<div>Everybody in Philly knows Patti Brett. Whether it’s from her early days working at Upper Darby‘s Tower Theatre, her reputation as one of the original and legendary "Sigma Kids" of David Bowie Young Americans fame, her efforts as the creator of Philly Loves Bowie Week, or her decades behind the bar as the owner of the iconic Doobies at 22nd and Lombard—Patti is a well-known and much-beloved member of our city’s musical and cultural community.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Since January 2017, Philly Loves Bowie has raised tens of thousands of dollars for pediatric cancer research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Patti has spent years celebrating the legacy of David Bowie with tribute concerts, art exhibits, films, and other presentations across the city. It’s a one-of-a-kind annual winter event we all look forward to.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, Patti – always ready to lend a helping hand to others – is now in need of a helping hand herself. Doobie's business took a major hit during the COVID-19 pandemic and closed in 2023, after 46 years as one of the area's most convivial meeting places. Then came a knee replacement surgery and a lengthy stay at a rehab facility. Tragically, she has just received a breast cancer diagnosis—one that will require a complicated surgery alongside prolonged treatment and recovery.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Why We Need Your Help… This journey is going to get very expensive for Patti. We want to ease her burden as she navigates:
</div>
<div>• Medical Expenses: High insurance deductibles for surgeries, treatments, and procedures.
</div>
<div>• Cost of Living: Covering basic bills during a lengthy recovery period.
</div>
<div>• Loss of Income: Giving her the financial breathing room to heal without rushing back to work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are asking all of Patti‘s friends, the Philly music family, and the global Bowie community to pitch in. We have set a fundraising goal of $10,000 to help cover her bills. Please donate and share this post! Some great fundraising events are already in the planning stages for later this summer. Every bit of support will make a difference for Patti as she faces this difficult chapter. Please stay tuned for upcoming live fundraising events.

<div>For many years, David Simpson has been the go-to person to call in all sorts of emergencies, for me and for countless others.
</div>
<div>This is Dave's emergency. He is now facing stage 4 esophageal cancer.
</div>
<div>Dave has helped and inspired many of us. He performed and mixed at Grendel's Lair, JC Dobbs, and many local clubs during Philadelphia's rock &amp; roll heyday.
</div>
<div>Dave has worked as a master blues singer &amp; guitarist, recording engineer and tech support wizard at Sigma Sound Studios, “Touch of Jazz”, and Sorcerer Sound NYC., and most of all as a selfless man who lives to help people in need. Dave was the first act ever booked to play at the legendary Khyber Pass, and the last musician to perform onstage at the original JC Dobbs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All funds raised will support Dave's medical care and enable him to save his home from foreclosure.
</div>
<div>Dave has quietly helped many people for years, giving freely of his money, time, and spirit.
</div>
<div>Now it's his turn.
</div>
<div>Right now, Dave is unable to work as an electrician. But he continues to write and record music in his home studio, collaborating with musicians both locally and remotely to create indelible new songs.

<div><br />
</div>
<div>Dave entered my life a dozen years ago when a friend recommended him for electrical work. He quickly became a close friend and teacher, who has guided me through some of life's greatest challenges. He is always willing to listen, and to share his wisdom and time with people in need. Dave’s relentless positivity, humor, and faith have been a lesson on how to live and love. Then there are the stories! Dave’s unique journey has made him a world-class raconteur. I’m sure that hundreds of us have favorite stories about Dave, so please share in the comments below.

<div>Please donate to help a self-described "busy angel" in his hour of need, and share this fundraiser to maximize its reach and effect. Thank you!

Let's help Big Dave Simpson give cancer the Blues

Hi everyone, I am the innocent motorcyclist who was sitting at a red light minding my own business when out of nowhere i recorded my near death on 11/14/22, I will never again be who I was before that day, my life is now forever changed, I am a photographer who cannot take photographs, I am an active person who now can’t even stand unassisted, every year I run the LA marathon for St Judes children's hospital, now I can’t even walk to my kitchen without being in crippling pain and it taking 20 minutes and I am a motorcyclist with no motorcycle… This “accident” has taken a lot for me, but not my life, and thank God for that…it appears because of the specifics of the “accident“ I will be stuck because sadly the party who caused this mess perished in the crash the car they were driving was stolen. But, luckily for me, my life will go on. If you haven’t already seen the footage and would like a visual of what you just read.: just Google “ Levey PCH “, Thank you in advance for your generosity, anything you can do to help me here would be amazing and greatly appreciated.
