Help Ryan Talocka and his family in his fight against cancer
94% complete- We are Jaret & Candice Ring, and we have asked Dan & Lorna Talocka if we can help them to ease some of their burden with this fundraiser. Their son, Ryan, was diagnosed with cancer almost two years ago. The stress, hardship, pain, and emotional roller coaster they've gone through is indescribable. Ryan was diagnosed with a rare cancer called ASPS (Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma) on May 29th, 2024. ASPS is one of the rarest sarcomas. Soft tissue sarcomas make up 1% of all cancers, and ASPS makes up only 0.2% - 1% of all the soft tissue sarcomas. The cancer was discovered as Stage 4, having spread from his thigh to his knee, lungs, spine, and brain. He has been limited to a wheelchair for mobility since September 2024 because of the tumour in his knee as well as seizures brought on by the cancer. He underwent radiation to his knee, thigh, spine, and brain from July 2024 - March 2025. After delays due to the brain tumours, immunotherapy began on May 1st, 2025. Results looked promising early on. Over the past 2 years, Ryan has been hospitalized 4 times for multiple weeks each time, because of pneumonia and other complications. Ryan fought hard with each hospital stay. Now, unfortunately, due to setbacks with side effects, his cancer treatment is no longer effective. Dan, Lorna, & Ryan have spent most of the last 20 months living in Winnipeg so that Ryan could be closer to his doctors and the care that he needs. The family feels that it's time to come home and be comfortable at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Of course, through all of this, Dan & Lorna have had the hardship of reduced work and loss of income. Dan is self-employed and has been Ryan's primary caregiver, with no option of EI or any other income stream for almost 2 years. Many have offered help and they've never felt comfortable accepting it. I've asked them to please accept help and they agreed that now is the time. Any funds collected will help to cover past and ongoing medical expenses as well as help to relieve the cost of living away from home for so long. Dan has been a lifelong friend of our family and has helped us on many occassions. He's always been there for us and his generosity is limitless. Now I'm asking our friends, Dan & Lorna's friends and Ryan's friends, to please be generous. If donating is not an option, that's ok! Please share this fundraiser so that others might be able to donate. Any words of encouragement for Ryan, Dan, & Lorna are also greatly appreciated. I thank you all for your compassion and kind thoughts for Ryan and the Talocka's.
