<div>Our story began during one of the most chaotic times in recent history—at the start of the COVID pandemic. On March 30th, 2020, Bex gave birth to our daughter, Calliope, and I became a father but because of travel restrictions, I couldn’t be there for her birth or those first precious weeks of her life. I wasn’t able to hold her until May of 2020, when I was finally allowed to travel to the UK.

<div>That moment of holding my daughter for the first time is one I’ll never forget. I knew, no matter what life threw at me, I would do everything in my power to stay connected to her and be present for her.

<div>For a while, Bex and I tried to make things work while I stayed in the UK under a tourist visa, but life didn’t make it easy. We ended up going our separate ways, and during that time, Bex found herself in an abusive relationship and gave birth to her second daughter, Phaedra. During this difficult period, I missed Calliope’s first birthday, and it wasn’t until she turned two years old that I was able to see her again.

<div>But Bex is strong—one of the strongest people I know. She found the courage to leave that relationship, and together, we decided to rebuild what we had. Since then, I’ve traveled to the UK Two or three times a year to be with my girls. I’ve missed enough time already, and I refuse to miss any more than required.

<div><strong>The Challenges We’ve Faced</strong>

<div>In October 2023, I applied for a Parent’s Visa to move to the UK permanently, thinking this would finally be our chance to be together. But my application was denied because I didn’t meet the financial requirements. I had 28 days to appeal, so I informed my manager and flew to the UK, hoping to secure work (an employment offer letter) there to keep my appeal alive.

<div>By the time I returned to the U.S., I was terminated from my job. I was devastated, but I wasn’t going to give up on my daughters.
</div>
<div>This summer, Calliope started school, and I knew how important it was for me to be there to support her during such a big transition. I stayed in the UK from July to October 2024 to help with school runs, bedtime routines, and all the little things that mean the world to a child. <strong>Seeing her face light up every morning reminded me why I need to be there—not just as a visitor, but as her father.</strong>

<div>And then, on July 11th, 2024, something incredible happened. Bex proposed to me in front of our friends in the UK. It was the most joyful, hopeful moment of my life. I said “yes,” knowing that this was the life we’re meant to live—together, raising our girls as a family.

<div><strong>The Financial Hurdles Standing in Our Way</strong>
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, making this dream a reality comes with a heavy financial burden. The visa process is very strict and expensive, meeting the income requirements has been a huge challenge. Only UK-based income counts toward the visa threshold, the UKIV does include any savings above £16,000 (base) + 2.5x (for every £1 shy), this is a strict financial rule that was increased April 2024.

<div><strong>Here’s a breakdown of the costs we need to cover:</strong>

<div>• Flights to the UK: $1,000 each (plus $200 for transportation within the UK - to and from the airport)

<div>Savings Requirements
</div>
<div>Right now, Bex is earning £25,396.8 a year, working in a nursery 40 hrs. a week, leaving us shy of £3,603.20. Using the UKIV formula we need to have a savings of £25,008 an amount that feels impossible for us to achieve alone. I am searching for employment to keep building towards this goal that won't result in sacrificing the little time that I do have with my family. My girls deserve to see me more than 2 weeks out of the year; family is worth fighting for and my Fiancée deserves help raising our daughters.

<div>To qualify for the visa, we need to meet an income threshold. Right now, we need a household income of £29,000 (~$34,500 USD). We can’t meet this requirement, need to show £16,000 (Base) + 2.5x the amount missing from the income requirement.

<div>£16,000 + 2.5(£3,603.20) = £25,008 or $33,870 in savings for 6 Months.
