<div>Hello, friends and family of our friend Shari, (known to many of you as ‘Jenny and the Bets’). I am writing this on her behalf, because as you can imagine, she is not one to easily ask for help. Shari is someone who has always braved storms on her own, but there are some things in life that undeniably require help from loved ones and community, and this is no doubt a dire situation.

<div>Shari has been battling unthinkable health issues over the past 2+ years, and Canadian healthcare has truly failed our friend. To put it bluntly, she is dying, wasting away, and without medical help outside of Canada, we do not know what the next year looks like.
</div>

</div>
<div>Shari has been diagnosed and misdiagnosed over and over, and has been subjected to several unnecessary surgeries, including the removal of several organs in an attempt to guess what might be causing her the debilitating pain she has been living with. However, even after many surgeries, they have yet to offer a proper diagnosis and/or solution. Currently the pain leaves her with the inability to eat most days (resulting in drastic and dangerous weight loss), sit, bend, twist or move without excruciating pain. Her quality of life is nearly intolerable, but if you know our girl, you know that she continues to put on a brave face and make us all laugh.

<div>Shari also struggles with Lupus and at the start of this hellish journey, the doctors wanted to blame all of her symptoms on her Lupus. They found though, that her Lupus inflammation numbers had actually never been better. When they hit a wall with incorrect Lupus assumptions, she was told it is a ‘woman’s issue’, so she scheduled an appointment to see a gynecologist. After waiting months to be seen, she was told that she was only there because she ‘didn’t have a penis’, and offered no solution to her growing pain. Doctors doubted the severity of the situation, and even blamed her pain on mental health issues (after removing organs from her, mind you), which couldn’t have been further from the truth. They then diagnosed her with MS, which was a devastating blow, however at least it offered some potential answers. Only for them to retract the diagnosis once again. To say this medical mystery has been frustrating for our girl, would be an epic understatement.

<div>She went from being a powerlifter, holding a high-level union position, a full time job, playing sports, being outdoors with her dog Alfie, socializing with friends, dating, and being a human living an active human life, to being bed-ridden and only able to make it through each day with the help of nerve-blockers, heavy narcotics and Twitter.

<div>Her pain has consistently been in her right ribcage. It is so tight and constricted, that it is crushing her insides. She has been looking in the US and Europe for additional and alternative medical care and scouring online forums to try to find people who may be experiencing anything similar.
</div>

<div>There is a Doctor in the states who might be able to help her, a much needed glimmer of hope that at the very least a proper diagnosis could be made. And even more-so, a course of actionable treatment that actually would help not only her quality of life, but to also save her life. This might include a surgery that would cost upwards of $50,000, not including travel, recovery time and lost wages from nor working. Shari was able to get an appointment for February 2025, but is also on a cancellation list to hopefully get in sooner. She, her many therapists and most recently her Nerve Specialist suspects that this could be slipped rib syndrome and anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome, and if they are correct, this doctor could not only diagnose her properly, but hopefully begin the repair and rehabilitation process.

<div>This is where we come in, friends. The out-of-country travel, surgery and care is not cheap, but well worth it if it will help her recover. She would willingly trade any of her worldly possessions for her life back. She has spent $20k of her savings on physical therapies, massage therapies, alternative therapies, and travelling for medical care. She has been forced to be on disability for the past 2 years as her health has rapidly declined, spending up to 20 hours a day in bed. Every donation truly can help our girl get to the US, and to get her life back. This community we have here is truly something special in times like this, and I know we can come together to get Shari on the road to recovery. Please consider donating–any amount helps. <div>Hi everyone. On Wednesday, February 21st my uncle, Jimmy Miranda, had a stroke. My Aunt, Kimberly King, rushed him to the emergency room and at the time he had lost the ability to swallow and was completely paralyzed on his right side. He had emergency surgery where they removed a section of his skull to relieve pressure, cleaned up the pooled blood and put the portion of skull back. His brain has shown significant brainwaves after the procedure. Today, he has been able to breathe on his own without ventilator, but is still paralyzed on his right side. We're still waiting for him to wake up to see what rehabilitation he will need and if he regains feeling on his right side.

<div>Jimmy and Kim own and operate their own business, but are unable to work right now and do not have health insurance. Jimmy is likely to be out of commission up to 6 months, and there are several medical bills they need help with. <div>Raven has successfully undergone anterior cervical discectomy fusion surgery! After an intense, procedure three days ago, Raven is now recovering at home after two recovery days in the hospital, she is on a liquid diet and having trouble swallowing (dysphasia which was anticipated) and re-learning how to walk.

<div>We’re friends with Raven (and we’re so lucky for that!). For those of you who don’t Raven, she’s currently in school working towards becoming a doctor and has spent her entire life caring for people and pets – and now it’s time for us to help her!

<div>This month, Raven will have to undergo ACDF surgery to alleviate the debilitating pain she's lived with for years. This condition has made it difficult to use her left arm and hand, causing weakness and tremors thus impacting her ability to live a normal and productive life. This surgery has a high success rate and we hope it will alleviate her unbearable pain and help her avoid possible paralysis – but Raven will have a very difficult, long recovery ahead of her.

<div>This anterior cervical disc fusion surgery involves opening the neck from the front, pushing the oesophagus, carotid and jugular arteries to the side, shaving the bone that is crushing the nerves, and removing 3 discs from her spine that are compressing her spinal cord. The discs will be replaced with either cadaver bone or metal spacers, leaving her in a cervical collar for a months-long healing process that will leave her unable to work.

<div>Over the last couple of years, she’s undergone multiple surgeries, therapies, and injections to help mitigate the damage and heal. The bulged discs are impinging on her spinal cord which now results in a constant tremor in her hands and numbness in the left hand. Unfortunately, the disease has progressed and will continue to do so, possibly leading to paralysis. A multi-level ACDF is the only option.

<div>She is unsure of how long It will take to recover, she was told it takes about a year for the bones to fully fuse. She will be in a cervical collar and unable to eat solid food, with the possibility of a feeding tube (from the oesophagus being moved during the surgery.) She and all we hope to heal fast and get back to work, finish school and become a doctor and live a life free of pain, which has seemed impossible and unattainable to her for years.

<div>-She has an autoimmune disease called Lupus, which makes it hard for her body to

<div>distinguish its own cells from foreign pathogens. Meaning— her body attacks itself.

<div>-Because of her diagnosed Lupus, she has developed Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD) which means the discs in her spinal column are systemically deteriorating and radiculopathy (which is injury/damage to the nerve roots.)
</div>

</div>
<div>-Over the last couple of years she has had to undergo multiple surgeries, therapies and injections to help mitigate the damage and try to heal
</div>

<div>-She now has 3 bulged discs (C5-C6-C7)

<div>-Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal column where her spinal cord lays) which greatly affects her balance. It’s progressively getting worse and can lead to paralysis

<div>-Bilateral Foraminal narrowing (where the root nerves that control your extremities come out of)

<div>-The foraminal narrowing has cut off complete circulation to her exiting root nerves and now she experiences numbness in the left hand and intermittently left arm. It will eventually get worse and become permanent if not operated on

<div>Sadly, even with health insurance and what little family are able help with, money will still play a persistent and looming role in Raven's recovery. Once she recovers from her surgery she won’t be able to return to the work full-time because the fusion takes at least a full year to take hold so she will still be too fragile to perform this very physical job. Her out-of-pocket expenses have been huge and will only continue to grow without consistent income.

<div>Raven is a person who always jumps at the chance to help others, frequently volunteers in food kitchens during the holidays or raises funds for friends during their own medical emergencies. Now she is the one who needs help, and we don't want to let her down.

<div>Currently working as an autopsy technician, Raven has pulled herself up by her proverbial bootstraps from some very low points in life, to become an amazing young person with a very promising future in the medical field. She has a challenging journey ahead of her; We want to relieve her financial burden so she can focus on her recovery.

Little Wheels Big Hearts 2022

Yesterday evening, Josh was in a terrible car accident. He was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a broken arm, neck, brain bleed and facial lacerations. He just moved to Texas and was supposed to start a new job Friday. For right now, that will be put on hold.
