Although I do not have my family to support me in New Orleans, I have been blessed with amazing people around me to help push me and encourage me to keep going in the face of challenges.

Deprived for years of family and friends and the ability to establish oneself professionally, the nightmare does not end upon release. With no money, housing, transportation, health services or insurance, and a criminal record that is rarely cleared despite innocence, the punishment lingers long after innocence has been proven. This is a reality that current client Kevin Strickland could soon be facing. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/57540893_1622751067507652_r.jpeg" alt="57540893_1622751067507652_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> For more than 41 years, Kevin Strickland has been incarcerated for a crime he did not commit!  The state of Missouri has robbed him of his youth, his health, and much of his life’s potential. He has largely lost the use of his legs and now uses a wheelchair. All for a crime he did not commit. All while the real perpetrators—to the extent they were prosecuted by the State—have long since been freed. All while there is overwhelming evidence of his innocence. On May 11, 2021, Mr. Strickland’s attorneys, led by the Midwest Innocence Project, filed a Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus with the Supreme Court of Missouri to discharge Strickland from prison based upon illegal confinement and the record before the court.  Even the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney is requesting Mr. Strickland’s exoneration. As of this writing Missouri Governor Mike Parson has been made aware of Mr. Strickland’s case and the overwhelming evidence of his innocence.  At any time now Governor Parson could commute Mr. Strickland’s sentence or issue a pardon.  <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/57540893_1622751128329237_r.jpeg" alt="57540893_1622751128329237_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" />L.R. Strickland (left) and Kevin Strickland (right) But what would Mr. Strickland be released from prison to face?  A world that he does not know much about.  Today he is 61 years old but he was a teenager when he went to prison.  His mother is gone as are many other family members.  He has no work history to speak of.  There is no Missouri statute to compensate a person wrongfully convicted of a crime and later found innocent, unless through DNA, and that is not the case here.  Mr. Strickland needs financial support to care for his basic needs upon his release from prison.  Mr. Strickland has suffered an unimaginable atrocity and no one helped him.  Today, he needs your help. We are confident that Mr. Strickland will be released by the end of this year.  We know he will face many hurdles adjusting to life outside of prison and we hope that we can rally together to help make a difference, to help him after the system failed him. Help Kevin Strickland After Wrongful Conviction

I'm Kati Wilkins, and recently a dear friend from my days living in Sweden reached out to me about a colleague's daughter who has a rare genetic disorder. Beautiful Ayah just turned 1 this January, and needs help getting treatment for her disorder. The family lives next-door in Denmark, and the most effective treatment is currently not approved in her country, so she hopes to bring her daughter here to the US for treatment. The problem is, the treatment she needs is one of the most expensive in the world!  This GoFundMe account is to help Ayah's family raise the funding needed for her treatment and associated travel expenses. Anything you can give helps! We are trying to raise $2.4 million for little Ayah's rare medical condition, so any help you can give will go a long ways. BACKGROUND This is Ayah (born on January 15, 2020), a bubbly little princess who likes to smile a lot. Ayah has a rare genetic and degenerative disorder called SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) type 2. SMA is a rare genetic disease that affects the central nervous system, voluntary skeletal muscle movement, and the peripheral nervous system (the connection between the central nervous system and the rest of the body). As a result, SMA affects basic motor functions such as walking, hand movements and  feeding. After  progression, the patients lose the ability to swallow, breathe and eventually die.   SMA affects one in 10,000 live births and cannot be cured. However, today patients are given treatment options to prevent further progression, as any damage caused by the disease is irreversible. Ayah developed like a normal child by age and achieved the appropriate milestones. After 10 months, Ayah was diagnosed with SMA through genetic testing after we questioned her sudden regress of achieved developmental milestones and minimal use of her legs. Prior to this, we had never heard of SMA. Since the diagnosis, Ayah has been put on Spinraza, a prescription drug administered as a spinal injection throughout a patient’s life. Spinraza increases the ability of the SMN2 gene (which is a back up of the SMN1 gene-the one that Ayah is missing) to produce SMN protein which in turn improves motor functions and survival. Zolgensma is a new one time gene therapy treatment for kids under the age of 2. It REPLACES the missing SMN1 gene with a new, working copy that helps motor neuron cells work properly and survive but it’s currently the most expensive drug in the world at $2.1 million. It is NOT a cure since it does not reverse damage already caused by SMA before treatment. However, with supportive therapy, it has by far shown the best results. It is recommended that the earlier the patient receives the treatment, the better. We are fortunate and grateful to the Danish healthcare system for giving Ayah Spinraza. However as parents, we cannot leave the approval of gene therapy in Denmark to chance and hope that, it will be ready before Ayah turns 2 years old. As any parent, we wish the best for our child, but even more so in regards to her health. Besides Zolgensma only having to be administered once, it has proven to be the most effective in clinical testing. OUR GOAL The goal is to raise enough funds (15 million DKK)to cover the costs of the gene-therapy treatment (Zolgensma) and additional expenses like travel, consultation fee and accomodation during her treatment abroad.  By giving Ayah this treatment, we hope to give her an almost normal childhood where she will be able to play with her big sister without any major obstacle. We are in a race against time to achieve our goal since this treatment is currently only approved for children under 2 years old. He was the ring bearer in my wedding. Last month, I watched him walk across the stage in a Jacksonville arena weighted down by more cords and medals to count. He would either continue to attend the church that outwardly attacked him and his sexual orientation or he would need to leave home. For his own well-being and safety, Seth chose the later. He’s been living with friends and working to sustain himself since financially. His parents have refused to support him emotionally or financially because they deem his sexual orientation inconsistent with their religious beliefs. Throughout this all, Seth held his head high and continued to work almost full-time while finishing high school at the top of his class as the co-valedictorian. Seth was admitted to Georgetown University and received a financial aid package based on the premise of parental support. Seth appealed this decision with letters from mental health professionals, school personnel, mentors, and community organizations, but Georgetown University has refused to amend his financial aid package leaving Seth with $20,000 bill to cover his first year. I know the goal seems unrealistic and the circumstances aren’t ideal, but i also know communities can make the impossible possible. It’s Pride Month and rainbows abound around the world. Help me bring a rainbow in the midst of Seth’s storm.

Support Victims of Pulse Shooting

Hi there! I'm Anthony and I work in public service and policy in Chicago. I am soon transitioning out of my current position and heading off to graduate school with a focus in public policy and human rights studies in 2016. I volunteered for 6 weeks with All Hands Volunteers in Melamchi, Nepal, after a devastating earthquake in April and May of 2015 that caused incredible damage and took countless lives. I'm fundraising to make a sizeable donation to the community and volunteers back on base, as well as for some significant cost overrun. Any amount you can donate will be extremely helpful! Here's more about the work being done in Nepal: On April 25th, a 7.8 earthquake hit Nepal near the capital city of Kathmandu, the worst of its kind in more than 80 years. More than 9,000 people were killed, a further 23,000 were injured and the mass destruction to infrastructure and homes was vast. Aftershocks continued to shake the country in the weeks that followed causing further fear for those who left homeless and vulnerable by the initial earthquake.
