What they care about

I normally am trying to raise money for animals in need, not ask for it. I now have to stop that and focus on my small cell lung cancer and my family.

Well, I’ve been gone for some time. I was in the hospital from September 28 to October 8, 2026, dealing with a hard-to-cure case of pneumonia. Part of that time was spent in Brighton, and the rest in Ann Arbor. Since leaving the hospital, I am now on a low amount of oxygen and am pretty weak in my legs, making it difficult to ambulate without help. Once I was home, we applied to see if I would qualify for a clinical trial at Henry Ford Hospital. Unfortunately, the doctor there had the worst bedside manner I have ever experienced in Oncology; basically, I didn't qualify because I am not healthy enough (I have to be off oxygen and independent with my care). Her nurse called after my second visit to deliver the news after we had jumped through all of their hoops. However, we had a follow-up with my regular oncologist this past Friday, and he was so apologetic for what I had to deal with, especially since he was the one who referred me. We are now back on the hunt for other clinical trials or looking into palliative care, which means a lot of research ahead. We cannot thank you enough for the love and support you continue to show us. I try to share updates whenever I can because I want people to know what is happening. — Karen and Kevin
Today marked the end of my radiation treatment, and my vision is already starting to improve. According to my doctor, I should continue seeing progress over the next few weeks. I resume my infusions on Monday—thankfully having missed only a single treatment—so I'll be easing my body back into that routine. Oddly enough, I'm looking forward to getting back to a sense of normalcy, or as close to normal as this journey gets. Monday is also a big day for Kevin as he returns to work. He's really looking forward to getting back to his LETS family and seeing many of his regular riders again. We are both so grateful to everyone for the continued thoughts and well-wishes. While this has been a scary time for us, treatments have advanced so much over the years, giving us a lot of hope. Thank you all for your love and support, Karen and Kevin
First off there are a few doners that I am having major issues getting thank you' s sent out too because if the go Fund Me Program. Trust me you are never forgotten or overlooked. You have all helped and continue to help in so many ways. For many you will never grasp this and for those who have stood where we stand I am so sorry. Thing's seem stable right now. Still have the blurry vision but only up close. Have worked on getting the house Karen proof. I have 2 kinds of walkers, a shower chair, bath grips, and a Kevin who follows me everywhere lol. Feels like I have 4 sets of dogs eyes at 1x. Sucks I have to go bald again really wanted a purple dye job, maybe in another 3-6 months we shall see. Never wait 60yrs to make a simple choice people, longer harder ones take your time. Discuss life and what you need/want from it. Nightly wisdom of Karen or not lol.
