<div>The NAD Youth Leadership Camp (YLC), established in 1969, is an intensive educational four-week summer program for deaf and hard of hearing high school sophomores and juniors. Campers are referred to as Leaders throughout the program. The camp provides leaders the ability to develop their scholarship, leadership, and citizenship (SLC) qualities outdoors. Leaders experience self-discovery, learn about self-identity, confidence, and self-esteem and understand many things about themselves.

<div>Today, the NAD selects 64 deaf and hard of hearing Leaders from all over the United States. The YLC program is designed to provide deaf high school Leaders with the training and educational opportunities necessary to transition to opportunities in higher education, meaningful employment, and leadership development.

<div>Imagine being told you have a rare cancer that has spread at 39 years old.  That’s the reality Katie is facing right now.  If you know Katie, you know she shows up for everyone.

<div>She shows up for her friends, her family, her work, and her community. She has spent years advocating for the Deaf community through her role as Miss Deaf Texas and by directing year-round wilderness camps for Deaf and hard of hearing youth.

<div>I’m Megan, and I’m writing this on Katie’s behalf because this is one of those moments where community truly matters. I’ve seen firsthand the way people are drawn to her, inspired by her curiosity, her insight, and the way she experiences life so fully.

<div>Katie has been diagnosed with PEcoma, a rare and aggressive kind of sarcoma cancer that originated in her uterus. The diagnosis came suddenly and required an emergency hysterectomy during Christmas. Since then, it’s been confirmed that the cancer has spread, and she is now undergoing intensive treatment.

<div>Like so many facing cancer, there is no clear why.

<div>Katie is facing this with honesty, determination, and a plan. She is pursuing chemotherapy alongside carefully considered lifestyle and integrative care strategies to give her body the strongest possible support. She is also documenting parts of her journey so that others facing cancer can learn from it. If you know her, that won’t surprise you.

<div>What is surprising, and deeply frustrating, is how much of this life-saving care is not fully covered by insurance.
</div>

<div>Katie is facing a significant financial gap. There are essential medications, specialists, and supportive treatments that are either partially covered or not covered at all. One required injection she must receive 24 hours after each chemotherapy cycle costs $6,000 per dose. That expense alone repeats with every round of chemo.

He leaves behind Jenna, whom he was previously married to for 18 years and had four beautiful children: Madison (16), Haley (15), Brady (13), Layla (9), and Michelle, who loved him deeply. Michelle and DJ shared a powerful, genuine love. The last year together was one of the happiest times of his life.

<div>DJ was a loving father, a loyal friend, and someone who made everyone feel seen and welcomed. A true biker and a gentle soul, DJ touched so many lives. He loved the feeling of being in the air and experiencing flight, and anyone who knew him would tell you he was a wizard with tools. Whether fixing bikes, rebuilding engines, or helping someone repair something broken, DJ could fix almost anything. He will be forever loved and missed.

<div>Because his passing was so sudden, there was no life insurance or preparations in place to handle the immediate and significant expenses the family is facing. Some of the debts he leaves behind were co-signed, creating unexpected financial strain during an already overwhelming time. The family is doing everything they can, but they need help to manage the practical responsibilities that come with such a tragic loss.

<div>Samantha Jo Medero was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system.) In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. MS causes loss of body functions and could result in numbness, vision problems, difficulty walking and paralysis.

<div>Samantha Jo’s symptoms started with fatigue and seizures which most recently led to a car accident. At the time, she was unaware that her symptoms were related to a larger diagnosis. Since her diagnosis, the illness has started to take over and take away things that Samantha loves to do. Her career as a teacher at Sign Language Center is one of Samanthas' pride and joy. She is a successful instructor teaching many classes for both adults and children. She has her own IG account and posts awareness videos related to her daughter who is also Deaf and has autism.  Now because of MS, she cannot continue to do the things she loves to do. Her entire right side has shut down on her-she cannot walk, has become blind in one eye and cannot do even simple tasks such as taking her daughter to school or continuing to teach classes over Zoom. Forced to leave her job she has now no income or stability. She is getting weaker by the day, and there is no cure. There is no medication or magical pill for MS.

Sign Language Center FUNDRAISER for Sammy Medero

On May 19th, 2021 Ryan and Heather Osbrink exited our world and left behind their 2 beautiful daughters: Kaylee (18) and Kaitlynn (13). There are no words, but if you are reading this then you can only imagine what may be going through their minds. If their minds are working at any capacity... I can't imagine they can even fathom the future. And at 13 and 18 - there is so much future. I imagine that right now they can't think past the next 5 minutes. Kaylee graduates high school in days and is on the cusp of adulthood. Kaitlynn turned 13 two weeks ago. A brand new teenager. Yesterday her mom took her to be fitted for her first pair of pointe shoes. I imagine she will hold tight to those shoes for the rest of her life. While on one hand their whole lives are ahead of them - on the other - they were shattered in a moment. Only God can rebuild a shattering. It's excruciating to lose parents at any age; it is inconceivable to lose them in one night at 13 and 18. I really wish I had better words but I am at a loss. There has been an outpouring of love from people all around the community who love this family. We wanted to create a space for people to donate when it's hard to even say what is needed at this point. <br />Please pray. Please don't stop. <br />God is on the throne. <br />Our hope is in Him. <br />But some days don't make any sense at all. <br />He is still good. <br />And we will worship Him alone.

We LOST Everything to FIRE.

Cancer is a foe that Brent and Shannon Shiver unfortunately are all too familiar with. They have been battling it in several different strains for over a year. Brent was first diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2019. He fought through two sets of chemotherapies and a couple of surgeries. Despite those valiant efforts, the cancer has spread aggressively and now is at stage 4. <br /><br />Earlier this month, Brent’s doctors informed him that he may have a life expectancy of 6-8 months at the best. Naturally, this news was incredibly difficult for the family to absorb and digest. They are trying their best to maximize the quality of the time Brent has left by being mentally present and cherishing the good moments. <br /><br />If you know Brent- you will know that he does not back down from a fight, has a unique brand of dry humor, gives one hundred percent to anything he sets his mind to, and that he loves Shannon, Jax, and Beckett with all of his heart. He has expressed multiple times that his greatest worry is leaving Shannon and the boys to face life without him. To know that they would be taken care of financially would ease the transition significantly for Brent, as well as give him peace of mind. <br /><br />To attempt to curtail the spread of the cancer, Brent will be starting a trial this week in which he will be receiving doses of a new type of medicine.  We are hopeful that his body will respond well to this treatment. Brent will have to commute from Austin to Houston multiple times as required by the treatment, which will be quite draining and time consuming. <br /><br />To say that the Shiver family has experienced serious challenges affecting their health, financial stability, and home stability would be a colossal understatement. The goal of this fund is to help stabilize the family during their time of need as well as provide funds for meals, babysitters, medical bills, self-care, and so on. <br /><br />It would be amazing if we were able to come together as a community to blanket them with love and kindness they need during this difficult time. Shiver Family Relief Fund

Sadly we all know of Tim's passing. Now more than ever we need to band together so that we can help Charlene make his final arrangements to take Tim home to Louisiana. This will be a great expense. I'd also like to see a bit to help cushion expenses until Charlene can get things figured out, preferably without such a rush to do so in order to allow her to grieve and take in what has just happened. <br />We are so very grateful for all you have done thus far! Final Expenses For Tim & His Family

I'm setting this up to help out our neighbors, Jessica &amp; David.  Their house caught fire last night.    They have 2 kids &amp; they lost a lot of their belongings due to fire &amp; smoke damage.  We really want to help them get back on their feet so any donation whether it's money or clothes or anything would greatly be appreciated.  Their daughter is our daughters best friend &amp; we want to help them in any way possible.  Thank you so much!
