<div>Poor Norman Kent, of Kent's Tailoring Services in Cookham Arcade, is in fear of losing his business, after a rather unscrupulous customer (not from our community thankfully!) took him to the small claims court, in the hope of being compensated for a dress they purchased and didn't like. Unfortunately, due to Norman's ill health, the claim was successful by default, as it wasn't defended in time. He is now fending off bailiffs who are threatening to remove his machinery to the value of £2500. As the machinery is his livelihood, he will likely have to close his business.

<div>The customer brought a dress to him asking him to alter it, which he did to her specification. She tried the changed dress and made no complaint. She later returned and asked him to make further alterations which he said he wouldn't as in his professional opinion would change the shape of the dress, so he didn't charge her for the original work.

<div>It then transpires that the customer was never happy with her original purchase and tried to return the dress to the shop where she bought it, which they wouldn't accept as it has been altered. Seeking a scapegoat for her £800 mistake in purchasing the dress, the customer decided to sue and sought compensation from poor Norman, which then escalated as he had not responded in time due to his ill health.

<div>Poor Norman is devastated. In the 25 years he has been in business in Cookham he has never had a single complaint about his workmanship. He is a Savile Row tailor who has provided a fantastic service to our community, and this would be a dreadful loss to Cookham should we lose his business. He has not been in good health over the last few months and the worry about this has not helping matters.

<div>Although Norman knows this is unjust, he wants to settle the claim and carry on with his life. He has considered a loan, but the CCJ now means that his credit history is decimated.
</div>

<div>I hope that all those who are reading this feel as angry as I do that this can happen to somebody who was just trying to help a customer.
</div>

<div>It would be great if the Cookham community could hopefully assist in correcting a wrong, by helping Norman keep his valued business for many years to come.

These are the funeral details of our hero, Gareth Roberts.<br />The funeral will take place at 10.30am at Llwydcoed crematorium on Wednesday, 29th April. The funeral procession will start at around 09.45 from Gareth's home. We know that some people will be standing on the streets as the procession passes. Thats incredible, and fitting for this gentle hero of a man. Please observe social distancing is all we ask.<br />The funeral will be live streamed as is now common practise at these times. I'd like to put them all together soon to give to Linda and Zac.<br />This is from Steven:<br />Gareth Roberts, RGN<br /><br />Dear Linda, I’m so sorry to hear of Gareth’s death (I went cold and had a shiver when I seen his photo). Gareth looked after me when I had major surgery at Cardiff University Hospital of Wales in 2006 and was very caring professional nurse of the highest standard, nothing was too much trouble for him and he would go over and above that was required by a nurse. He helped my 10 days stay in hospital a lot easier and was personally the best nurse that I have ever had, who was very caring to every patient on the ward and a real Gentleman. I cannot thank Gareth enough and will live in my memory for ever and will be very Badly Missed in the nursing world. It is with Deepest Sympathy to Linda and Family at this unbelievable time that he died trying to help save lives of other people and putting his self at risk. He was an Unbelievable Man. Tributes pour in daily about Gareth and what a marvellous man he was. His photograph has been in mamt publications, the BBC have done an interview and so have ITV. Gareth is a hero. And a husband colleague friend to everyone who had the good fortune to meet him.<br />This tribute from Sophie says it all:<br />"I did my first HCA shift with you all those years ago. You took me under your wing. You did not hesitate too look after me on my first shift and you were with me every step of the way, on what I remember was a difficult shift. You made me feel so welcomed. You were so humble and gracious. I almost felt like I was chatting to an old family friend, despite it being my first shift with you. You taught me so much in such a short period and showed such kindness and respect to everyone. It was so clear that you loved your job and you were so wonderful with the patients.� You were one of those salt of the earth kind of people.� I was in awe of you to be honest and you made me realise that I definitely wanted a career in healthcare. You were a character too! I only knew you briefly, but I have ALWAYS remembered you since. What you taught me, I still do today and will take with me through my career in medicine. I never got to thank you properly, but I want to thank you now. We are almost at double the initial amount first asked for. Nearly £2,000 In less than 24 hours. I will keep the fund going as many people have messaged saying they want to give, but are waiting for pay day. We all know that feeling.<br />It's a terrific response and shows so much lo e and respect for Gareth, Linda, Ceri and Zac. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. For the family of Gareth Roberts, RGN

My daughter Maisie 9 has been told she is a good candidate for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy operation. This is a 3 hour op to relieve the spasticity in her legs from cerebral palsy, with a long hard recovery period, but at a cost of just under £20,000 all in with physio therapy needs post op too. Maisie is a beautiful girl inside and out and really deserves this chance. She is a twin and has to put up with 3 brothers  we are a close family who will pull together to fund raise like mad, but don't want to hit the same people all the time.The twins were born prematurely at 29 wks, hence maisie having cerebral palsy, and has had a lot to contend with in her short life.All she wants to do is be like her twin brother Alfie, climb, jump and run and be able to do things with her piers without mum being in tow.Thank you for reading this ❤️
