<div>On April 8,2024 my 15 year old daughter and her teenage co-workers were assaulted at their place of employment. In minutes, our family's life shattered when my only daughter was assaulted outside of the McDonald’s on Parker Road and 367. As shown in the video , there was a number of people whom we later found out were adults. They came into the McDonald’s and began to spit on my daughter and the young man at the cash register. The incident started in the drive thru and escalated inside. The adults also began to destroy McDonald’s property by throwing things and damaging the self serve screens. In the video you can see the Adult male grabbing and dragging Aryiah by her long braids , and stomping her in her head. He then let her go, but returned to punch her numerous of times in her face. She was admitted to one of the local hospitals in Saint Louis with a nose fracture and frontal lobe damage. Aryiah has also sustained a broken nose, a concussion, and many lacerations in her head. Aryiah had to have surgery April 17, which was a success. She is fighting hard to stay upbeat and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle. She is currently on bed rest in hopes to return to work. She need help with medical expenses.

<div>A little bit about Aryiah….. She is a 15 year old ambitious young lady, who enjoys spending time with her siblings and working at McDonald’s. She is saving money for her upcoming birthday. Aryiah is very independent, she is a loving and sweet girl who would give a person the shirt off of her back. She also loves school and is looking forward to walking the stage at graduation. This assault has been a life changing experience for her. Please keep Aryiah in your prayers and lets help to uplift her in the most positive way to help her remain in good spirits. <div>With a heavy heart, we share that our beautiful Daniela and Sofia have passed away. They were tragically taken from us by a senseless act on May 6th, 2023. <div>On Saturday, May 6th, Cindy, Kyu, William and James Cho visited the Allen outlet mall together in North Texas. William just celebrated his 6th birthday 4 days prior and James is 3. An afternoon that should have been filled with light, love and celebration unfortunately was cut short by another mass shooting massacre that left 8 victims dead. Cindy, Kyu and three year old James were among those victims that tragically lost their lives and the family is in deep mourning. After being released from the ICU, their six year old son William is the only surviving member of this horrific event.

<div>Captain Grady Kurpasi was inspiring, selfless, and constantly endured hardship and difficulty with a smile on his face. He led his Marines by example and loved his family - speaking of them often. Grady was born in Korea and was adopted and moved to the United States while he was an infant. On 9/11 Grady was living in his hometown of New York City. The attacks on the World Trade Center compelled him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He went from working as a computer programmer making excellent money to being an Marine Infantry Assaultman(0351) at the age of 29.
</div>
<div>Grady was assigned to 2nd Battalion 5th Marines out of Camp Pendleton California. He did a brief workup and was then deployed to Kuwait. He partook in the initial invasion of Iraq and excelled there. Upon completion of the invasion 2/5 was rotated home and he was invited to try out for 2/5’s Scout Sniper Platoon. He passed the grueling indoc and was slated to go to Sniper school, where he was one of the few to pass and earn his coveted HOG’s tooth. After completion of Sniper School he went on three more deployments with 2/5 as a 0317. Two of those were in Ramadi in 2005 and 2007. He participated in multiple operations and was awarded multiple valor awards, as well as a Purple Heart in 2007 when his sniper hide was hit with a VBIED.
</div>
<div>After those deployments Grady went through MECEP and attended UCLA where he graduated with high honors. He was awarded as the 2009 Pat Tillman Scholar of the Year. Upon graduation at UCLA, Grady went through OCS, TBS, and OIC, graduating high in all of his classes. During OIC Grady was injured but persevered and gained the coveted MOS of 0302.
</div>
<div>In 2012 Grady returned to the Fifth Marine Regiment and was assigned as Platoon Commander of 3rd Platoon Golf Company Second Battalion 4th Marines. Grady always led from the front and pushed his Marines to be physically, technically, and mentally tougher. He always put the men before himself, in his eyes he worked for his Marines not the other way around. He completed 2 tours with Golf Company on the 31st MEU. First as a platoon commander then as company XO.
</div>
<div>After his tour with 2/4 Grady was stationed in Korea for 3 years with his wife and daughter. During this time he explored his birth country with his wife and daughter, while also working as a liaison with the Korean Military. Upon completion of his tour in Korea he was assigned as 2nd Marine Regiments H&amp;S Company commander. This is where he would finish his career. In September of 2021 Capt Kurpasi was officially retired after 20 years of dedicated service to this nation, all during the height of the GWOT.
</div>
<div>After retiring from the Marine Corps, Grady felt obligated to assist in Ukraine as they defended their country against the Russian invasion. Grady went to train soldiers but due to the intensity of the war and the need for combat-experienced leaders, Grady ended up leading a squad into battle and was killed in action.

<p>July 4th 9:40 pm, Anaheim - The nightmare for Nhung Pham and her mother, Lam Nguyen began, both remain in this nightmare and one, a mother who may not make it - permanently in a state of unknown, with her last visual being that of a car heading to her only daughter.
</p>

<p><br />Instinctively, as a mother and any parent would do, she put herself in front of her child, absorbing, critically a great deal of the impact...crushing her arms, legs, breaking almost all ribs instantly, and shattering her body.

<p><br />This is the story of a mother and daughter, celebrating Independence Day, viewing fireworks that neighbors bring out every year, and also the many fireworks in the sky over Anaheim and Disneyland. This story and day however for Lam and her daughter, did not end with them celebrating freedom in America, but with both confided to hospital beds, critically injured due to the negligence of a driver who crashed into the family as they stood watching fireworks from the sidewalk in their neighborhood.

<p>Multiple witnesses have come forward stating that a "lowered" pickup truck was driving erratically, doing "donuts", "peeling" out, and/or doing "burnouts" before losing control and crashing into a crowd in which Nhung and her mother was standing with.
</p>

<p>The unknown driver was detained, given a sobriety test which he passed, and released on the spot. His mother later speaking to local news reporters, stated that her son was shaken up, but was not at fault for the incident and was driving his pickup truck down the road when the axle broke which caused the truck to lose control crashing into the family.
</p>

<p>When police arrived at the scene they found two female victims with "major injuries". Both critically injured and transferred to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
</p>

<p><strong>The police report number is 21-96252.</strong> The officers at Anaheim Police Department are Serganet Steve Craig #S202 and Investigator Nathan Fay #538.
</p>

<p><strong><em>Nhung Pham (22 years old)</em></strong>  had multiple surgeries and serious injuries including;
</p>

<li>Broken Hip/Pelvis
</li>

<li>Multiple lacerations and internal bleeding/clots

<p>The impact was so hard that when her ribs broken they ended up puncturing both her liver and kidney. She is alert, in very bad shape, and has gone into surgery multiple times.

<p><strong><em>Lam Nguyen (44 years old)  </em></strong>cannot breathe on her own. The nurses described her as simply having her entire body broken. Multiple skull fractures, both arms broken, both legs broken, neck broken, and nearly every part of her body was broken in the crash. The doctors performed emergency surgery on her today, the outcome is unknown. Other known injuries...

<p><strong>Nhung and her mother immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 2010</strong>, seeking a better life. Ironically, her father who was here, and saved enough money to bring them over, stated that they would be safer in America because the traffic in, "Vietnam is too dangerous". Lam, her mother works full-time at a factory/bakery. Her father works an office job. <strong>Nhung is a full-time student at Cal State Long Beach (3.9 GPA) and both her mother and father work to support her</strong> as she attends school, achieving her dream of attending medical school, and ultimately becoming a doctor.

<p><strong>I have known Nhung for several years</strong>, as a long-time girlfriend of my nephew (who contacted me as this happened), she is almost a part of our family, and is at my home for holidays and family events. She is extremely kind-hearted, soft-spoken, and the type of person who is polite and respectful. It is with great sadness that I write this and make this campaign in support of someone close to our family.

Early this year, I was walking home from the gym on a particularly cold day. I was still dressed in my running clothes. And as I neared my home, I passed by a 76-year old woman dressed in a floor length faux mink coat. She was gripping tightly to a railing. ‘You look great,’ I told her.  Then she pointed at my own clothes— ‘Let me ask you a question,’ she said. ‘Why is it always white boys who wear shorts in the winter?’<br /><br />And thus began my friendship with Stephanie. One of Stephanie's more endearing  traits is that she will launch into a wild story within seconds of meeting a person-- often before customary greetings are exchanged. And that's exactly what she did. She began telling me stories from the 1970's, when she worked as a burlesque dancer named Tanqueray. Her memory for detail was amazing, and she had a singular way of describing things. Stephanie will say the wildest things without a hint of self-consciousness. It really has a way of drawing you in. And after she'd been going for about five minutes, I interrupted for long enough to ask if I could run to my house and get my camera.  <br /><br /><br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51307760_1600541509357281_r.jpeg" alt="51307760_1600541509357281_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br />The resulting interview went quite viral, as many of you will remember. And Stephanie had a lot of fun with it.  People were stopping her on the street all day long. And Stephanie loves an audience-- even if it’s just an audience of one. So anyone who stopped her for a selfie would leave ten minutes later with an earful of stories. And what stories they were.  Nobody has lived a life like Stephanie’s. The two of us agreed to meet regularly at a nearby diner, so I could get her whole story down on paper. We did about twenty interviews together. Our initial plan was to create a podcast. But after we'd gone quite a distance down that path, circumstances suddenly changed. <br /><br />Stephanie has been in pain for as long as I've known her. When we first met she was walking with a cane. And every time we walked to the diner, she'd grip tightly to my arm. Even then-- it would take us fifteen minutes to travel half a block. She’d wince in pain whenever she was jostled or bumped. Occasionally she’d scream out. It was clear that something was seriously wrong with her leg. She attributed the injury to a bad fall that she'd suffered a few months earlier, but she seemed confident that she was on the mend. When the pandemic started, Stephanie and I continued our conversations over the phone. She would call me several times a day. And whenever I didn't answer, she'd always leave a voicemail—usually telling me some story she’d just remembered. Last month I grew concerned when a few days passed without hearing from her. I called a neighbor to check up on her, and he heard Stephanie's voice coming from the back bedroom. She'd taken a bad fall and had been on the floor for 72 hours without food or water. The EMTs broke down her door and took her to the hospital. <br /><br />Ever since the fall, Stephanie has been unable to stand or walk. She is in a lot of pain. She's always been  a private person in many ways, but the current crisis has necessitated a candor about her situation. We’ve hired a team of professionals to make her apartment clean and comfortable. We’ve gotten her a 24-hour home health aide. She now has a physical therapist coming to the apartment multiple times a week.  And we're working on handling the back rent and eviction notices. Her health is not improving as quickly as we'd like, but Stephanie remains absolutely convinced that she is on the mend. Unfortunately her unorthodox lifestyle hasn't qualified her for social security. And she doesn’t currently have insurance. (Though we're trying to get her signed up for Medicare.) Her care is extremely expensive. So far I’ve been using funds from the HONY Patreon, but it’s not sustainable long term.   <br /><br />Stephanie and I have decided to scrap our idea of making a podcast. And I’ve spent the last few weeks retooling the story for publication on Humans of New York. Our plan is to raise funds for Stephanie’s care alongside the telling of her story. The ultimate goal is for Stephanie to live the rest of her life on her own terms. Maybe that means an assisted living facility. Maybe that means remaining in her apartment with the assistance of a home health aide. I’m not sure. But I want to provide her with enough resources so that it’s her decision, and not a decision forced upon her. But I’m not viewing this as charity. Stephanie brings a priceless resource to the table—her story. We're just going to tell that story using a new model.  Instead of selling advertising, or selling it to a publisher, we’re asking for voluntary contributions from anyone who’s gotten value from Stephanie’s narrative. If the story of her life has made you laugh, or cry, or think—please consider compensating the person who lived it. Because right now her story is the one thing she has to offer.<br /><br />We are being very thoughtful with the money. Stephanie knows that there are risks involved with publicly raising funds for a person in her vulnerable situation. So with her blessing, we will be placing the money in a trust to ensure that it provides sustainable, long term care. The trust will cover her living expenses and health care needs moving forward. (Which will admittedly be quite extensive.) 9 year old Quaden is an amazing boy from Australia with dwarfism. One day when his mother picked him up from school, she found Quaden in hysterics. Quaden was being bullied so horribly in school, that he just could not take it anymore. His mother filmed his tearful outcry and put it on Facebook to let people know the effect that bullying can have. The bullying was so severe, in the video Quaden can be heard saying “Give me a knife—I want to kill myself.” I’m setting up this GoFundMe to let Quaden know that bullying will not be tolerated, and that he is a wonderful human being who deserves joy. I want to fly Quaden and his mother to America, get them a nice hotel, and bring them to Disneyland. For the next week, we'll be sharing the stories of Rohingya refugees on Humans of New York.  Nearly 700,000 refugees have arrived in Bangladesh over the past several months, having been violently expelled from their homes by Buddhist extremists in Myanmar.  They have experienced and witnessed many atrocities.  Most of these refugees have settled in two sprawling camps just over the border: Kutupalong and Balukhali.  While aid agencies such as the UNHCR are doing their best to cope with the humanitarian crisis, most refugees are provided with only the basics they need to survive.  <br /><br /> <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/28133496_15200939200_r.jpeg" alt="28133496_15200939200_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /><br /><br />Monsoon season is quickly approaching in Bangladesh, so we’re raising money to help build durable shelter for these refugees.  Almost every refugee is currently living in a plastic tent.  When the monsoons arrive, these tents will provide almost no protection from the elements.  And because the camps have been deforested, there are no roots to hold the soil in place-- so even the ground will be washed away.<br /> <br />The houses we are helping to build are special.  They are made of bamboo.  They have two bedrooms, which will allow a small degree of privacy and dignity for large families.  They have a kitchen area.  These things sound simple, but under the current conditions, they represent a huge leap in comfort and security.  Each house costs around $630 to build.  The houses can hold a family of six people, and will be assigned to the most vulnerable of families as identified by the UNHCR.     <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/28133496_1520185115.2537_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /> <br />The houses have been designed and built by Love Army: a wonderful idea/organization created by my friend Jerome Jarre.  Together with a band of YouTube creators and social media influencers, Love Army raised over $2 million to help Rohingya refugees.  After the fundraiser, Jerome stopped posting on social media and has quietly spent the last several months on the ground in Bangladesh.  I'm very proud and impressed by his work.  Love Army has partnered with the American Refugee Committee and local NGOs such as OBAT Helpers to make sure that every dollar is spent in the most effective way.  The houses are being built by refugees themselves, so even the labor costs are funneled back into the community.  All of Love Army’s overhead costs are covered through privately sourced funds, which means 100% of your donations will go directly to the construction of houses! <br /><br />It’s all very simple.  So let’s build houses for Rohingya Refugees!<br /><br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/28133496_1520176856.4085_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br />(Pictured: Jerome, his team, and hundreds of paid Rohingya volunteers who are helping with construction.)<br /><br />Love Army is now a 501(c)(3) charity and will be managing funds directly as of 2/6/19.

Houses For Rohingya Refugees

<p dir="ltr">"Yesterday was a tragic day for many here in Northern California. As many might have heard a gunman took many innocent lives, and many sustained life threatening injuries at the mass shooting at Rancho Tehama Elementary School." The Phommathep family had three wounded out four in their truck. A 10yr son with two gunshot wound to the calf, a 7yr old son with a gunshot wound to his foot, and 2yr old with scratches from glass fragmemts. And the wife had five gunshot wound which are life threatening; four to the side of the left shoulder nearly missing the heart and one to the abdomen which cut through three parts of the intestine. She was in ICU and went to a 4hr surgery. <br /><br />On a normal morning Johnny's wife would text him, "Dropping the kids off". When he asked what would she like for him to pick up on his way home and after 30mins of no response he knew something bad had happened. When he got a phone call from the sheriffs/authorities letting him know his wife and sons have been shot is a phone call nobody needs to hear. On Nov 14, 2017 his wife Tiffany Phommathep (driver), son Johnny Phommathep 10yr old, Jake Phommathep 7yr old, and Nikos 2yr old were on their way to Rancho Tehama Elementary School. As a gunman pulled along side their truck and started firing from a high rifle. Jake was in the rear back passenger seat of the truck and was struck on his foot. Johnny was hit twice on his calf in front of passenger. Nikos got cuts from glass fragments. His beautiful wife Tiffany was shielding Johnny in the front passenger seat and was struct five round and leaving a bullet inside of her intestine and the upper shoulder nearly hitting the heart. After the gunmen drove away his wife was bleeding severely she screamed for helped along with his son Johnny and no one stopped to help. She then drove 1 mile to our local gas station and screamed again and multiple people stared and did not bother to help. She then made the decision to go into town and drove 5 miles down a county road until she flagged shown a Sheriff vehicle. His family appreciated everything this officer did for my wife and kids. Johnny being a Combat Vet he was trained to help people with injuries it's very disheartening to hear so many turn away from a dying female and multiple kids who have been shot. Financially Johnny's the only sole provider for a family of six. The money they'll receive will go toward expenses that are needed and household needs and bills while Johnny is off work to care for his family. Phommathep Family Victims

Our beloved Michelle Vo was taken from us so suddenly on 10/2/17 during the Las Vegas Shooting. The heartache being felt by everyone is only manageable because of the amount of love that everyone has for her is so tangible. <br /><br />True to Michelle's style, she prepared for this very unlikely event and shared her wishes very specifically with her family. Those wishes include a memorial service to give every single person that loved her a chance to share a story or a memory in celebration of her life. <br /><br />Michelle is gone but her life is not. Every single one of us changed a bit when we met her. Every good deed we do, we do it a little easier because Michelle taught us how. The responsibility to continue to share her infectious ambition, excitability, and passion for life now lies within all of us. <br /><br />Please donate to assist in covering the expenses that will be needed to make this memorial wish come true. Early Thursday morning my Godson,  David, a 15 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy, had his walker stolen off of his front porch. David relies on his walker for his mobility. He was in tears when he found out. He cried to his mom, "Now I can't go anywhere!" David has endured 10 surgeries, most recently an 8 hour surgery to straighten his legs. He has endured so much in his life and now someone steals his only form of mobility. His walker was custom made for him. All of our family lives in Fort Worth, TX and everyone in David's neighborhood knows him. All funds will be deposited into David's parents bank account so they can purchase him a new walker.
