If you’ve ever met my sweet dog Possum you know she’s the bestest girl ever and my whole world. I adopted her as a puppy. I chose her because she was the runt of the litter and her mother had been abandoned and rescued off the streets of Harlem by an amazing human who took her in and helped her give birth to six beautiful puppies all of which got adopted into great loving homes. A true success story for rescues. Adopt don’t shop.
She grew up healthy and happy and strangers would stop her on the street fawning over her shiny coat and heck she’s just a pretty doggie! . Everyone who met her fell in love, and she became a regular at all the bars and shops in our neighborhood. I took her EVERYWHERE and she was a good tipper too! Before we moved her to Texas from NYC she would get a little liverwurst every day from the guys at the famous McSorelys Ale house on her walks.
Recently, Possum developed a problem with her nail on her one toe that just kept growing funny, causing a lot of pain and limping and that toe just won't heal. We got a few opinions one from her favorite vet and then the head surgeon at another reputable animal hospital. Sadly, both agreed the toe needed to be amputated and the horror is they both agreed it could be cancer. They highly advised a few biopsies to determine if the toe is a cancerous tumor and also some growths in her mouth and tests to determine if it has spread to her heart. Which would be devastating. This news is tough to swallow, and also 3-5 grand and that doesn’t include aftercare but I'm staying positive that the amputation of her little toe will be all she needs to be better and cancer free. I want nothing more than to continue our lives together and celebrate her 10th birthday on June 7th knowing I can get my beloved kid the the best care possible.
Unfortunately, things have been very hard the last few years personally. I have had a lot of set backs and health issues leaving me broke and struggling with no money left to save my sweet baby girl. Possum means everything to me, and I can't imagine a life without her. If you can help at all in these trying times it would mean the world to us. I seriously mean a dollar bill is a step closer to her getting fixed up and back home to heal. No amount is too small. I know everyone is struggling now so I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t for her. Thank you for supporting Possum and giving her a chance to keep on keeping on. She’s so smart and loves going to the vet because she understands that they are trying to take away the pain in her foot. That is the kind of dog she is. A real trooper.
