Help a Friend Find Safety and Stability

We’re raising funds for a friend and former colleague who came to the U.S. to pursue a graduate degree after fleeing an unsafe situation in Myanmar. Her hometown has been devastated by ongoing conflict, forcing her family into displacement and making it impossible for her to return.

Determined to build a better future, she earned her degree and secured a role on a USAID-funded human rights project supporting her country. However, due to recent federal funding cuts, she lost her job and now faces an uncertain future.

Her temporary visa is running out, and while she is working at a coffee shop to support herself, it is not a sustainable solution. She urgently needs to apply for asylum to remain safe—but the legal fees total $5,000.

This is where we can make a difference. Every donation, no matter the size, brings her closer to securing the protection she desperately needs.

Please consider contributing to help her cover these critical legal expenses. For safety reasons, we’re not sharing her identity here, but if you’d like more details, please contact Jenny Wagner.

Your kindness and generosity can change her life. Thank you for your support!

Help A Friend Find Safety and Stability

Hello everyone,

In partnership with our friends in Myanmar we are raising funds for both the Ah Nyar Institute and a few other smaller organizations, that they will distribute to on a needs basis. We have an individual who is willing to do a $1 for $1 match on all funds raised on this platform as well. This means if we raise $2500 here (or more!), then they will also give $2500, for a total of $5000+. So, 100% of what you donate goes straight to Ah Nyar and our friends and colleagues in Myanmar who work within other organizations.

An Nyar Institute: - Lead with Action towards Educational Justice.

This is a youth led and voluntary institution striving towards educational justice for students and young people from underrepresented backgrounds in Myanmar. They work on continuing education for students, mentoring programs, and some basic needs programs for individuals under hardship.

Please spread this around and thank you so much.

Bula vinaka everyone,

My name is Kaliova Cadrevia of Nananu Village in the Western of Fiji Islands. I used to work for Global Works USA (2009 - 2011) and now am still working with Carpe Diem Education USA (2008 - to date) as a Fiji Coordinator. We worked together on various projects (building footpaths, building Kindergarten School, building school benches, building school nursery, building Village Hall, providing teaching materials, etc.) in so many villages including my village.

Unfortunately, on the 17th of December, 2020 Fiji was affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa (a Category 3 cyclone).
We were struggling through that, while trying to celebrate Christmas and New Years. Again on the 30th of January this year we again got struck by Tropical Cyclone Ana (another Category 3 cyclone) which brought a lot of rain which flooded many towns and villages in Fiji. TC Ana was then followed by her sister TC Bina and became a Tropical Depression when it reached Fiji. Houses and schools are blown away and most houses where underwater for a few days. Most people are still struggling to get their life together and some are still picking up pieces of what was left to rebuild to have something at least above their head since tarps and tents are not reliable in this rainy weather.
I am really touched and it breaks my heart how people in my village and nearby villages are still struggling to get food, water and school stationary, therefore I am really needing your assistance in supporting the needy. If you donate $15 USD I am sure it will bring a smile to a family with providing 10kg rice, 10kg flour and 2kg sugar which can last a month for the family of 5. Most of the villagers depend exclusively on their farm/plantation for food but now have to depend on buying from supermarkets until they regain their lives and their farm.

The school in Fiji will again resume next week and I am sure some parents will find it hard to send their kids to school. With your help, I'm looking forward to assisting Nananu Village, Naseyani Village, Rabulu Village, Togovere Village and Nakuku Village.
No financial amount is too small or big. If you'd instead like to donate clothes (needed for kids and adults) and/or school and teaching supplies, I can be contacted on Facebook messenger (at Kali Cadrevia), email ([email redacted]) and on phone at (+679) [phone redacted].

I pray that our God the almighty blesses each and everyone of us and gives comfort to my affected families in Fiji.

Vinaka,

KALI
(Kali with his wife and son Kaliova Christian)

It’s a pretty bleak picture, but thankfully we live in a world of amazing musicians willing to work hard and sacrifice so that we don’t inhabit a musical void. Abdoul Doumbia has been sharing his music and ancestral knowledge around the world for 30 years, bringing joy and inspiration to so many, but now he needs our support. Recently, his last living uncle passed away, transferring a world of family responsibilities to Abdoul’s shoulders. Abdoul’s family needs him to immediately return to Mali, West Africa to stand for them, but because of losing his job due to Covid19 pandemic restrictions and his many years of generosity and sacrifice, he is financially struggling to make the trip home to support his people.

Here is an urgent opportunity to support a deeply knowledgeable elder of West African music.

Here is an urgent opportunity to acknowledge and thank him and his family, who have given the world a vibrant and powerful music, rich with history and meaning.

Here is an urgent opportunity to recognize, thank and uplift a family that holds vast and irreplaceable orally transmitted ancestral knowledge for their generosity in sharing this with all of us.

Who among us will show up to uplift a man who has uplifted countless people, and now asks for our help so he can be there when his family in Mali needs him desperately? Would you be willing to give a dollar? Five dollars? Twenty dollars? Musicians of Mali have been influencing and inspiring the world for centuries, and we can do a little to thank them today.

To learn more about Abdoul and his music:

http://abdouldoumbia.com/
https://doumbiadrums.bandcamp.com/album/madu-faraba-sylla-abdoul-doumbia
https://doumbiadrums.bandcamp.com/album/sabu-nyuma

My name is Gordon Hellegers, aka Salif Bamakora, and I am organizing this fundraiser on Abdoul’s behalf because he has been a dear friend and mentor to me for 20 years. I have lived with his family in Mali, and he has lived with my family here in the States.

I will be collecting your generosity on his behalf and assuring that 100% of the proceeds are transferred to Abdoul Doumbia whether he be in the US or Mali, so that he may travel as immediately as possible.

This man is a living treasure, please help to uplift him and his family.

Uplifting our Elders; Supporting Abdoul Doumbia

My son Paul Byars had a terrible ski accident this past week. He has been an avid skier since he was 6 yrs. old and this is the 1st serious crash. The trees hit back this time. He has two breaks on his spine - both stable - and with care he will heal. Cannot work for sometime and his insurance company has not responded to calls. Even if they do - the medical bills and just living expenses will be outrageous. Brenda is taking excellent care of him, his children are also doing everything they can for him, but the family could use some help. We will all be eternally grateful for any help you can give.

Within the jungles of Northern Thailand, a multi-cultural community of changemakers are building a grassroots, female-run ecovillage/unschool for saving seeds and invigorating endangered cultural practices. It is a safe space where people fleeing war and the narrow views of modernity can relearn forgotten ways of living. It is an important place, for all beings, from all walks of life. And they need your financial help, to keep alive what remains of a dying world.

In this time of global upheaval, we need more than a protest against what we don't like. We need living examples that demonstrate what an alternative way of living can look like. Panya Forest, uniquely positioned at the crossroads of many in-tact cultural influences, is such a place, an active community where the hands-on, open-hearted, earthbound skills most necessary for tomorrow are on display today, for all to see. Skills such as how to live together cross-culturally, how to meaningfully manage conflict and orchestrate peace, how to thrive outside of capitalism, how to raise children as a village, how to live well with grief, regenerate soil, make beauty and exist simply upon the earth in ways that ensure well-being for generations to come.

Most modern people have forgotten how to grow food, how to treat water, how to build a home with natural materials, or even how to harmoniously coexist with other people, how to cook a meal from scratch, how to grow ones own food or save one's own seeds. At Panya Forest, we strive not only to keep the seeds themselves alive, but the myriad cultural wisdom-traditions encoded within each seed.

It is estimated that roughly 96% of all seeds on planet earth have gone extinct in the past 35 years. The same is true of the once vast array of unique educational systems and cultural narratives that have suffered from centuries of colonial/corporate domination that prefers a "fast food" approach to life. We are living in a time of rapid homogenization of dreams. As farmers, we know the soil can only be healthy when a diverse array of lifeforms exist below ground. The same is indeed true for humans. Diversity is what makes us strong.

We need to keep alive our seeds. So too, we must keep alive the countless beautiful understandings of what it means to be human that have kept humans resilient for millenia. It isn't that we need to find a better way to live, we need to allow for the other stories, that are already already here, to be finally heard, voices beyond empire.

So much has already been done here at Panya Forest. Once a thriving permaculture community, like so many other projects, it was crippled during the COVID years. But the spark did not die. Like a seed waiting for proper conditions to allow it to sprout, a vision set in motion nearly 20 years ago now resurfaces, in a new form. The foundation has already been laid. The people have already come. Now we simply need your generous financial support to help fuel the engine of cultural regeneration.

Because we live simply, we don't actually require much. We estimate that $25,000 USD can cover our expenses for one year. An entire community centered around preserving indigenous ways of being, a thriving forest grown by the hands of many dedicated friends from all around the world, animals, a school, a place of healing and of refuge.

Please help us. If you see value in this effort to not simply protest what is wrong with the world but to physically build the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible, so that others can see and feel and experience it for themselves, we humbly request you to kindly offer what you can.

You are most welcome here. Come, anytime.

We hope to see you soon.
