He always shows up happy to work.” The family relies on Nicolás’ income to make ends meet. Margarita and children are now left in fear and heartache as they navigate life without him and this tragedy. Their 2 daughters have stepped up to play a vital role in supporting their mother and younger brother. Paloma*, age 16, aspires to one day become an immigration lawyer to help dismantle the injustices that have ravaged her family and the community. Elías*, age 6, is trying to be brave amidst his fears, comforting his mother when she cries over the situation.
