Support for Our Family After House Fire and Loss

<strong>A.L.S. - Tough Motha Cutter Campaign</strong><br /> <br />Thank you so for taking the time to read this post as you may or may not personally know Mike Cutter, his wife Amy and their sons Stanton (15) and Archer (10). Mike is a much loved, lifelong resident of Norfolk, VA. He has been a close friend to many of you reading this and has been a dear friend to the many of us who have organized and disseminated this GoFundMe campaign. <br /><br />Five years ago, Mike was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a motor neuron disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Many of you are familiar with this horrible affliction, or even know another person who has ALS or has passed away from this disease - one that currently has no cure. ALS causes the death of the neurons that control voluntary muscle movement throughout the body. At some point, short of a miracle, it is fatal to all who contract it. (please go to <a href="https://www.als.org/understanding-als/what-is-als" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://www.als.org/understanding-als/what-is-als" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.als.org/understanding-als/what-is-als</a></a> for more information). <strong>Our collective goal with this campaign is to keep Mike, Amy, Stanton &amp; Archer (and their dog Ranger) in what has truly become their family home - for the long term.</strong><br /><br />If you know Mike and his circumstances, then you have likely observed his life dramatically change in the last few years - particularly in the last 12 months. Mike has reached the point where many everyday functions are no longer possible - such things as eating, getting dressed, climbing the stairs, going to the bathroom, taking a shower, answering the phone, walking outside, and getting into the car. Thanks to his employer, Mike has been able to continue working remotely and should be able to do so for the immediate future. <br /><br />While other options were seriously contemplated, Mike and Amy have decided that it’s best for their family to remain in their home - and the time has come where they need help in turning their home into one that is suitable for someone with his limited mobility. It is the intention of this GoFundMe Campaign to raise at least $150,000 to make some of the necessary additions &amp; renovations to the Cutter home in order to accommodate Mike's disabilities. This will include, but not limited to, modification to home entrances, renovation of a downstairs room into a master bedroom, the addition of a downstairs bathroom with disability fixtures, a motorized wheelchair, a motor vehicle with disability accommodation, and any other ADA modifications.  <br /><br />A born giver, Mike is very hesitant to ask for much in the way of help - so we are doing this for him and his family because we all love him! For a while I lived without great complication due to the slow progression of my form of ALS; I have only in the last year or so felt its increasing debilitating effects. My arms are very weak - I’m no longer able to drive and I usually need help eating and getting dressed - and I am now having trouble with walking. I miss helping others, playing ball with my boys, and walking our dog.  Other than mental anguish I am in no physical pain (unless I fall and bust my head open or break a collar bone - yep that’s happened). I am confounded with my current position, more easily angered and often frustrated; but despite my physical and mental battle each and every day with this beast, I’m still in good spirits and try to laugh at myself while remaining positive, faithful and hopeful. I’m most proud of my family; my 24-year marriage to my wife Amy, and being blessed with our sons Stanton (2005) and Archer (2009). A.L.S. MIKE CUTTER

Drew was airlifted to Norfolk General Hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Kitty Hawk, NC on Friday, May 3rd.  After amazing medical attention, and true Drew spirit, he is now home with his Mom and Dad recovering from significant internal injuries. <br /><br />The recovery journey will be a long one for Drew including a prolonged ICU stay, multiple surgeries, and the necessary rehabilitation for recovery.  Drew is a friend to all who know him and finds himself surrounded by family who loves him fiercely and loyal friends who give him strength and courage.  As Drew is a young and strong 29, let us give what we can to ensure that his mounting medical costs aren't even a pebble on that recovery path.<br /><br />While meals and visits will be helpful in the months to come, right now we are hopeful that we can create and sustain a fund to offset his medical bills. It's that time of year again! Time to Run For Reid, year 5!!! We are back again to raise money for EdMarc Hospice for Children and to honor my beautiful son Reid Hargrave and his memory. Reid passed away 6 years ago from a debilitating disease. He was 3 and half years old. He fought like a champion every day to stay alive, and was an inspiration to all who knew him. His legend has grown year after year, and this year will be the biggest and best year yet! We will be running the Shamrock Half Marathon on Sunday March 17th. Our team has grown from 2 runners at year 1, to over 20 this year! Please help us reach our goal. Below is more information about EdMarc and their amazing organization. <br /><br />More information about Edmarc, Inc. (Edmarc Hospice for Children): The mission of Edmarc Hospice for Children is to ease the trauma of a child's illness or death, and to reduce the disabling effects of pediatric illness, loss, and bereavement on families. Edmarc's health care services allow a child with a life-limiting illness to stay at home whenever possible. Remaining at home helps alleviate some of the child's stress, and can make healthcare for the child less traumatic. But when a child is ill, Edmarc never forgets that the entire family is affected. Families who have a child with a life-limiting illness experience a high level of stress, including emotional, social, spiritual, and financial pressures. This stress often becomes debilitating to the entire family, sometimes resulting in dysfunctional family dynamics, financial hardship, and divorce. To help families cope, Edmarc offers a broad range of services to address not only the physical and emotional needs of the child, but the multi-dimensional needs of the family as well. Our average daily census is 60 families (210 people) receiving home health services and anticipatory grief support and 154 families (539 people) in bereavement care. Edmarc is a non-profit hospice with a voluntary Board of Directors. All health care services are provided in the child's own home and regardless of a family's ability to pay.

Run for Reid Year 5

We are back for year 4 of the Run for Reid. As always, all proceeds go to EdMarc Hospice for children. We will run  in the Shamrock Half Marathon on Sunday March 18th in his memory. Reid Hargrave was a young boy who inspired all that knew him. He suffered from a rare degenerative brain disorder that eventually took his life at three and half years old. Our group of runners honor him each year by raising money for EdMarc Hospice in Portsmouth, VA. EdMarc is an unsung hero in these children’s lives and did wonders for our family when Reid was ill. Please help support this cause in memory of our Reid!!
