<div>Our son <strong>Cal has Hirschsprung’s disease</strong>, which means a portion of his bowel does not function as it should. When he was about 3 months old, he had surgery to remove part of his colon in hopes of allowing him to use the bathroom regularly. Within his 2 years of life, we’ve been admitted to the hospital countless times due to his inability to produce a bowel movement and had many, many surgical procedures to try minimally invasive techniques.

<div>During our latest surgical procedure, a biopsy of his colon was analyzed, and it was determined that more colon should be removed. However, with his recent sickness, we need to give his colon a break in general. With the help of many specialists we’ve come up with a great surgical plan.
</div>

<div>Cal will be completing a series of surgeries at both MUSC here in Charleston, SC, and Children’s National in Washington, DC:

<div>My wife, Charlotte, is the heart of our family—a devoted mother, a loving partner, and a woman of incredible strength. Over the past three years, she has faced one medical battle after another with courage and grace.

<div>In May 2022, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After months of treatment, we celebrated remission in January 2023. Sadly, the cancer returned in August 2023, leading to another round of treatment and a stem cell transplant in May 2024. We were blessed with remission again—until November 21, 2025, when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

<div>This new diagnosis means more intensive treatment, and it may force her into disability or early retirement. I may also need to take family medical leave to care for her, which would significantly reduce our household income. After years of medical expenses, we are now facing the most difficult financial and emotional challenge yet.

<div><strong><em>We adopted Sam 8 years ago knowing that it would be a challenge (to say the least). </em></strong>We sure couldn’t do it alone. We would need lots of help. We would always need help. But it had to happen. God brought us together.

<div>We were in our mid-40s, without kids, I was (and still am) battling Parkinson’s Disease, April was in graduate school, our income was very modest, we didn’t own a house and realized we probably never would.

<div>And one day we got an adoption request via our adoption agency that there was a 2 week old infant that was born missing most of the left side of his brain. He needed a forever home.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Here’s the math equation that just didn't make sense:

<div><em>A poor couple that would be older-than-normal parents, dad with a progressive neurological incurable disease</em>
</div>

<div><strong><em>+</em></strong><em> A baby that could possibly need continual medical care the rest of his life</em>

<div><em>= Impractical. Irrational. Maybe even impossible. </em>

<div>So we prayed to God. We listened to God. And we obeyed God, in faith. We adopted Sam. It seems God’s math is based more on faith and trust than logic.

<div><strong>Fast forward to today:</strong> <em>Our little Sam is happiness and joy. He brings a smile to others around him. He is a daily reminder of the difficulties of life AND the goodness and grace of God.</em>

<div><strong>Sam is very medically complex: </strong>He was born with a genetic mutation that has caused a long list of physical and developmental issues. He has a rare and severe form of epilepsy (Lennox Gastaut Syndrome) which causes him to have several seizures a week, some lasting up to 30 minutes. He is developmentally delayed with a cognitive level comparable to a 1 ½ year old. He has cerebral palsy, has very little use of his right side, is non-verbal, and is dependent on a tube that sticks out of his stomach for all of his food and water. Sam has hydrocephalus, cerebral vision impairment, spasticity, plus a few more minor conditions. He can only walk a few feet without assistance and spends much of his day in a wheelchair/activity chair or sitting on the floor.

</div>
<div>He’s busy, so we’re busy. He has lots of doctors, a calendar full of appointments, medical procedures and surgeries, plus therapies, a significant amount of time out of school due to his fragile state, and occasional family outings when we can fit them in around his daily medical needs.
</div>

<div>Sam’s diagnoses indicate that he will not grow out of these difficulties, but that life will become more difficult for him.

<div><em>But did I mention that Sam is happiness and joy? He brings a smile to others around him. He is a daily reminder of the difficulties of life AND the goodness and grace of God.</em>
</div>

<div><strong>On the home front:</strong> I’m currently waiting on disability because of my issues with Parkinson’s Disease. April is a stay-at-home mom so that she can take care of Sam. Our current van is 14 years old and needs repairs that would cost more than its listed value.
</div>

</div>
<div>We can’t afford much, but we feel that a good, reliable used vehicle makes more sense than a cheap, undependable van to get us by for a short time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>We’re asking for help in buying a good, used handicap van for Sam. </strong>They ain’t cheap. And we know this is a bold request. But we’ve always known that we were not meant to be on this journey alone. We’re following a call, knowing that we can’t do it on our own. That we’re not supposed to do it on our own. Help is here. That continues to be our faith.

A VAN FOR SAM!  Here's our story of Faith & Joy!

<div>Hi, I'm Allison Hill Thompson and an admin for our local( South Carolina) Bonneau Residential Forum on Facebook. Today one of our community members' 5 yr old son Wyatt, was in a tragic accident involving a lawn mower. He was airlifted from Watermark restaurant here in Bonneau Beach and is currently in surgery at MUSC downtown Charleston SC. At this time, he has lost below the knee on his left leg and half of his left hand as well. He is currently in surgery and will go back in in the morning for more procedures. His father Clint volunteers with the Lake Moultrie Fire Dept and his mother Lorena takes pictures for the local volunteer fire department and donates her time and talent doing this.

<div>This is a LIFE CHANGING event for this child and the family. If you can donate even $1 to help with their medical bills, it will be greatly appreciated.

Child loses leg in tragic lawnmower accident.

<div>At 5am on February 24th, Pavel and Elena were woken up by the bombing of their local airport. They then realized that to continue helping the women and children of Ukraine, they’d have to evacuate them from the front lines. </div><div><br></div><div>They have worked since 2014 to help orphaned children in Ukraine to become a part of loving families. Elena and Pavel adopted 7 children of their own, and realized that their educations as a doctor and lawyer respectively were not sufficient for helping their own children with their psychological trauma. They went back to school to increase their knowledge, and soon found themselves a resource for their friends who also wanted to adopt children. They therefore worked with KidSave and created systems of mentorship for both the children and parents that have helped to end the cycle of orphans in Ukraine. </div><div><br></div><div>However in February of 2022, orphans in Ukraine had to deal not only with the trials of being without a family, but also with the outbreak of Russia’s war. Pavel and Elena received calls from the networks of people they’d helped over the years, asking for their help in escaping the warzones of Ukraine. It was then they decided to risk their own lives to better those of others. </div><div><br></div><div>Pavel: “...our whole team was called angels of hope. But we’re just doing what we think we should for our people, our nation, and our women that we want to save.”</div><div><br></div><div>As of speaking to them on June 7th 2022, they had evacuated 20,000 people and brought 58 tons of humanitarian aid to those still living in the buffer zones between Ukraine and Russia. </div><div><br></div><div>This fundraiser is being organized by members of a class on the Ukraine Crisis at the University of Arizona that had the privilege of talking to Elena and Pavel between their heroic endeavors. We are working alongside the organization KidSave International.  We hope to provide them money for food, fuel, and other resources they need to help on the front lines of the Ukraine crisis. Please help us to further the mission of these angels of hope!</div><div><br></div><div>More information about Kidsave International: Kidsave's Vision is a world where every child is nurtured from birth, where the loss of human potential due to neglect is absent and where people everywhere care enough that all children, even those abandoned, grow up in stable, loving families. Kidsave gives preteens and teens who are living in orphanages temporary foster homes and group homes loving parents and lifelong mentors through family visit and superb mentoring programs. <div>Ken served in the United States Navy and some of the heroic titles he held throughout his life of service included Fire Chief, EMS Director, &amp; Reserve Deputy—but more importantly, he was husband, father, grandpa &amp; friend to all.

<div>Kenny faithfully protected his Berkeley County community, where he was a longtime resident. He briefly worked for St. Stephen Fire &amp; EMS before it was absorbed into Berkeley County EMS, where he retired at the supervisory level after more than three decades. For the last 20-plus years, Kenny also suited up as part of the local thin blue line as a top reserve deputy for Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

<div>In addition to his love of the fire, EMS, and law-enforcement fields, Kenny enjoyed welding, fishing, skiing, beach trips, soaring the skies as a pilot, and spending time with his family. Most importantly, he was a faith-filled man who knew his Savior, Jesus Christ.

<div>Kenny, 57, is survived by his bride of 30-plus years, Debbie, &amp; their three children—Paige, Ashley &amp; Trae, and his three beautiful grandchildren Millie, Gracie and Jaxson.

The first time I met Jo Livingston she was walking into our church followed by a gaggle of sweaty, tired, and giggly children from our youth class. Kind and accepting, the children she helped to influence still speak of her in loving tones. Our children are a piece of our heart and we are careful to whom we entrust them. Jo never took that trust for granted. She has loved every one of them.<br /><br />Right now, a part of Jo’s heart is in a hospital bed. Her son, Gray Livingston, just recently graduated college. He had two promising job opportunities and life was stretching before him. As Gray was driving home the evening of Sept. 7, 2020, he hit a utility pole. Gray’s phone was lost in the crash, and knowing the road he was traveling doesn’t get much traffic and he was miles from home, he put the car in park and got out to walk. Next thing he knew he was being electrocuted by a downed power line.<br /><br />Gray has first, second and third degree burns over 36 % of his body. He is undergoing surgeries to remove dead tissue, graft on new skin, and repair his severely damaged left foot. Through all this, Gray has kept an amazing positive attitude. His parents, Jo and Jimmy, have praised God for sparing him, putting him in capable hands, and according to them, they will continue to give God all the glory; no matter what.<br /><br />While Gray had job interviews lined up, he is currently unemployed and without insurance due to a gap in coverage. With a journey of healing ahead of him, he also has the cloud of hospital bills. So many hospital bills. I can’t begin to estimate them. Yet, so much opportunity to help.<br /><br />Please join me in helping Gray stay focused on healing. Every donation will be received with gratitude and humility.

Chuck Holmes’ daughters are suffering the loss of their dad who passed away unexpectedly on April 23, 2020. Chuck was a hard working guy who spent his entire adult life working as a Bartender, or as a Bar / Restaurant Manager. Chuck wanted to be cremated and had one wish – and that was for his ashes to be made into a diamond for each of his girls to wear. This is an effort to help raise the money for his girls to close the gap, and grant their Dad’s wishes, as well as leave them a part of him they will cherish forever. This will be a constant reminder of how much their dad loves them and will help ease the pain of losing their dad as his wishes are as important to them as their memories. We appreciate any help you are willing to provide to make Chuck's wishes a reality for Hayleah and Brooke.

My sister and brother in law, Teri Bradshaw and Chris Bradshaw, and their family along with 3 dogs, lost everything due to a tornado this morning. Several trees went through her roof. Luckily everyone escaped with only minor injuries. The rebuilding process will be tough. Thanks

Alan Smith also known as Aj was killed in a hit and run motorcycle accident on hwy 402 last night. He leaves behind his 3 little boys, his wife, mother, sister, nieces and nephews <span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">and many other family members who absolutely loved him. During this time we are trying to raise money for proper funeral expenses and money to help his wife and children during this terrible time in their life. It is so very unfair that his wife and children have to feel this pain. My dear friend - and yours, Theresa Austin Reeves was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma - Stage 4 December 7, 2017.  I am blessed to be writing to you a year + later! <br /><br />As many of you know she has been let go from the clinical trial and has restarted her chemotherapy.  Although it's been a rough go, she is the warrior she claimed to be only a year ago.  God has been so faithful to Theresa and Paul.  At every turn, at every roadblock, there have been answers and blessings.  My hardest moments are when it's a setback and then Theresa sends a Caring Bridge Update that inspires me beyond belief and beyond my faith. She is my blessing. <br /><br />I know the loss of work time, continuing medical bills and general support is taking a toll on Paul, Theresa, Caleb and Clancey.  I'm asking for your support in prayer and in contributions.  Either/or - as you understand your prayers are priceless.<br /><br />Thank you for the support that has been given.  There are so many God moments that Theresa has shared with me.  It blows me away when she tells me about the amount of love given to her and her family.  <br /><br />Theresa posted this scripture a year ago....<br /><br />"Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you." Last night, a house fire destroyed nearly everything we own.Our sweet dog Bronaugh did not make it. <br />Thank you to friends, neighbors, and strangers for the outpouring of love, support, and generosity. Thank you to our first responders who did all they could to save our house and our pup. Sadly, they could not revive our beloved "B-girl." Our house is a total loss. <br />We will be stronger from this.
