<div>UPDATE 6/27: Earlier this week Norma Jean was seriously injured in a car accident and is in a coma. This came during a wave of triumphs for NJ: touring cross country with her band; settling in with her cat Pema to her beautiful home in Williamsburg; and returning to work teaching voice and playing with the Young@Heart chorus, which she told me earlier this month felt "amazing and easeful."

<div>We are all shocked and heartbroken, and at this point don't know much about what is ahead other than it will be a very long process. In the meantime we are resuming fundraising urgently to help with ongoing medical expenses as Norma remains in the hospital.

<div>I am fundraising to support my friend and bandmate Norma Jean Haynes as she recovers from cancer and chemotherapy. The money we raise will provide Norma stability and breathing room to rest and get her footing before she takes her next steps. Returning to her former job as a classroom music teacher is no longer possible for Norma, who is now immunocompromised and still regaining her energy. It will take some time for her to find new work that is physically and financially sustainable.

<div>Last winter, Norma left her full-time job as a music teacher to take care of her father, who passed away earlier this year. She managed his end-of-life care while living off of her savings. During this time, she began to experience the debilitating fatigue and brain fog of Stage 2 Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but was not diagnosed until June, and began treatment in the summer.

<div>Maybe you know Norma from the Hilltowns, or shape note singing in Laurel Park, or in the classroom where she taught young children music, maybe you met her swimming in the river every day in the summer, or just around: because she is someone with the uncanny ability to be everywhere and know everyone. Norma is a remarkable part of our community in Western Mass, and communities beyond that, too, a brilliant friend and musician.

<div>Any friend of Norma’s will inevitably recount a time she has championed them: she has the ability, like no one else I know, to make people feel significant. She treats people unequivocally with respect, and accepts them as they are. I am amazed by Norma’s ability to live in true appreciation of the people around her; the world around her.

<div>Through the upheaval, grief, illness, and heartbreak in her life this past year, I watched Norma meet her friends and community every day with kindness, grace, a sense of humor, and a seemingly endless well of patience. I have been so moved by her ability to take care of her friends even during such a difficult time in her own life, and I hope now, together, we can take care of her. I want us to offer Norma enough for a period of ease and rest, to regain her strength and steady herself for her next moves post-chemo.

<div>We are looking to raise $25,000 to support Norma's living expenses and help her rebuild her savings. This will provide a cushion for Norma to fully recuperate without financial stress, and to take adequate time to heal without extra pressure before transitioning back into work.

<div>On January 13th, 2026 TJ Sabula, a worker at the Ford Rouge Plant, voiced concerns about President Donald J Trump during the president's visit to the plant. The president responded to TJ with his middle finger saying “F*CK you” and “You’re Fired”. Ford responded by suspending TJ without pay.

<div>TJ is a father of two young children, husband, and is a proud United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 600 line worker. Funds donated will support TJ and his family to cover expenses during this time of uncertainty.

<div>While many of us have been sipping cocoa by the fire and wrapping presents, they’ve been packing up vans, playing their hearts out, and giving others the gift of music, magic, and connection. Whether you’ve spent a season singing with The Amidon Family, The Sweetback Sisters, or The Country Christmas Sing Along Spectacular, the Amidon &amp; Bodē family music has been a treasured tradition for all of us.

<div>Zara and Stefan are walking through a very tender season, having just lost their beloved father and father-in-law, Peter Amidon. As they wade through this immense grief, they have made the tough decision to step away from the stage this holiday season and nestle in the quiet comfort of home, allowing them to be close to family and to care for one another.

<div>They also dream of reigniting their creative energies and look forward to making another album in the New Year, bringing even *more* comfort and joy to our ears and hearts. But as full-time touring musicians, stepping off the stage — even for a season — means stepping away from the income that supports their lives.

<div>Together we can give their home (comprised of their two darling children + Zara’s sweet Grandpa) the gift of a peaceful season, free from their holiday financial worries.
