<div><strong>On the morning of July 7, 2026, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was taken from the people who loved him most. </strong>He was 52 years old. He was a husband, a father of three sons, a small business owner, and the heart of his family. This fund exists to carry his family through the impossible days ahead, and to let them grieve without the added weight of how they will get by.

<div>Lorenzo built his life the honest way: with early mornings, long hours, and his own two hands. He ran his own construction business, building, with real work and real skill, the kind of life he wanted for his family. He was known for his work ethic, his fairness, and his willingness to help anyone who needed it. When people describe him, the first words are always the same, hardworking, dependable, kind. He was the kind of man who showed up: for his family, for his friends, for his neighbors, and on every job he ever took.

Lorenzo and wife met when they were just teenagers and had been together ever since, building a life, a home, and a family side by side over 35 years in the United States together. Theirs was the kind of partnership people hope for their whole lives. Now his wife faces a future she never imagined, without the person she has loved since she was young.

<div>Above everything, Lorenzo was a devoted father to his three sons. He worked as hard as he did so that his boys could have more than he had, so that their futures could be brighter than his own beginnings. Everything he built, he built for them. Now three young men must go forward without their father, and their mother must find a way to hold their family together.

<div>I normally don’t post things like this, but my cousin Brittney really needs help right now, and I want people to understand what she and her babies are going through.

<div>She gave birth to her twins at just 24 weeks and 3 days. They were immediately rushed to the NICU and spent over 4 months fighting for their lives. It was one of the hardest starts a family can go through, but they kept pushing forward.

</div>

</div>

<div>Her son Samir had to have a shunt placed before coming home. After he was discharged on May 12, 2025, things didn’t seem right—he stopped tracking with his eyes, cried constantly, and just wasn’t the same baby. She voiced her concerns, but was told he needed time to adjust.

</div>

</div>

<div>By June 14, Samir was back in the hospital.

</div>

</div>

<div>From there, it became a constant cycle of uncertainty—possible shunt problems, possible infection, then no clear answers. Eventually, she was told he had a brain infection and was having multiple seizures every hour. He ended up back on a breathing tube, and his condition continued to worsen.

<div>She fought hard to get him transferred, and after being denied at first, she appealed and got him moved to Texas Children’s on July 5.

</div>

</div>

<div>That’s when she was finally told the truth—Samir has a severe, irreversible traumatic brain injury.

</div>

</div>

<div>Since then, he has undergone multiple brain surgeries, is now trach and ventilator dependent, and has lost much of his vision and hearing. He is still critically ill and remains in the hospital needing constant specialized care.

</div>

<div>At the same time, her daughter Samiriah also has ongoing medical needs and requires therapies and doctor appointments multiple times a week.

</div>

<div>My cousin is constantly traveling back and forth to the hospital for Samir while also making sure Samiriah gets to every appointment she needs. The emotional, physical, and financial weight of all of this is overwhelming.

</div>

<div>She is doing everything she possibly can, but she cannot carry this alone anymore. She is a full-time caregiver right now and cannot work while managing constant hospital stays, therapies, and appointments for all of her children.

<div>Sunday 27th April 2025
</div>
<div>Luke, his wife Beth, and their two young children, 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son flew to Turkey for what
</div>
<div>should have been a family holiday. Less than a week later, only Luke and the children returned (separately).
</div>
<div>The family saw it as the perfect opportunity to enjoy a proper getaway.
</div>
<div>Sadly, things took a  sad turn.
</div>
<div>Sunday 27th April
</div>
<div>The family flew out to turkey and on arrival Beth began feeling unwell.
</div>
<div>Monday 28th April 2025
</div>
<div>During the night once they arrived Beth managed to get a little sleep but by Monday morning, she became delirious. Luke at this point had tried contacting various doctors and hospitals  but was told that no one could come out till 10am when they start, Luke eventually managed (despite the language barriers) finally got an ambulance and Beth was taken to hospital, Luke followed behind in a taxi with their two young children in tow.
</div>
<div>Beth at this point was not herself and scared, Language barriers again made everything worse. The children traumatised — watched helplessly as their mum was pinned down, poked
</div>
<div>prodded invasively by strangers. No explanations. No understanding. Luke had no choice but to trust the Doctors that they knew what they were doing and that they would take care of her. Little did they know, this would be the last time Luke ever saw his wife, and the last
</div>
<div>time the kids would ever see their mummy alive.
</div>
<div>Luke, unable to leave his children, called both grandmothers, to fly out and help.
</div>
<div>Thanks to a kind stranger Luke had befriended on the plane, this person generously made
</div>
<div>her way to the hospital and stayed with Beth so that Luke could get his children back to the
</div>
<div>hotel in an attempt to avoid further trauma. A few hours later, he was called back and instructed urgently to return and pay upfront for a scan, He returned, paid, and left again with his children.
</div>
<div>That night, Beth was moved into intensive care and her condition by now was critical. Luke was
</div>
<div>banned from seeing her. From there, no calls and no updates despite him trying to contact the hospital to see if his wife was ok, Just silence.
</div>
<div>Tuesday 29th April 2025
</div>
<div>The next day, luke and Beth’s mums arrived in Turkey and immediately went from the airport
</div>
<div>straight to the hospital, frantically searching for Beth. They battled through a destitute and
</div>
<div>worn down hospital, desperate for answers. But nothing. Eventually, Luke got a vague message: Beth had been transferred overnight, both grandparents weren’t even at the right hospital anymore and no one could even be bothered to tell them, or at the very least, contact Luke.
</div>
<div>When Beth was transferred back Luke was told Beth was moved during the night to due to “concerns with her heart” That was all we knew at the time, however, later in the story it will make sense as to why this detail is so critical.
</div>
<div>Finally, they found Beths room, but were restricted access. This is now a mother wanting to see her very sick daughter…..
</div>
<div>“You can see her in 10 minutes”
</div>
<div>“5 more minutes”.
</div>
<div>For hours this continued. Hours.
</div>
<div>Meanwhile, at the hotel — chaos had begun.
</div>
<div>Turkish police arrived at the hotel to interrogate Luke. No translator. Hotel staff acted as
</div>
<div>intermediaries. Through broken communication, Luke was made to sign a document —
</div>
<div>without knowing he later translated the statement which had read that Beth had died at around 9am, He had heard nothing from the hospital regarding this and was constantly texting/ calling his mum asking if they had been allowed to see her yet.
</div>
<div>Now, in an unforeseeable turn - he was considered by Turkish authorities a suspect in her death. Specifically, that he had poisoned her.
</div>
<div>Back at the hospital, The grandparents were given Beth’s belongings — including her
</div>
<div>wedding ring — but still weren’t allowed to see her. This was before they were even aware
</div>
<div>she “may” have passed away? Still, they were being constantly told they could see her in
</div>
<div>"5 more minutes."
</div>
<div>Finally, Beth’s mum was let in but given only a few moments before being removed again, Beth’s mum broken hearted spoke of how cold she felt, and on life support, but alive, barely!
</div>
<div>The grandparents had no choice but
</div>
<div>to go back to the hotel and do their best to comfort Luke.
</div>
<div>The doctor asked if Beth had allergies. Luke had already told the paramedics when Beth got
</div>
<div>in the ambulance that she was allergic to penicillin. And yet when told again , they were shocked to hear this information — they had no idea and had been treating her for hours at this point.
</div>
<div>That evening, the hospital called Luke. Beth had passed. This time, it really was true. Beth
</div>
<div>was gone. Very sadly only a very short time prior to this call the insurance company had contacted Luke and the hospital stating they have now found a private hospital to transfer Beth too within the next few hours that Luke had been fighting since her original admission to get her into.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Before Luke and Beth’s mum could even begin the process of mourning, after being told in a corridor that his wife/daughter has died was told to pay £2000 yet still not allowed to see her.
</div>
<div>they returned back to the hotel and within an hour the police returned telling him they will be burying her the following evening, Luke strongly refused this and told them he is taking her home, they told him to return to the hospital at 8am to be interviewed by a prosecutor .
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The children still didn’t know. Luke was reeling. Accused. Alone.
</div>
<div>Wednesday 30th April 2025
</div>
<div>Luke had no time to grieve. Police had the second interview  at 2pm after waiting hours for them — this time in the
</div>
<div>back of a van in a hospital car park. The Chief Investigator sat at a desk bolted into the
</div>
<div>vehicle. Surrounding them, police officers armed with guns.
</div>
<div>Luke was grilled, accused and broken beyond repair. It seemed that the police, could now
</div>
<div>see at least, that Luke was just a grieving husband. They finally cleared him. No further
</div>
<div>action.
</div>
<div>After cooperating fully, he begged — sobbing — to see his wife. He was allowed into the
</div>
<div>morgue to see her. For one minute. No more. The staff over his shoulder made sure of that.
</div>
<div>Being wrongfully accused in a foreign country of murdering someone you love so dearly is
</div>
<div>life-altering. Beths mum was allowed to see her but were under strict
</div>
<div>instructions to wash her hands, not touch her and not even kiss her. Yet again, staff were over her shoulder, she couldn’t even embrace her dead daughters body.
</div>
<div>What followed next, even more horrifying. They were then instructed to carry Beth’s body.
</div>
<div>In a zipped body bag. They had to take a corner of the bag each and shift her corpse.
</div>
<div>It is uncomprehendable to believe that the mother, husband and best friend of this 28 year
</div>
<div>old young woman, were told to take her body bag through a hospital. The fourth corner of
</div>
<div>the bag – carried by the translator.
</div>
<div>They approached an elevator with her body. As they waited, the translator had the audacity
</div>
<div>to tap away at her body bag. Like it was luggage. Like it was the briefcase of a businessman
</div>
<div>who’s late for a meeting. No compassion. No humanity.
</div>
<div>But this was not the end to the trauma and heartache. Far from it.
</div>
<div>Friday 2nd May 2025
</div>
<div>After the battling and support of other family members back home, they managed to
</div>
<div>arrange for the travel insurance to bring Beth home — however, informed that this could
</div>
<div>take up to two weeks or longer.
</div>
<div>Luke refused. He paid thousands — on top of what he had already paid for scans, taxis,
</div>
<div>hospital fees, translators hotels, repatriation arrangements, transcribing documents, notaries the list goes on — and arranged for her body to fly home himself.
</div>
<div>Saturday 3rd May 2025
</div>
<div>Luke finally had to do what no parent should ever do. He told the children 
</div>
<div>mummy was gone. Dead. Surrounded by grief. He watched the light drain from their eyes. That
</div>
<div>pain is permanent. He held them and they cried together, but not as a family. Because a
</div>
<div>crucial member of that family was gone.
</div>
<div>Sunday 4th &amp; Tuesday 6th May 2025
</div>
<div>The children and family flew home on the Sunday Luke stayed a few days more to fly home
</div>
<div>beside his wife. On Tuesday, they landed together Back Home
</div>
<div>In the weeks since bringing Beth home the family is battered and bruised. Everyone is a
</div>
<div>shell of themselves and no one knows how to even begin to recover from something so
</div>
<div>horrific.. yet still — it gets worse.
</div>
<div>The UK autopsy began. And then the final blow:
</div>
<div>Beth’s heart was missing.
</div>
<div>The Turkish hospital has removed it. No explanation. No consent. They have invaded her
</div>
<div>body and they have TAKEN her heart.
</div>
<div>Her heart. The piece of Beth that was more treasured more than any other. The piece of her
</div>
<div>that stopped for a moment when she heard her children's first words. The piece of her that
</div>
<div>skipped a beat when she said 'I do' at her wedding. The piece of her that pumped viscously with pride whenever she was with her family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And this is why we are fighting back.
</div>
<div>Luke has spent thousands. He’s self-employed, meaning that if he’s not back to work in a
</div>
<div>matter of days, he won’t be able to support his family. They are grieving, traumatised — and
</div>
<div>now trying to put the pieces of their family back together.
</div>
<div>After everything the family have been through - Luke believes passionately that this is
</div>
<div>something that cannot be taken lying down.
</div>
<div>That is why we write this story. That is why we expose the deepest level of trauma we have
</div>
<div>ever experienced as a family. 
</div>
<div>With excruciating detail, we are exposing our pain in sharing this and asking for help and hopefully bring ALL OF HER  home.

<div>Nearly 5,000 Providence healthcare professionals are on strike! This includes nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurse practitioners, physician associates, certified nurse midwives, and other healthcare providers from hospitals and clinics across Oregon.

<div>After being at the bargaining table for more than a year, ONA members voted overwhelmingly to go on strike to fight for patient safety, safe staffing, and competitive wages to recruit and retain frontline health care workers.

<div>This is the largest healthcare workers strike in Oregon history and the first time in Oregon history that doctors have hit the strike line.
</div>

<div>As Providence becomes more corporatized, executives are asking frontline caregivers to spend less time with patients and more time driving up profits which could have a direct impact on you and your family. Striking is never an easy decision but ONA members are tired of business as usual and are standing up and fighting for their patients and the communities they serve.

<div>These last 2 years I have been silently battling a rare terminal cancer.. Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), a high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma.

<div>On May 7th, 2022, the day before Mother’s Day, I walked into the emergency room due to what I thought to be just a normal shoulder injury and walked out diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer along with the doctor’s words replaying in my head, “I hope you have a good support system at home because you’re going to need it, you have a long and hard journey ahead of you.” The doctor than proceeded to tell me that there were multiple tumors that had metastasized to other parts of my body including my skeletal, which is how we were able to find the tumor that was causing my shoulder pain. By that point the damage had already been done. In that moment, mine and my kids’ entire lives had changed forever, as well as all of those around us.

<div>Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there.. On January 17th, 2024, I was diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome. Which has caused me so many other underlying issues such as rapid weight gain &amp; swelling (60+ lbs in a matter of weeks), muscle and bone deterioration, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, Moon Face &amp; so much more! This disease has already taken so much away from me and my family!

<div>Since my diagnosis I have managed to keep working full time, taking only 2 months off in the beginning for surgeries , biopsies, appointments, radiation and chemotherapy treatments. All while still being a full time mama. I do have an AMAZING support system but over time it has put a major financial, emotional, mental and physical toll on us all.

<div>I have been ashamed and embarrassed for people to know the truth, that I have kept this a secret for as long as I could but the physical effects are starting to take control and I can’t hide it any longer. During these next couple of months I need to make sure my kids will be ok after I am gone. I am faced now with the most difficult thing of planning my own funeral. Due to me not being able to work for months now I do not have any finances saved up or any life insurance set aside for this situation. <div>Hi everyone! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Claudia and I’m a mama to 3 beautiful little ones. My first two are 7 and 4 years old. My littlest guy, Santiago, was born in July of this year at only 25 weeks gestation, so he is 5 months actual (amount of time he’s been out in the world) and 2 months corrected (age he would be if he had been born on his due date)

<div>Santiago is a medically complex baby and requires a lot of doctors visits, surgeries, medications and so on, unfortunately this has put a financial strain on my family which is why I need help.

<div>When Santiago was born, he let out a big cry which shocked everyone in the delivery room as it is not common for such premature babies to cry or have that much lung capacity. I knew he’d be a fighter right then and there. Unfortunately, at 3 days of life, I was given devastating news that Santi had suffered massive brain bleeds and was advised to do end of life care. I refused and let my boy fight until he told me he was done. The days went by and the brain bleeds resolved on their own. Unfortunately, they left behind a build up of cerebral spinal fluid in his brain and he required brain surgery to place a ventricular shunt at only 10 weeks of life. Santi continued to recover while still requiring oxygen support. He failed to successfully feed orally so he later required another surgery to place a gastrostomy tube for feeding in his belly. Santi came home and is now requiring laser eye surgery in the next couple of weeks.

<div>This past weekend Santiago began experiencing flu like symptoms and today he felt very cold to the touch and had increased work of breathing so we brought him in to the ED and sure enough, he was in full blown respiratory failure. I don’t have much information right now as to why this is all happening but my sweet boy is intubated and resting for now.

Walker was attempting to cross the street when the incident took place. Walker bled to death on the scene and leaves behind a son, who will have to navigate a life without the nurturing and guidance of his father. My name is Kawan Akil Glover. I am a 23-year-old graduate from the University of Maryland College Park. I studied business finance and now I am a budding financial advisor and business consultant, working to help any and everyone achieve financial freedom through consultation and hands-on advice. Unfortunately, my career is being put on hold because of a recurring issue. In August of 2014, I developed something called a cavernous malformation on my Brain stem which caused me to lose control of my right side motor functions, develop slurred speech, and difficulty swallowing. The mass was discovered and subsequently removed for the most part. I returned to the university about two weeks after recovery, and as any 20 year old would do, I returned to my normal life but my body hadn't been given proper time to heal. I was president of the campus chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, taking a full load, and pursuing opportunities outside the classroom. Due to my incessant work ethic, I was not able to slow down and I suffered a stroke on September 18, 2014. I was rushed to the ER and spent a month at MedStar National Rehabilitation center in inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy. I was released on October 17, 2014, and spent the remainder of the year in outpatient therapy. I turned 21 on December 25, 2014. Following the stint in rehab, I returned to the University and completed a successful spring 2015 semester. Throughout the year I would continue to check in with my neurosurgeon and have MRI's to monitor the status of the malformation. Unfortunately, about September, it was discovered that the mass had regrown and was much more aggressive this time so we slatted a second surgery for October 1st, 2015. The surgery was successful in getting a lot of the mass material out of that small area of "high-priced real estate", and the doctors were happy. The scan did still show something there but not enough to raise alarm. Post surgery recovery was rough and took the rest of 2015 to do so. Constant checkups and MRI's were used to monitor the status. The whole year of 2016 and the first half of 2017 went swimmingly. I returned to physical activity, became independent, and best of all I graduated from Robert H. School of Business and started my career two days later. All seemed to be going according to plan until it wasn't.  Starting on September 9, 2017,  I began having constant headaches accompanied with waves of full body weakness and dizziness. By Thursday, September 14, 2017, I had decided to see my primary care doctor but she was out sick so I went to the ER. The CT and MRI scan showed that I had suffered another hemorrhage in the same area. The neurosurgery team thought it would be best stave off surgery, for now, so I was monitored for two days and sent home. The next day the Headaches got worse, and some new symptoms set in. The left side of my face is numb and nonresponsive, I cannot taste on the left side of my mouth, and the deficits on my right side are returning as I type. I woke up the next morning with double vision and nausea so It was back to the ER. It was discovered that yet another hemorrhage had taken place in the same area. The doctors had done two approaches already and the risks we high for a third entry so we were referred to a skull based specialist at Rutgers University hospital. All of my previous work had been done at  George Washington University Hospital. The doctor is highly qualified and is very confident that he can fix the problem in my brain. The only issue is that his practice does not take my insurance, and thus we would have to pay out of pocket for this procedure. The date is set for October 12, 2017, so time is of the essence. The deficits are getting progressively worse and  I need this procedure finally do away with something that has plagued my life for the last 3 years. Brain Surgery #3- Oct 12! Help Us!

We are the family and friends of Norm Dela Rosa.  If you don’t know already, Norm has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. We are sponsoring this page to help provide medical and financial support as he begins his journey of fighting the battle against this fast-growing disease.<br /><br />For those who don’t know Norm (also known as Snuke), you’d think he is the coolest guy to know.  He has a funny sense of humor that everyone loves, especially the kids.  He’s a professional barber at Fil-Am Hair Design and is one of the best barbers in the area.  He’s also a talented bass guitarist that studied under bass extraordinaire, Anthony Wellington.  Sometimes, in between cuts, you can hear him playing catchy jazz tunes on his bass guitar at his shop located in Fort Washington, MD. <br /><br />Norm is the eldest of 7 kids, and is looked up to as a big brother not only to his siblings, but also to many in our community. He is a father of three children that he would do anything for. He is a loving husband, son, and a favored uncle.  <br /><br />Just before Christmas last year, Norm had noticed a large mass on the side of his neck.  When he went to George Washington Hospital to see Dr. Arjun Joshi, he and his family were shocked to discover he had thyroid cancer that spread to his lymph node. This required him to immediately go through extensive radical neck surgery to have it removed.  It was very difficult for him to eat, talk or even move around afterwards. Knowing his strength had decreased significantly, Norm was determined not to let this hold him back.  He returned to work, against doctor’s orders, less than 2 weeks after his surgery.    <br /><br />Even still, the hardest part is yet to come.  To rid himself completely of the remaining cancerous cells, he will soon have to begin radiation which could last for a few weeks, possibly more.  He will have to be kept away from his family during this time and will be unable to work while he recovers.  Norm works very hard, working all hours of the day to accommodate his clients, and is very dedicated to providing for his family.  However, with him not being physically able to work, it will be difficult to pay this unexpected medical expense as well as the rest of his financial obligations. <br /><br />Norm has focused greatly on taking care of himself in these recent years, especially after finding out he is diabetic.  He quit smoking and drinking, and with the help from his wife, Geneen, has adapted to eating a healthier diet.  He went from 245 to 213 lbs.  So it’s no question his health is something he has taken seriously.  Like us all, he wants to live long and be around for his family.  He had also started exercising more, which in doing so allowed him to discover a new passion for fixed-gear riding and has become an avid cyclist.  This is a hobby he really misses and is determined to get back on once he’s strong again and fully recovers.  <br /><br />Recovering from this is going to require some time though. Norm will have to save all his strength to focus on fighting this and we want him to do it without having to deal with financial worries and stress. Norm has always been so generous to others and willing to lend a hand, even to those he doesn’t know.  Well-known and looked up to by many, he has always looked out for others so now it’s our turn to look out for him.  We know he is a strong man that can get through this, but he’s going to need some help. <strong>Let's set up that vet hospital!!<br /></strong><br />I set up WECare Worldwide in 2014 (UK charity 1162386, Sri Lankan NGO FL-159116) with the aim of providing veterinary care to dogs in need. As a vet, I feel as though no animal in the world should be left to suffer and I wanted to take some steps towards trying to make sure this didn't happen. So, I packed my bags, moved to Sri Lanka and set about my little plan!<br /><br />It's been 2.5 years since I made that decision and it has certainly been an emotional rollercoaster! I started out just picking up a few injured street dogs here and there and either treating them at my house or on the street. I quickly realised that it was all well and good doing the treatments, but I wasn't addressing the bigger issues at hand- the overpopulation of street dogs (3 million in a country the size of Ireland) and the poor education surrounding the subject of animal welfare and community dog care. So, I then started setting up large neutering and vaccination programmes whereby the WECare Team (UK volunteers and SL staff) would neuter and vacc 70 dogs per day, resulting in a huge decrease in the number of unwanted puppies on the streets in our area. We also began carrying out education programmes in schools, community centres and government vet facilities. <br /><br />Anyway, long story short- the workload has massively increased but we are still as broke as ever! Popping back to the UK or Dubai to work as a locum vet raises some funds for us but it also means everything has to grind to a halt whilst I am doing so.  Which is sort of counterproductive and annoying! It's frustrating as we can see the results of our work every day but raising funds to carry it out/make sure the charity is sustainable is tricky. I was fortunate enough to be awarded 'Vet of the Year 2016' at the Animal Heroes Awards and to receive a Point of Light Award from PM David Cameron, which raised awareness but didn't quite bring funds along with it.<br /><br />We hope to set up and run a fully-equipped veterinary hospital on the south coast (the first of its kind outside of Colombo). In a country where there are around 20,000 road traffic accidents involving dogs per year, we certainly need more than the 2 xray machines which are currently on the island (in Colombo). We would also hope to have ultrasound, gas anaesthetic plus all of the other 'basics' that we would see in a UK practice. We feel as though the street dogs deserve the very best and that is what we are here to give them. We don't want to do things by halves.<br /><br />The hospital would serve all street dogs for injuries/illness but also give us a base to carry out daily neutering and vaccination alongside the large, outreach clinics that we do. We would also open up to owned dogs for a fee which would then go straight back into the non-profit hospital. We will use the WECare Hospital as a teaching base as well to provide sustainability and an improved outlook for animals all over the country.<br />I cannot stress how vital this hospital will be in terms of both saving individual lives and also in terms of preventing future problems for the beautiful dogs of Sri Lanka. <br /><br />Please, please help us to set up and run the hospital for a year. The street dogs need us.<br />This video runs through what we do on the island..
