Hi, there. My name is Vanesa Argueta and I'm from New York. I'm currently fundraising on behalf of my dear friend, Ahmed Altaban and his family (of 8) trapped in Gaza. They live in a town at the center of Gaza Strip and have been in great danger since October 2023. Your help would mean the absolute world to me and this family. Please, allow me to kindly introduce them to you.

There are eight members of the family: Heba (the mother), Amjad (the father), their sons Ahmed, Khaled, Soliman, and Abdallah, their young daughter Lamar, and Ahmed (the grandfather).

The siblings were all pursuing engineering, design, or completing grade school.

Lamar in particular aspires to be a doctor some day.

If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page with others or engaging with our social media content (@thealtabans on Instagram). Any amount (even $5) is highly appreciated and will bring Ahmed and his family closer to safety as soon as possible.

Follow this family's page on Instagram for more updates and ways to support them. Thank you so, so much for all of your support!

"Hi, I'm Ahmed Altaban. I'm 22 years old and aspire to become a Biomedical Engineer but my university studies were interrupted due to the war in the Gaza Strip. I am from Deir al Balah which is located right in the middle of Gaza. It has taken me some time to gather my thoughts and courage to write this, but the urgency to save my future, my life, and the lives of my family is stronger than any hesitation.

I am making a sincere appeal, and I strongly ask for your generous support to help us leave Gaza and survive... The situation in this city has become catastrophic, as we face difficult conditions represented by a lack of food, medicine, water, in addition to the spread of diseases and epidemics.

Because of the devastating war that destroyed everything, including my home, dreams, ambitions, and other things, we are exposed to danger and death several times throughout the day as we cannot move freely and go anywhere. Because of that, we hope that people of conscience will support us. We sincerely ask for your help, share our story, and hope that your compassion will guide us on this difficult journey. Any amount that you could donate would make an incredible impact on our survival. Thank you so much for your help.

Save Ahmed and His Family in Gaza

*UPDATE MESSAGE* 7/30/2024- Thank you all for your continued support as we pursue justice for Sonya Massey. Your contributions have been instrumental in our fight and will help us all heal after this tragedy. The work is far from over though, and we hope that you will continue to say Sonya’s name and keep her legacy alive!

This is the official GoFundMe established in Sonya Massey’s honor to help provide Sonya’s family with financial support during this difficult time.

On July 6, 2024, 36-year-old Sonya Massey was taken away from her family. Officers responded to Sonya’s 911 call for a prowler in her backyard, and shortly thereafter shot her in the face and killed her after she said, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus." In mere moments, Sonya’s family lost a mother, a daughter and sister.

Sonya is remembered as caring and loving mother to her two children, a 17-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter. Sonya loved cooking, doing hair, nurturing her children, and spending time with her family. She was also a devoted church member.

The outpouring of love and support has been tremendous, but our family needs financial support as we fight for justice. Our family will likely need mental health counseling and support, money for travel costs and money for household support as we miss work to pursue justice for Sonya Massey.

This GoFundMe was started by me, James Wilburn, the father of Sonya Massey, and Raymond Massey, the brother of Sonya’s mother, Donna Massey.

Justice for Sonya Massey

Hi, I’m Gretchen and I’m writing here on behalf of my dear friend Shy Custis. For over a decade Shy has been battling treatment-resistant depression along with a still-developing list of autoimmune disorders including Hashimoto’s, AGHD, and several unknown conditions for which she’s still undergoing testing. Expensive and inadequate insurance coverage and years of failed treatments, testing, and medication costs — including a crushing $900 dollars a month for her AGHD meds, which due to price alone she’s spent as much time off as on — have taken a toll and left Shy with over $6000 in medical debt. In addition, her beloved cat Padou has been diagnosed with mammary tumors which must be surgically removed as soon as possible to prevent metastization.

Shy has been an incredibly generous and loving friend to me in the years I’ve known her, never hesitating to give her time, her emotional support, or her beautiful baked goods whenever I’ve had a rough day. She’s a gentle, insightful, and caring woman with astonishing artistic talent, and she’s been unfairly burdened by medical and financial struggle. Our goal is to raise $12k to cover Padou’s surgery, pay off Shy’s medical debt, and provide for her continued testing for Cushing’s syndrome, which has so far been extremely expensive — over $2500 this year alone.

Our medical system is broken, and so I have to ask you, hat in hand, if you’ll please dig deep and help my friend get the care she needs. Please.

Thank you for your time and for your generosity,

Gretchen Felker-Martin

Media plays an important role in shaping the way we understand race and ethnicity as part of our history, our social institutions, and our everyday lives. Moreover, positive black representation on television and film screens plays an important role in the struggle against the anti-black bias we face in this country. For many, viewing self-determination means realizing self-determination.

After decades of asking for a modern black superhero, we finally got what we've asked for! There is no doubt that it is a rare opportunity for young people, especially those who are often marginalized. Help send the over 500 amazing students at Edward T. Steel Elementary School! to see The Black Panther movie.

Steel contacted is UA Main Street 6, which is located on 3720 Main St, Manayunk, PA 19127. The price to rent an entire theater is about $10.28 per person. our goal is to send 100 per day for 5 days.

For more information contact:
Jocelyn Butler
Community Partnerships Coordinator (AmeriCorps VISTA)
Edward T. This is the first time they are releasing a super hero film featuring a majority African American cast and that is phenomenal. Representation is so important and it is imperative that we expose as many young people as we can to this film because they will have the chance to see positive Black images on the screen. They will see us as kings, warriors, and heroes and not thugs and the like. We created this campaign because we would like to take underprivileged youth in Brooklyn, NY and East Orange, NJ to see this film when it is released. Today, going to the movies is an extremely expensive endeavor and they should not have to miss out on this opportunity simply because they don’t have access to the funds. So let’s come together as a community and give our youth this day out to support this incredibly important film “Black Panther”.

Why Brooklyn and East Orange?

First, Pearl is a Brooklynite…born and raised in Flatbush and currently volunteer at a charity called Sierra House which is located in East Orange, NJ. Anthony, who is from Atlanta currently resides in Brooklyn so we are both connected to this area. We just decided to choose areas which we were already connected to and serving.

Plan: We are looking to have private screenings for Brooklyn youths and their chaperones at the UA Court Street Stadium in downtown Brooklyn. The theater for our East Orange children is yet to be determined but we plan to take East Orange youth as well as the transitional residents in the Sierra House. We will be purchasing the group rate tickets directly from the theaters.

We will be taking some students from my old junior high school in East Flatbush Brooklyn I.S. 246 Walt Whitman middle school and plan to make arrangements for other youth organizations in Brooklyn and East Organge who may express their interest in bringing children as well. An inquiry has also been sent to a staff member in another institution for young girls and we are waiting to hear back from them as well. We are still working on the exact details and will keep everyone posted.

Average Cost:

$13.00 – each child

$17.00 – adult chaperon

$10.00 each for refreshments

Your donations will help our young kings and queens know that we came from more, that we are more, and we can be so much more than what mainstream media usually lead us to believe.

About Us:

Anthony Lockett-Larsen – Financial Administrator at NYU

Married father of two young boys...financial administrator at NYU...when he’s not working, you can find Anthony curled up with a good book, singing gospel professionally, in church or spending quality time with his family

Pearl Fields – Consultant at UNICEF, Sierra House Board President, and budding entrepreneur

When not working in administration to support herself she spends her time working on building her business start-up. Currently, that is NubianFlix™ a new streaming service that will feature Independent works from people of the African Diaspora due to launch in beta in March 2018. She is also the current board President of the Sierra House, a charity that assist at risk youth and homeless mothers and their children.

WebSites

www.sierrahouse.org
www.nubianflix.com

For more information please feel free to contact Pearl and Anthony at [email redacted]

Thank you in advance for your support!

Help kids in BK see Black Panther

Hey, guys.

My partner, Haley and I have been living together in Pittsburgh for 2 years now. We have faced nothing but hardship since we moved here and we are finally in a position where we can't see a way out. I absolutely hated to do this and am upset and embarrassed but we will be on the street in 10 days if we can't get another apartment and move before then.

When we first moved here we came from Richmond, VA. Finding and apartment while working the hours we worked was very hard and we latched onto the very first apartment we saw just so we had somewhere to go before we had to sign another year lease in Virginia.

The apartment we got was in an area we just couldn't afford but didn't realize until we were stuck in the lease. The management wasn't great either. The day we were supposed to move in the apartment was so filthy that I had an allergy attack twenty minutes into unlocked the door. If you ran your fingers along the window sills, you came up with a thick layer of dust. Walking through the apartment left your socks/feet black with dirt and the bathroom was a disaster.

We had seen the apartment before moving in when another lady had lived there so we didn't know how dirty it was. We didn't move our stuff in and had to fight with the Landlord several times to get it to finally be clean enough to live in.

We were working our 40 hours a week at Starbucks constantly and having a hard time paying our bills. Haley and I are both type 1 diabetics and we have a lot of medical expenses each month. These range from insulin, to test strips, syringes, lancets, pump supplies, alcohol swabs etc...All things that are life sustaining. We would be in the hospital in a few hours without our insulin.

Another job opportunity opened up for us that paid a lot more. We both applied and got the jobs. This job paid a lot more and had a set schedule. It was a call center job dealing with credit cards. This was fine for the first month, however, both of our mental states while working this job were awful.

We got cursed out on the phone more times than I can count, told to kill ourselves, told we were worthless and all around treated like garbage for thirteen dollars an hour. This made keeping up on bills a lot easier, but it was destroying us mentally.

Then Haley had a few nights where it became too much. It started with a panic attack on the floor at work. Everyone waived me over to her cubicle because she couldn't breathe. It was so bad I ended up h aving to take her home. From then on, Haley couldn't be left alone because she would injure herself. We tried to work similar schedules, often, but that's hard to do. I couldn't be with her all the time.

Eventually, Haley attempted to take her own life. It was so bad she had an ambulance called to take her to a hospital. She spent the night in the hospital but because we were so bogged down with bills she insisted they let her come home so she didn't miss work, which her being an adult, they had to. She hadn't agreed to a full check in.

However, this happened again. The second time it happened she attended Western Psych hospital in Oakland, about ten minutes from our home. She was there for day and then eventually was put into a group therapy session 4 times a week. This was good, except Haley couldn't work that job anymore. She had another panic attack and ended up quitting.

When she quit her mental wellness was so much better, however, she had a lot of trouble finding a new job. So that left me to balance all of our bills, including our $875 rent bill. This caused me an immense amount of stress.

Haley tried very hard to find another job, however, nothing was happening fast enough. Eventually, I too, broke down. I had a horrible night where, on my way home from work, I passed my exit and just kept driving. I don't remember too much of what happened, other than I had gone into a really bad neighborhood, trying to find someone to end my life for me.

This was a sign that I also needed to quit this job. I thought that Haley and I would be able to find new jobs quickly and this was around tax season. I was estimated to get $1000 back from my tax refund. I waited and waited for it, figuring it would cover my rent until we both found and got established at new jobs. Then I got a call from the IRS telling me a mistake was made and I wasn't getting anything. Nothing. Not a dime.

We tried everything to find jobs that paid at least ten dollars an hour and we found nothing.

Eventually, I did go back to a Starbucks. Haley found a job at a salon.

As we got these new jobs, however, we were already massively behind in debt. Our Landlord took us to court and the judge postponed anything for a month to see if we could scrape together money to try and get caught up. Haley and I paid $200 a week to our Landlord but every time we got a little caught up, the 1st of the month showed up and we owed not only our rent but a late fee because we didn't have it all in full on that date. We couldn't get caught up, in fact no matter how much we paid, we only seemed to get further into debt.

We've been paying as much as we can without starving to death or giving up our necessary medical supplies. Once in a while we do something nice for each other or splurge or something stupid for 10 or 20 bucks but that is it.

We have a cat, a hamster, and we are currently watching our friends snake while she is away at basic training for the Air Force. They, too, need a place to live.

We have been hit with an eviction notice that gives us only ten days to find a new place to live because we can't get caught up. Nobody even warned us we have had no time to prepare. My mom lives an hour away in the middle of the woods in Ohio, so there'd be no way I could keep my job or find one that pays as much living with her.

Haley's family lives in Virginia.

My mom filed for bankruptcy or she'd help us out without a doubt but she can't. She hardly gets by on what she had at the moment. My dad and I do not get along and I was physically and emotionally abused by him for most of my life. He's not an option for us at all.

We don't want to do this, we are embarrassed and upset and panicked but I don't see any way out of this hole we are stuck in. I'm crying as I type this, I don't want to have to ask for money its the absolute worst. I'm just at my ropes end.

We do want to leave this area. This city has been nothing but a curse for me every time I've lived here. We just need to not be on the street for the next 6 months to a year.

All we are asking is that you can donate even a dollar to help us pay our deposit and first months rent at a new and much cheaper apartment that we can move into in ten days or less so that we don't end up on the street.

We are looking into options to see if we can get that little amount of time extended but right now it doesn't look good.

There's a much cheaper apartment available for $700 a month nearby and we are trying to do everything we can to get there as soon as possible. The application fee is $45 each for both Haley and I and the security depsoit and first months rent should both be 700.

I have about 600 to my name right now and Haley about 100. We just really need the help. Once again, I hate to ask this...This is such a panicked and horrible situation, but if you can help at all in any way I can't tell you how grateful we would be. Words cannot express. Being diabetic and having the pets we do ...We just have nowhere to go right now without some help.

Eviction: Going to be on the street

Hello, my name is Adriana Gonzalez, and I am trying to help my father heal.

My father lives in Venezuela and he needs treatment for colon cancer. The Venezuelan people are enduring political and economic turmoil, and the elderly and children are the ones that suffer the most. Our family does not have enough funds to cover his expenses and his insurance does not cover this kind of treatment, so, all the costs must be covered out-of-pocket.

The money we raise will help my father to fully recover, and hopefully live longer. We need the funds as soon as possible, as every day that passes his health care bills will increase.

I will be eternally grateful for anyone that could help us with any amount of money since this will mean my father keeps living and his children and grandchildren can enjoy his love and care for years to come.

My dad's treatment

Hi guys, my name is Lee, and I'm both evil overlord and sole minion of Fev Studios ,

I've been illustrating and building replica props and costumes (and original stuff) since 1998. A huge part of it to me is sharing what I learned with the commnity at large via blogs, tutorials, livestreaming, & running panels at conventions.

You can find my work, blogs, tutorials, and other stuff on facebook , flickr , instagram, and youtube , and twitch as well.

After coming out of a holiday season hiatus (tis been a crazy intense past few years and needed a big break!) I sat down to play catch up with my monster list of blog writeups & tutorials, and my hard drive died. Grinding and a thunk broken dead.

Good thing I had a backup!

but it failed too :(

Fortunately this one didn't kill itself, but it needs repair and recovery.

what isn't amongst the last few month's work is left on two malfunctioning drives, and they're both currently in the hands of professional data recovery companies.

Unfortunately, the recovery of the data of these things is hella expensive :(

One is being recovered by a company that I had used before . The cost of recovering that one is 650, along with another 70 for the drive to transfer it to. The data is being transferred now. It has the stuff from before may 2014

The other was the one that had just failed (but didn't grind itself up). It was beyond the company's abilities and would need more work. That one has more recent stuff, everything since may 2014, most of the video footage and tute vid wips, as well as any additions, revisions and new references and discoveries I had found since finishing older projects (I'm a reference packrat). Plus honeymoon photos and other stuff. It cost 1550, along with another 70 dollar drive to transfer data to.

The total came to approx. 2400

(this was the lowest of 4 quotes for the second drive... whoo, but the data is irreplaceable : )

What's on these drives-
-an absurd amount of references, notes, patterns, blueprints, sketches, progress photos, notes for blog writeups and build notes for nearly all of the past projects done.
-wip photos and raw final photographs
-writeups of all of my past costuming projects
-raw video footage of project builds, timelapses, and in progress tutorial projects for painting, sculpting, leather, shophacks (& of course , outtakes).
-all digital art and illustration files, concept arts, etc ever done
-older business & site stuff
-earlier panel presentations for conventions

-works in progress
-website dev stuff
-convention photos
-wedding and engagement photos
-pretty much everything else I ever did with a computer

A good friend of mine suggested I try using gofundme to help, because quite frankly, this is completely beyond my financial abilities. The funding would go straight to the costs of the recovery of the data on the drives.

Here's a small portion of the todo list, and I really hope to get them restored, so I can get back to writing these things up and get that information out there.

Any financial support would be amazing and appreciated, and even if you can't, simply spreading preading the word would be a huge help as well!

Thank you all for taking the time to come here and reading this. :)

Lee "fev" Camara

Fev's data recovery fund

On August 10th, 2012 my family received the devastating news of my brother's passing from suicide. Kevin struggled with depression for much of his life after growing up with our abusive alcoholic father and then spending a good 8 years with the emotionally abusive grandmother. While my small part of the family, my mother Chris, myself and Kevin managed to get out more hardships came.

Kevin suffered through poor friendships, terrible love interests (though a few were angels) and losses from suicide of his own. He tried his best to make his way which included going to computer tech school.

His passion was video games, design and coding. He did well before his addiction to drugs crippled him and his depression crushed his confidence and motivation. My mother Cosigned this loan, to help him along but the schooling was never completed and the loan became a heavy burden on his shoulders as well as the feeling of disappointed.

Then 2012 came and many more pains came with them. He feared coming home though we begged him to and his long term relationship floundered due to her callousness and flippant cruelty. He was heart broken and his depression spiraled.

At 2:00 am in August I received the phone call that destroyed our hearts.

In the aftermath we took in his financial pains as the people left behind. His bill had grown from being unable to pay and when we begged for help from the company (S*llie Mae) they offered no help. I took on half the bill and my mother the other but we both have our own financial responsibilities and for my part I have begun living less than paycheck to paycheck.

We ask for any help at all to get this bill taken care of so my family can move on at least financially so that we might be able to contribute to the charities that sit so close to our hearts now.

As a victim of the same abuse and heartbreak I can understand and accept his choices. We are glad for his peace and now search for our own. Please consider donating!
