500 because I could tell he was super hesitant to ask for even that. Please please help him recover from a really bad situation.

Help Black Creative Recover From A Robery

A LOT of you know Kurt Hayashi. He is a devoted Dad, a loving husband, an awesome brother, a favorite uncle, and a true friend. Kurt sadly suffered from a stroke last night and is currently in the ICU. He is stable but he has a brain bleed and the right side of his body is not functioning. They say it can take up to 6 months to get him moving again. Kurt is a Self-employed passionate Photographer/videographer who has partnered with incredible teams like Nike, The Oregon Blazers, Brooks and so many others who have had the privilege to work with him. Kurt has also been the sole provider for his family, Wife-Jill and 2 kiddos, Lily and Jude. With that, he didn't have insurance on himself and with this unfortunate accident, Kurt's wife and kids are left with a hospital tab that is adding up quickly and no money coming in for that tab or even monthly bills. This is causing Kurt additional stress on the entire situation, I believe we can help love on him and his family by supporting the Hayashi's with financial help. It may just be money to you but to them its a lifeline.  I know Kurt is a proud man and has always taken care of his family, let's do right by him and continue to help his family.
