<div>This GoFundMe is to help his family, who are traveling to San Diego in the most painful of circumstances. <strong>These funds will go directly toward covering their stay, funeral arrangements, and memorial services for the many, many people who loved him.</strong> We know there are so many folks who will want to say goodbye. His passing has devastated everyone that knew him — not just his family and friends, but the entire San Diego community. He poured all of himself into his restaurants and the community he created. <div>In November of 2024, Adam went to his doctor for persistent pain in his right knee. What he thought might be a minor issue turned out to be much more serious, a large mass was discovered on the back of his femur — approximately 2” X 4” in size. After numerous tests, a biopsy at the University of Michigan (UM) confirmed the diagnosis: <strong>Parosteal Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.</strong> The early prognosis was low-grade cancer.

<div>On January 30th, Adam underwent an extensive surgery at UM to remove the tumor along with a significant portion of his femur and was replaced with a donor bone. Three days later, <strong>an accident in the hospital caused Adam’s femur to snap in half. This required another major surgery, which set back his recovery.</strong>

<div>Although the pathologist is confident that the entire tumor was successfully removed, it was determined that portion of the tumor was classified as <strong>high-grade</strong>, meaning there’s a small chance that undetectable cancer cells could have entered his bloodstream. To address this risk, <strong>Adam's care team began a rigorous 7+ month chemotherapy regimen</strong> to eliminate any potential remaining cancer cells and guide Adam to a complete recovery.

<div><strong>Adam has been unable to work or operate his business, Cavitt’s Complete Care, since his diagnosis in November. He has not been able to walk on his own since January.</strong> Throughout this journey, Adam’s partner Abigail has been by his side every step of the way.  They spend 10-12 days a month in Ann Arbor going through treatment. Abigail has taken on the role of full-time caregiver. While she considers it a privilege to care for him,<strong> it has significantly impacted their ability to work and maintain financial stability.</strong> With all of the associated expenses including frequent travel and lodging in Ann Arbor, they are navigating the challenges of maintaining financial peace of mind on top of everything else. Adam is currently in his 4th round of chemotherapy of an estimated 14-21 total. As you can imagine, the toll physically, financially and emotionally, has been immense.

<div>If you know Adam at all, you know he’s a beacon of positivity and always with a big smile on his face. Despite all of his challenges, he continues to face each day with strength and hope, thanks to the unwavering support of his family, friends and the community. Adam Cavitt’s Battle Against Bone Cancer

<div>In December 2021, just after having her second beautiful son, Carlie found out she had a large tumor in her liver.  In February she had major surgery to remove half her liver and was subsequently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and deadly cancer affecting the bile ducts with a 9% 5 year survival rate.  After 6 months of preventative chemotherapy she was given the devastating news that it was already back in her liver and had spread to lymph nodes.  She got a port and began a new aggressive chemo and immunotherapy treatment.

<div>This past December Carlie and her husband Tommy went down to MD Anderson in Houston seeking another opinion.  It was there they found out that what multiple doctors had thought were lymph nodes were actually tumors in a different part of her liver.  Her doctors feel she is eligible for a second liver resection which is scheduled for February 17, almost exactly a year from her first surgery and diagnosis.

<div>Though Carlie is feeling very lucky to be a surgical candidate, there are many hurdles ahead.  Assuming her cancer has stayed stable and they are able to proceed with surgery,  this is a huge operation to have to undergo and recover from for a second time after nearly a year on chemo.  There is also still a very high likelihood the cancer will return.  Her doctors are already discussing liver transplant as a potential next move.  She will have to do more chemo, and likely travel back to Texas every 3 months from now on for surveillance scans.

<div>Carlie and Tommy have seen such an outpouring of love and support since her journey began last year, and so many have asked how they can help- contributing even just a few dollars to this GoFundMe is a tangible way to do so.  They will continue to face ongoing medical expenses, associated travel and lodging, childcare, and are trying to fit in the chance to do some traveling and make memories with their young boys as Carlie fights to stay here with her family.

<div>Hey fam— well the twins have made their arrival! We’re excited and happy they’re healthy but they’re 9 weeks early so we’ve got some NICU time ahead of us. I thankfully am cleared from shoulder surgery to go back to work at the start of the year but we definitely have some emergent needs we could use help with. I’m not one to be comfortable doing this but I’m asking our family and friends to help us out in this really blessed but tight time for our house. Funds are going towards helping us with rent, getting a larger vehicle, having bigger meals at home for our older daughters, and some baby equipment we haven’t gotten to purchase yet.
