<div>We have been focused on community for many years by preserving and promoting our Carolina flying heritage. Although we suffered catastrophic damage from Hurricane Helene, we immediately rose to the occasion and placed priority on helping those in need by clearing space in our hangar to operate a relief center. Through the help of friends, we flew supplies into our airfield and then out to stranded communities and individuals and placed our own needs on hold.

<div>We identified trapped communities and flew generators into them to power a well to provide running water and followed with tools, food, and medical supplies so those areas could form a network and get information back to us as we repeated the process.

<div><strong>We lost nearly everything on the airfield and unfortunately are not covered by insurance for the majority of our losses.</strong> We've always had a small operating budget and put nearly every penny back into creating a space that encourages education and hands-on involvement with the community and access to aviation for the general public. Being that we are a free museum, our funds come from small donations, occasional small aircraft parts and sales, hangar space rental, and one small fundraiser where we offer rides each year. While we find a path forward, our damage and hazards from the storm limit our ability to bring in visitors and receive donations. <strong>With all our tenants losing their aircraft, we are faced with reduced hangar rentals while we repair the hangars that were damaged and repair the airfield.</strong> We have lost our ability to effectively generate operational funds.

Texas Elementary School Shooting Victims Fund

<div>My name is Mandy jo and I am hoping to help someone very special to me. My brother Nikk VanLiew’s heart has been through quite the journey through his 28 years and this last last event was the scariest by far. On February 7th Nikk had an appointment with his Cardiologist because he wasn’t feeling well. Tests confirmed that his newly placed pulmonary valve was failing and he was immediately admitted to Abbott hospital, it was then discovered that he had a severe bloodstream infection. He began a course of IV antibiotics to fight the infection and prepare him for surgery to replace the failing valve. Once surgery began it was discovered that the situation was much more serious then expected. The infection  had surrounded his heart and had caused very serious damage. His amazing surgical team fought for 13.5 hours, replacing his Pulmonary valve, Aortic valve and also used blood vessels from his legs to replace the vessels in his heart that had been destroyed by the infection. Due to the length of his surgery, and the significant loss of blood Nikk was placed on ECHMO so his body was able to rest. For four of the longest days we have ever experienced we waited impatiently. On Monday we got the beautiful news that Nikk was strong enough to breathe on his own and his heart was strong enough no longer need assistance of machines, oh the tears of happiness and gratefulnesses! Nikk has a very long road of recovery, there is no doubt in our minds that he will fight with all of his might as he always has. Nikk is the sole provider of his family, we works so hard to care for his wife Rachael and son Sage Eli. He will be unable to work during his recovery and the medical bills will be significant. I am starting this Go Fund Me in hopes to lighten the financial burden a bit. <div>2021 was especially difficult for Jacob as he was dealt a life changing event when he experienced an embolic stroke following a heart cath surgery. He had many scary and heart wrenching complications during his 6 week hospital stay ranging from pneumonia to fluid build up outside of his left lung which left him extremely weak upon returning home for further recovery. He has been working extremely hard with his PT, OT &amp; speech therapy ever since returning home.

<div>Upon getting back to a semi-recovered state several months later, we went back to Jacob’s cardiologist to address the original issue we had gone in for which was his leaky heart valve and overall enlarged heart which had gotten larger since his last echocardiogram. Jacob’s hypo-plastic left heart condition has left him with a single left ventricle and after much consideration about the risks of repair vs transplant, we consulted with a large team of doctors of all various types to come to the conclusion that Jacob is eligible for and would benefit greatly from a heart transplant.

<div>Our family was initially devastated with the news of a recommended heart transplant, but Jacob and his family are all fighters and don't back down for a chance to do the hard and difficult things in life. After the initial shock wore off, we are all ready for the challenge. We have already been through a lot by living at Randall's Children's hospital for 6 weeks earlier this year, but we can and will accomplish anything we put our minds to!!! We are getting more and more prepared for the upcoming challenges immediately following the transplant as well how much our lives will change afterwards. We will also need to be near by the Seattle area especially post surgery, so planning for accommodations will be challenging to say the least when there is no scheduling for a heart transplant when exactly it will be taking place.

Jacob is the biggest Portland Trailblazers fan and although he was able to see the Blazers play in 2019, he would love the opportunity to meet his NBA Hero, Damian Lillard!!! Jacob loves to watch Dame's appearance on the latest Space Jam: A New Legacy movie playing Chronos. He loves Dame despite being a part of the goon squad. The Dame Dolla songs on the Space Jam: A New Legacy movie soundtrack are a favorite and on repeat when Jacob has control of the tunes. On Monday March 9th, Christina went in to the doctor for a lump that  she had found in her breast in January. <br />On Monday March 16th, she went in for an ultrasound on that breast, Christina and her doctor were sure it was a cyst, given her age and all. The Radiologist who reviewed the US, asked that she get a mammogram as well. After he reviewed the US &amp; Mamo, he came into the room and told her he was very concerned and said he was sure it was cancer. <br />On Tuesday March 17th, she went to the Breast Center in Coon Rapids for a core needle biopsy of the breast and axillary lymph node. <br />On Wednesday March 18th, she got a call saying she has Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and it has spread to her Axillary Lymph Node. <br />On Wednesday March 25th Christina had a Breast MRI and now we wait for those results so that a PET scan can be scheduled, meet with oncology to figure out a treatment plan, meet with a Surgeon and I'm sure lots of other appointments. Christina has been told this will be a long hard road ahead of her and they are going to hit this aggressively do to her age. And now with this coinciding with COVID-19 we will soon be unable to accept typical help like a lunch, meal or even a hug due to her weakened immune system. <br /><br />In an effort to help out during this stressful time with the additional expenses that this dreaded disease burdens people with, we are setting up this account.  If you are able to assist it will go towards medical expenses, loss of income, gas and parking expenses, childcare and much much more. Jesse and Christina would be the last to ask for help but the first ones to help others.<br /><br />Cancer has affected so many lives, young and old. On April 8th, 2021 heaven received one of its most tender hearted angels yet.  Lana was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, aunt and sister. Please help me to survive over the next several months of healing and follow-up appointments before I can safely return to work.<br /><br />In February 2021, I (Stephen Huskey) was diagnosed with Medullary Carcinoma (Cancer of the Thyroid).  This is a rare and possibly very aggressive cancer. It was detected early and 4 weeks later I had a major surgery in which my neck was cut open from ear to ear in order to remove the cancer from my body by removing the thyroid. The surgery was set to take 4-6 hours. There were 60 suspected lymph nodes from both sides of my neck also removed nearly 25 of which were positive for the presence of cancer. The main mass had positioned itself oddly and around the my left vocal chords. At its largest dimension the main tumor was 5 cm or nearly 2 inches wide (For perspective I will say that is larger than two quarters side by side.) The surgery took a total of 12 hours to complete. <br /><br />-Stephen
