<div>This is the much called for fund raising page for Hillary Dawa Sherpa and his family. The aim is to raise enough funds to ensure the man will never have to put his life in danger again, having served diligently and selflessly in the mountains for long enough. And particularly after the monumental ordeal he has endured.

<div>It has been made with the blessings of his family. Nuru Sherpa (who is the brother of Hillary Dawa Sherpas wife) and his daughter (co-organiser) Mendo Lhamu Sherpa. His family and myself thank you for your kind donations they are very much gratefully received.

<div>Ich bin Matthias, 58 Jahre alt. Ein einziger Zeckenbiss im Herbst 2024 hat mein Leben von einem Tag auf den anderen zerstört. Früher war ich aktiv und selbstständig, jetzt kann ich nicht einmal meine Arme bewegen oder irgendetwas alleine tun. Alles – selbst essen, trinken oder mich bewegen – hängt von anderen ab.

<div>Am 6. November 2024 holte mich der Rettungswagen ab. In der Klinik Haspe konnte zunächst niemand meine Erkrankung feststellen. Doch mein Zustand verschlechterte sich schnell, und am 9. November 2024 kam ich auf die Intensivstation des AKH Hagen. Ich war wochenlang im Koma, intubiert und vollkommen hilflos. Erst Ende November 2024 erhielt ich die Diagnose: FSME – Frühsommer-Meningoenzephalitis.

<div>Die folgenden Monate waren ein harter Kampf:

<div>10. Dezember 2024 – 19. März 2025: Intensiv-Reha Hagen-Ambrock, teilweise erneut im Koma, zusätzlich COVID-Infektion + Dekubitus.

<div>19. März – 8. Mai 2025: St. Josef Krankenhaus Bochum, Behandlung von Dekubitus und weiteren Komplikationen

<div>8. Mai – 6. November 2025: Reha Bad Kissingen, um langsam wieder etwas Selbstständigkeit zu erlangen

<div>Meine Familie hat alles getan, damit ich überhaupt am Leben teilnehmen kann: Sie bauten eine Rampe, damit ich in die erste Etage unseres Hauses komme. Doch alles bleibt extrem eingeschränkt. Ich kann keine Schritte alleine machen, keine Arme bewegen, kann nicht ins Auto steigen – meine Welt ist winzig geworden.

<div>Im November 2026 kam Vanessa, meine mobile Physiotherapeutin. Sie kommt drei bis vier Mal pro Woche, arbeitet unermüdlich mit mir, um mir Kraft und Beweglichkeit zurückzugeben. Doch so sehr wir uns bemühen: die größte Barriere bleibt die Mobilität nach draußen.

<div>Ein rollstuhlgerechtes Auto wäre meine einzige Chance, wieder ein Stück Freiheit zu erleben. Dort könnte ich direkt im Rollstuhl hineingeschoben und sicher transportiert werden, ohne dass ich umgesetzt werden muss. Ich möchte wieder raus – Arzttermine, Therapien, Besuche bei Familie, ein Spaziergang oder einfach frische Luft – all das ist ohne Hilfe unmöglich.

<div>Die Kosten für so ein Auto liegen bei etwa 35.000 Euro. Für meine Familie allein ist das nicht zu stemmen. Bitte helfen Sie mir, Wege zurück ins Leben zu finden, die ich alleine nicht gehen kann.
