What they care about

I am a medical doctor, based in Stoke-on-Trent, England.

My name is Dr Simon Exton and I am fundraising for Andres Rubio Carmona, a medical student in Dosquebradas Colombia, who has lost everything in the earthquake of 10th August 2026. I first met Andres as an online Spanish tutor when I was recovering from COVID in 2020 and have met him in Colombia since. He is a dedicated, caring man who is passionate about helping others. Dosquebradas is one of the towns closest to the earthquake epicentre and much of it has been destroyed, including Andres' home. He is a 4th year medical student who normally supports himself with online Spanish tutoring, garage work and making peanut butter. The destruction of his apartment lost him everything: furniture, clothes, textbooks, computer, motorbike. He broke one of the bones in his hand escaping from his apartment building before it collapsed. He is currently living out of a tent and, despite all of this, spends his days assisting at his local hospital using his medical skills to help people who have been injured in the earthquake. He urgently needs help to rebuild his life. Every penny raised here will go directly to Andres to help him rebuild his life, finish medical school and ultimately help his community. Please be generous. Thank you.
