My name is Katherine, and I'm the grandmother to a 10-year-old little girl named Lily. Lily and I live in Hurst, Texas. On September 10 of this year, Lily's and my life changed forever.
My sister and I had just taken on roles as Lily's official guardians. Lily's mom was no longer able to care for her, and my son had passed away in 2023. On that day, we were taking Lily to school when my sister had a massive stroke, ran a stop sign, and a truck T-boned us on the passenger side. I was the passenger. Sadly, my sister did not survive the stroke, and I will forever miss her. I sustained many injuries, the worst of which was a broken neck and several brain bleeds, broken ribs, etc. Lily had a fractured pelvis. It was, needless to say, the second worst day of my life and another traumatic one for poor Lily.
I spent a long time in the hospital and then a long time in rehab, and Lily was bounced around until I was out. We had to move towns and homes, and Lily had to change schools. The things Lily has had to endure are impossible for her 10-year-old self to process. She will have continuous therapy for grief and trauma.
Any help would be much appreciated.
