 SouthWest RailCams is a family-owned network dedicated to bringing live railroad action to railfans across the United States and around the world.

 One of our most popular locations is our Kingman, Arizona RailCam. Kingman is a special location for railfans, with trains passing through the historic railroad corridor throughout the day and night. Thousands of viewers have enjoyed watching the action from this camera, many of whom may never have the opportunity to visit Kingman themselves.
</div>
<div>

 Unfortunately, the network equipment supporting the Kingman RailCam is getting old and has recently begun causing problems.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 We are currently working with the ISP and the City to determine exactly where the problem is occurring. At this time, there are several possibilities, including an aging PoE switch, an older wireless access point, and the Netgear R6900v2 router that has been serving the camera system for years.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 We are also working with the City to see if we can connect our system directly to the router using Ethernet. A hardwired connection would eliminate the wireless connection as a possible source of the problem and could greatly improve the reliability of the RailCam.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 If a hardwired connection is not possible, we plan to replace the aging wireless access point and hopefully have the museum upgrade its router as well.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 The museum has been a great partner in helping make the Kingman RailCam possible. However, we understand that their budget is very limited. Since the museum originally provided the internet service and router for the cameras, we are looking at ways that SouthWest RailCams and our railfan community can help with the cost of replacing the aging equipment.
</div>

 For now, we have had to make some temporary changes to keep the PTZ camera operating as smoothly as possible. The PTZ has been reduced to 1.5 Mbps, and the West camera has temporarily been shut down to reduce the load on the network.
</div>

 Our goal is not simply to get the camera working again. We want to replace the aging equipment with reliable, modern hardware so the Kingman RailCam can continue operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for years to come.
</div>

 <br>
</div>

 Donations will help SouthWest RailCams purchase the networking equipment needed to stabilize and improve the Kingman system. This may include a new router, wireless access point, PoE switch, Ethernet equipment, installation costs, and other necessary networking hardware.

 SouthWest RailCams provides our RailCams free to the railfan community. We do not charge viewers to watch our cameras, and our goal has always been to make live railroad views available to everyone.

<div>I haven't posted an update in a little while, so, well, here we are.

<div>Physically, I'm doing great all things considered. The wound from my surgery is healing very well according to the doctor, although I still have more healing to do. I'm hoping February will bring news that the initial phase of my recovery is complete, and I can hopefully then move on to the next steps of getting to my "new normal" (yes I know, I cringe just using that term too). I won't be able to do the same kind of work I was doing before I got sick, but hopefully I can find something suitable once I am officially able to work again, which is likely still several months away.
</div>

<div>I want to again say a special thanks to everyone who donated to my fundraiser. It really helped us through holidays, allowing us to get the kids some nice gifts, and allowed us to cover some of the initial bills from my illness. We are forever grateful! We set a goal and you all came through.

<div>Unfortunately, while I'm doing great physically, the financial assistance we've been waiting for while we're scraping by on Christina's income is still being held up by red tape and "processing", and it is likely to be still several weeks away. If I'm being honest, I've hesitated posting anything about it because we reached the goal, and I don't want my friends and extended family to think I'm just trying to get money from them (our immediate family knows our situation and has helped with absolutely everything they can).

The host location will be a private business in downtown New Albany, IN. There will be individual feeds for each railroad along with an area-wide feed covering all railroads. Louisville Metro Railroad Radio Feed Install

<div>As many of you remember, I went through a very severe illness / injury in late 2023 that lasted well into 2024. What I didn't disclose to anyone but a select few was just how bad things actually were. To be blunt, in order to save my leg from the infection, they had to amputate the forward part of my right foot, leaving me with basically 2/3 of a right foot, meaning I have to wear a special prosthetic insert in my right shoe to walk semi-normally. It does also allow me to drive, although I've had to adjust how I work pedals because the insert doesn't have much weight to it, as it's basically there to help me with my balance. Needless to say, even with the insert, I still have some issues with balance and walking, although it's obviously better than without it. But, because of this, it's really not possible for me to work a regular, full time factory or warehouse job like I used to, and I'm now on permanent disability. Christina works full time, but obviously with only one person be able to work full time, our financial position has suffered greatly, particularly in this economy over the last year or so. I do get disability pay, but it's monthly and only goes so far with three kids. Back then, my friends and family here very graciously helped us greatly by contributing to a fundraiser that helped us cover our expenses and medical bills, which was a massive help to us.

<div>As I stated in a previous post, we recently moved in with family in my wife's hometown of Reading in an attempt to save money, but some work needed to be done to move in to help with that, and combined with moving costs, it exhausted our savings, but we figured once we got moved in, we could quickly rebuild that with the cost savings we would have.
</div>

</div>
<div>Enter the vehicle situation. We've been operating with two vehicles that are both from the late 90's, but fully owned and paid off, for the last couple of years. Another cost savings attempt. It had honestly gone fairly well, that is until one of them developed a major problem that would cost more than it was worth to fix. That put us down to one. Not really a big deal when it happened, because I don't work regularly with my disability, so I could get everyone where they needed to go. And, we knew we were moving soon, so we figured once the move was completed and we started rebuilding our savings, we could get another car. Easy-peasy, right? Welp, no. The other car got us through the move, then the transmission decided it was through. Literally the day after. I guess it held on just long enough. Again, cost is going to be beyond what the car is worth to fix.

<div>So over the last few days since I posted about that, we've been trying to find an option, because Christina has to get to work, kids need to be taken places, etc. Family has been able to help get us around temporarily, but that's not going to work long term. Looking at what's available out there right now, it is definitely looking like our best option is to finance something newer and more reliable that will last, but as of now, we can't without a down payment, which will take us awhile to come up with, time we presently don't have. Even if we decide to go the "beater" route, we'd likely need at least Two Grand to get something fairly reliable. With our current pay rates, that's gonna be a little bit.
</div>

<div>This is the part where I'm feeling really humbled, because I really hate asking for help. I seriously always try to solve every problem on my own if I can, because I feel like that's my job as a husband and a father. But right now, options are practically non-existent, and I've hit every brick wall I have found in trying to come up with a solution. But they're just not coming, and we have to be able to get around. Even our fledgling photography business we've tried to get rolling can't get anywhere without wheels. So I'm asking for help. I know how rough it is out there, but it you have a couple of dollars to spare, we would be eternally grateful. I absolutely hate having to do one of these again, but with our situation presently, I don't know what else to do. All I ask is that if you can help, please do. If you can't, I completely understand.

<div>This GoFundMe historically was for the purchase of equipment and to maintain a network of ATCS railroad radio codeline servers across portions of Appalachia, but as the railroads have heavily transitioned to CTC over ITCnet (220MHz system shared by PTC) the availability of ATCS-covered areas is diminishing, and a resurgence in radio feeds has begun to fill the gap that was once covered by ATCS.

SWRC Radio-feeds & ATCS NMRX General Fund

<div>This fundraiser is to purchase equipment and pay for installation of a webcam and ATCS server in Sedalia, Missouri. The webcam will be hosted across the street from the Sedalia Amtrak depot, looking toward the East. This will give an excellent view of approaching traffic as the majority of trains are westbound through this location. The cover photo gives an idea of the angle the webcam will provide. A scanner radio will be included in the budget to hear the UP dispatcher talking to nearby trains, as well as the defect detector at MP 190.3 Also, ATCS equipment will be installed at the same host location with the possibility of monitoring up to six control points.
