Damaris and her husband came to the U.S. from Guatemala to seek a better life, leaving behind two children they hoped to support. This January, they welcomed Xiomara into their family. In February, Damaris’ husband, Ivan, was arrested and deported while working to support the family in Georgia. Damaris is struggling to support herself and Xiomara with Ivan’s help. After having Xiomara, she has been unable to find work that allows her the flexibility to care for her daughter, and the family is in desperate need of formula, diapers, and medical care, as neither Damaris nor Xiomara have had any check ups since the birth. Damaris must now rely on this community to help care for Xioamara. (Español abajo) Eva and her two children are in need of community support after Edwin, a devoted father and partner of over ten years,was detained in October 2025. Edwin was on his way to work as a painter when he was stopped at the Georgia Avenue metro alongside his friend. Both men were detained, and Edwin was not able to contact Eva until three days later. Eva tried to get a lawyer for Edwin but he was deported to El Salvador in November after losing nearly 20 pounds while in a detention center. Now, Eva is caring for their two children alone: a daughter, 11, and a son, 6, who is autistic and has special dietary and support needs. Eva works as much as she can cleaning houses, but she can only work 2-3 days because she has to pick her children up from school and care for her son. He is only able to eat a limited variety of foods and needs extra supervision due to his autism. Since his father was taken, he has been eating and sleeping very little, and Eva has not been getting enough sleep as a result. She has started experiencing physical side effects from the stress, anxiety, and grief of losing Edwin and caring for her children alone. Her church is very small and was only able to help her a little the first month after Edwin was detained, and the food she receives once a month from her children' s school does not last the family long. Eva is doing her best to keep her children happy and healthy, taking them on trips to the park and the mall, and trying to make sure her son has the right food to eat, but she deserves more support from our community. Elizabeth, her 16yo daughter (also Elizabeth), and her 16mo granddaughter need your help! This 3-generation family lost their primary breadwinner, Nahun--grandfather and father of this family--to ICE on February 27, 2026, as he was on his way to his work site. He was held in detention in Baltimore with only instant soup to eat, then transferred to a warehouse in Georgia. Elizabeth, the grandmother, doesn't drive and pays for transportation to her part-time job as a server; she is also the primary caregiver for her young granddaughter. The 16yo daughter is in 10th grade. Elizabeth and Nahun had just signed an apartment lease 8 days before his kidnapping. They have lived and worked in the US for 12 years and have no home in El Salvador, their country of origin. The grandfather faces an impossible decision: to return to El Salvador without savings or home, or pay thousands in government-mandated fees and attorneys' fees (amount TBD) for the possibility that the family can stay together in the US. This family is in immediate need of funds to pay rent, back-owed utilities, food, transportation, babysitting, and attorneys' fees.
