I met Bri a few years ago in a bowling league, and we immediately clicked. She is hardworking and cares deeply about those around her -- especially her family! You probably already know the story, but more information on Nathan's condition has been provided below (by the family).

<div>Nathan has been fighting an ongoing battle with his lungs since 2021, when he first discovered he had Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis). It all began after an open thoracotomy surgery to repair a collapsed lung — a surgery that revealed the infection had already taken hold. Despite multiple treatments, the Valley Fever continued to spread, and in May 2024, Nathan underwent a major lobectomy to remove the damaged portion of his lung.

<div>For a while, things seemed stable. But over the last 3 weeks, Nathan’s health has taken a serious turn. He’s been in the emergency room three times and hospitalized twice after suffering several frightening episodes of lung bleeding (hemoptysis). Scans have shown that the Valley Fever infection is still present, and doctors have now found 2 new cavitation lesions on the same side where the lobectomy was performed. There’s also evidence of what’s called a “tree-in-bud” pattern in his lungs, which doctors believe may be contributing to the bleeding.

<div>Nathan is currently hospitalized as doctors prepare for a bronchoscopy to locate the source of the bleeding and determine the next steps for treatment.
</div>

<div><strong>These repeated hospitalizations and procedures have forced both Nathan &amp; Bri to take time away from work, creating a heavy financial burden on top of mounting medical bills. The funds raised will help them cover:</strong>

<div>On Saturday, April 15th, our friend, colleague, and mentor Freddie Mendoza had to say goodbye to his wife, Melissa Ann Mendoza. He lost her unexpectedly to a fatal hemorrhagic stroke. Melissa was described as like a diamond by her closest friends - multi-faceted and a free spirit with a tender heart. She was a true beauty who was full of grace and a determined entrepreneur with a multitude of talents. She was sassy and playfully mischievous like a fluttering firefly. Melissa was a Pilates instructor, a dancer, an artist, and a fearless defender of animals. She was a daughter, a wife, a sister, a niece, a cousin, and a friend to all.

Freddie has been an integral part of many students' jazz education, as he has touched the lives of countless people with his dedication, passion, and talent. <div>Our little warrior, Rennick, is yet again fighting a brain tumor. After seven years of remission, the rug has been pulled out from under us and this latest test is proving to be an entirely new challenge for our family.

<div>After receiving tumor confirmation from a MRI July 21, 2021, we stayed in Dallas for two weeks where Renn completed 10 rounds of photon radiation therapy. He was released to return home to Lubbock Aug. 29 and will undergo home-based physical therapy to recover his ability to walk and use his left arm and hand again while he rebuilds his energy and stamina.

<div>All in this fight together, Justin and I are staying home with Renn to assist him while he recovers and puts in work to be able to return to school and be with his friends - the only thing he continuosly talks about and is determined to do. Like so many others who cancer has robbed, all our warrior wants is to go back to his normal life as he knows it.

<div>We know in these trying times there are countless in need of healing and help, and we certainly don't mean this to seem as if our story is more important than others. This is a chapter we hoped and prayed was there to stay in the past, but it appears we are faced with writing this one to the best of our ability. We're still an average family trying to make it work.

<div>My grandson Jon is a 27 year old music teacher in New Town, North Dakota; he came home for Thanksgiving by train and while traveling back home, someone stole his trumpet and the Macbook he uses for teaching while he was sleeping.  The macbook and trumpet are replaceable but the trumpet is sentimental. It has traveled the world with Jon and was hard earned as a young man by saving money during the summers raising chickens and selling eggs along with many other endeavors to earn money for his own trumpet, it was special.....

<strong>Please Help Me Get Back on My Feet After Trauma/PTSD/MH Crisis.<br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/47276538_1586398476597972_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="47276538_1586398476597972_r.jpeg" /><br /><br /></strong>(Down Below is my extended story for those who are interested.)<br /><br />Those who know me well know that I am independant(previously, to a fault). I am goal driven and passionate. I have been blessed to have worked in a field I loved, where  my students taught me more than I could imagine, and had the privilege to have taught and performed full-time over the past 15-years. <br /><br />I also had the privilege to serve in the Air National Guard band, located just south of Ft. Worth TX.<br /><br />Unfortunately, trauma does not discriminate and has tested my resillancy to the max during this extremely difficult chapter. <br /><br />In short, I have just endured and overcome 2 years of crisis and survival mode due to a domestic violence trigger. Now, I am need of help, through financial support and prayers, with this final leg of getting back on my feet. <br /><br />I am not receiving disability despite trying this past year, and my family has turned their backs to me. Unfortunately, this has caused me However, I have discovered some really amazing friends who are "Rockstars", and who believe in me and have stepped up several times when I was at my lowest.<br /><br />As a result of PTSD and mental health symptoms I was literally homeless for 9-months, spending 4 months living out of my car, in the midst of severe symptoms of Autism and PTSD both of which feed off each other. Through a miracle, divine intervention, and help from HUD in partnership with an organization that helps individuals with disabilities, I finally have a place to call home once again. <br /><br />Through the generosity of friends I was able to keep my lifelong teaching, music, and personal belongings in a storage unit in TX. Now I need help with moving costs from Iowa to KC due to uninvited family complications.<br /><br />Missouri does not have any interim assistance for those applying for disability. <br /><br />I am raising funds to help me get through a couple more months of intensive treatment located in KC with minimal funds to cover basic neccessities for: <br /><br />- Food<br />- Basic groceries for cooking at home and cleaning products after being homeless for 9-months<br />- Personal Hygeine Items<br />- Pharmacy/Medication<br />- Gas to/from daily treatments<br />- A Car Repair<br />- Car Insurance<br />-$1500 for a leg of residential treatment.<br />- $1000 so I can move my belonging into my new empty KC apartment from IA.<br />- Costs to startup working via Rover.com<br /><br />Any amount, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. I am about 4-months from being back on my own two-feet and independent. <br /><br />Thank you for believing in me, praying for me, and helping me through the final part of the turmultueous chapter I am about ready to close. <br /><br />Warmest Regards,<br />Michelle<br /><br /><br />___________________________<br />IN-DEPTH STORY <br /><br />I experienced a domestic violence trauma trigger in Jan. 2018. Despite initial treatment for severe and debilitating mental health symptoms I would not receive proper diagnosis' for another 16 months.<br /><br />Until then it would not be known nor understood that I was experiencing PTSD, exsasperated symptoms of high-function autism, and consequences from triggered heightened symptoms from being on the Bipolar spectrum and being prescribed medication that actually made me worse.<br /><br />On top of disabling symptoms, losing my ability to function and therefore work, my family turned their ears and backs to me.<br /><br />As a result, 16 months after the trauma trigger, misdiagnosis', and no support I entered into homelessness for 9-months.<br /><br />Thanks to a Center for Independent Living in KC and a new partnership with the KC Housing Authority was I able to get off the streets and into a place to call home once again.<br /><br />On top of everything I was fighting my insurance company who refused to send me to residential treatment for MH. If addiction were present than I would have had no problems in accessing treatment.<br /><br />Because if this barrier I reached out and began working with an Ombudsman in TX who agreed I was caught in the middle of a parity law violation.<br /><br />Before they were able to force my insurance to move forward I relocated to KC planning to enter into a program that was trauma focused for women who were homeless, struggle with mental health, and unable to work.<br /><br />Unfortunately, my symptoms were too severe and I was denied admission.<br /><br />Thankfully, with 2020, and the new year, came new health insurance. Thankfully my new policy was more than willing to grant me access to the intensive treatment I needed after 6 inpatient stays the past year. All of which refused to give referrals to residential treatment because of how their policies were written.<br /><br />Hence, At the end of Jan. I admitted to Pasadena Villa in TN were I was for 5 weeks.<br /><br />By week 3 it was clear I wasn't getting the trauma focused care I needed. With my insurance's help I was able to transfer to a program near Springfield, MO, which has been a great fit and far beyond helpful.<br /><br />The facility is small with only 8 women. I have been able to receive individual therapy 5 days/week incorporating Brain-Spotting and EMDR.<br /><br />Once I return to KC, which will be around April 21st, for 6 weeks I will have daily(5x/wk) TMS treatments (in short, a non-invasive treatment that provides magnetic stimulation to specific areas of the brain brain) to help address PTSD and depression.<br /><br />Then, I will be doing therapy 3x's a week for trauma work, on top of a psychiatrist appointment every 2 weeks over those 6 weeks.<br /><br />I will also have OT twice weekly and speech therapy 1-2x/wk.<br /><br />The next 2-3 months will be extremely heavy and busy concerning continued medical treatments.<br /><br />Also, I will be getting connected, once I get back to KC in a week or two, with Vocational Rehab which has a 2-3 month waitlist.<br /><br />To get my DL back I need to pay for car insurance and other fees as it was suspended due to no car insurance due to my inability to work the past 17months while being very sick.<br /><br />With some very excellent treatment just outside of Springfield, MO and finally having an apartment in place I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. <br /><br />Just as when I went through Musician's Dystonia and came out the other end, I know I will  later be thankful for this experience, never want to endure it again, and never wish it upon anyone, and yet find myself lucky I did experience what I have because that greatly shaped the woman I am and the woman I am becoming.

On the evening of April 11, 2015 our dear friend tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident.  We are heartbroken.  Her friends are putting together this go fund me account to help her family with funeral costs and to help with future expenses for her three children.  <br /><br />Aimee was the first to stop and always help others in need.  She was an amazing lady who could make us laugh, make us think and always always valued each and every person in her life.  She touched so many as a talented educator for children with gifted needs.  She had a way of connecting with each of her "kids" and knowing what each of them needed.  She wanted all to embrace being perfect in our imperfections.  <br /><br />We humbly ask you to help our friend and her children just as she has done and would do for any of us.  <br /><br />RIP friend.
