Ada, my friend's daughter, recently developed some concerning symptoms that led her family to rush her to the ER. After a series of tests, doctors discovered a mass and swelling in Ada’s brain stem. The news was devastating—her condition is not operable, and the family is now faced with heartbreaking decisions about her care. They can pursue radiation to give Ada a little more time, or bring her home to keep her comfortable. Throughout all of this, Ada’s dad wants nothing more than to stay by her side, but taking time off work is a financial challenge they cannot afford.

My wife stays home to care for our kids and our dogs, who are just as much as part of our family as anyone else in our home. One of those dogs is our beloved golden retriever, Willow.

<div>Willow has been a constant source of joy and love in our lives. She's gentle, loyal, loving, and has grown up alongside our children. A few days ago, she suddenly started acting off-lethargic, refusing food, and just not herself. We rushed her to the vet and were devastated to find out she had a foreign  object lodged in her small intestine. It turned out to be a rock, and she had to be taken into emergency surgery right away.

<div>We thought the worst was over, but during surgery Willow aspirated and developed pneumonia. She also had a backed up bladder where they had to put a catheter in, to relieve days worth of urine. The rock did a lot of damage anywhere it passed through before it got stuck. She's been fighting hard since. She did get to come home yesterday, and we were hopeful to start her recovery but today things have taken a turn. She's been vomiting non stop and is now being rushed back to the emergency vet.

<div>The emotional toll has been very heavy, and the financial burden is growing quickly. So far, we've paid $8,600 out of pocket- and the bills are still coming. We're doing everything we can, but we're reaching a point where we need help.

<div>Anybody who knows me, knows that I am a very reserved, quiet and private person. I have always been independent and I am used to doing everything on my own for me and my children. So, please understand that it is hard for me to put my personal business out there today and to finally ask for help..

<div>These last 2 years I have been silently battling a rare terminal cancer.. Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC), a high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma.

<div>On May 7th, 2022, the day before Mother’s Day, I walked into the emergency room due to what I thought to be just a normal shoulder injury and walked out diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer along with the doctor’s words replaying in my head, “I hope you have a good support system at home because you’re going to need it, you have a long and hard journey ahead of you.” The doctor than proceeded to tell me that there were multiple tumors that had metastasized to other parts of my body including my skeletal, which is how we were able to find the tumor that was causing my shoulder pain. By that point the damage had already been done. In that moment, mine and my kids’ entire lives had changed forever, as well as all of those around us.

<div>Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there.. On January 17th, 2024, I was diagnosed with Cushing Syndrome. Which has caused me so many other underlying issues such as rapid weight gain &amp; swelling (60+ lbs in a matter of weeks), muscle and bone deterioration, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, Moon Face &amp; so much more! This disease has already taken so much away from me and my family!

<div>Since my diagnosis I have managed to keep working full time, taking only 2 months off in the beginning for surgeries , biopsies, appointments, radiation and chemotherapy treatments. All while still being a full time mama. I do have an AMAZING support system but over time it has put a major financial, emotional, mental and physical toll on us all.

<div>I have been ashamed and embarrassed for people to know the truth, that I have kept this a secret for as long as I could but the physical effects are starting to take control and I can’t hide it any longer. I’ve never been good at accepting or asking for help but unfortunately, I believe I’ve come to a point in my life and health where that is no longer an option for me. I am no longer able to physically work which has put a major financial burden on me.

<div>UPDATE: September 18th, 2024 I had a Dr. Appointment with my oncologist. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given the best news. Due to my prognosis, I have decided to discontinue treatments as they will no longer help. I have been given 3 months to live. 3 months to spend with my babies and loved ones. 3 months to make the best of what time I have left. During these next couple of months I need to make sure my kids will be ok after I am gone. I am faced now with the most difficult thing of planning my own funeral. Due to me not being able to work for months now I do not have any finances saved up or any life insurance set aside for this situation. I have looked into the expenses and I am needing to raise about $5,000 to ensure funeral costs are covered plus I’m wanting to leave something behind for my babies.

<div>My name is Abby and I am writing this on behalf of my older brother, Tyler. Back in June of this year, he began having some stomach discomfort, leading him to multiple GI doctors and treatments. After a few months of no relief and consistent symptoms, we were all confused as to what could be going on and the lack of success with any kind of medication. Earlier this month and the day after Tyler’s 30th birthday, he checked himself into the emergency room for the pain. After a CT scan, he was told there was a high chance that he had some kind of cancer and was recommended to have a scope done of his stomach to see further. His endoscopy revealed a large tumor at the bottom of his esophagus. Esophageal cancer at age 30. This was news no one was expecting and that has completely rocked our family’s world.

<div>This type of cancer is incredibly rare in young people, very aggressive and for Tyler is a complete surprise. Our family has decided to think of Tyler as a statistic of 1. We know that his age and health will be great assets to his fight with this cancer. And we know and trust in a God far above any statistic!

<div>Tyler is a high school social science and leadership teacher in Livermore Ca. He has been at his school for 6 years now and is a student favorite on campus, winning student-voted awards every year. He was a month away from finishing his Masters in Educational Leadership when his diagnosis was received. He is the best friend that I know, the oldest of 4 kids and the oldest of a cousin crew of 15. He is his grandmas favorite grandchild (and none of the other grandkids mind, because he’s our favorite too). He loves the Raiders and the A’s, Lord of the Rings and golfing with friends on the weekends. He leads our family with fun energy, an amazing sense of humor and a stability that grounds us all. He is a follower of Jesus Christ and is trusting in God not just for a miracle, but for comfort, strength and grace to make it through each day of this battle. He has been in immense pain since this all started and we are hopeful that his pain will be better managed so he can fight with all he has.

<div>I created this account because Tyler has multiple treatments to be facing. We are praising God that he not only can receive chemotherapy, but also immunotherapy, to help his immune system fight the cancer from within. All of this treatment will be of great cost to Tyler, and hoping that it is successful, we are preparing that these will only scratch the surface of what he will need down the road.

<div>In April 2022 Nikki was diagnosed with a very rare and VERY aggressive cancer called "Uterine Leiomyosarcoma” (ULMS). She had emergency surgery in Spring 2022 to remove the cancer but in March 2023, scans showed this aggressive and nasty cancer had returned.
</div>

</div>
<div>Because LMS does not usually respond to hormonal treatments and chemotherapeutic agents or radiation treatments are often inadequate, Nikki has been forced to seek alternative (and usually expensive) additional therapies. Although she has insurance, much is not covered. For example, every trip to the physician is $375—and she has a lot of visits to face. In March of 2023, Nikki chose a 3 week treatment program to prepare her for necessary lifestyle changes and essential cancer fighting treatments at Hope 4 cancer in Tijauna Mexico. After a 6 month roller coaster ride, she recently returned from her 6 month follow up at Hope4Cancer (H4C) with encouraging news. Nikki continues to find hope in Tijauna alongside with her Emory oncologist and natural-path at home.

<div>Nikki will return to Hope4Cancer in March of 2024. In her continuous fight, She has a goal of putting this beast to sleep.
</div>

<div>The financial burden is continuous as our relentless hardworking friend continues to put in as many hours as possible.

Ybarra family fund

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the unexpected passing of our colleague and friend Scott Kinney.  He had been a valued member of our team since November 13, 1995 and will be sorely missed. The family will hold a private service for Scott in the coming days.  <br /> <br />I'm hoping and expect we can have an Epic team celebration of his life once COVID-19 restrictions allow.  We all have great memories of Scott, his fun personality and all his uniqueness.  As a group, we should share and remember those memories to grieve this loss and salute our fallen friend.  This is a tough one for us all and I know we will love and support each other as we go forward.  <br /> <br />Please keep Scott’s wife, Ann and his two children, Ryan and Emily in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time. Scott Kinney Memorial

Sadly, on the evening of August 4th, my mother passed away due to unexpected complications. We are so grateful for the community that has surrounded us and the help we have received. At my mother's request, she will be buried. If you knew my mom, you knew she loved nature, often going for long walks and swimming far out. We have found a beautiful natural burial ground for her and hope to lay her to rest soon. It is not a traditional cemetery but more of a nature preserve owned by a Catholic monastery in Conyers, GA. Again, we can never truly express our gratitude for everyone's generosity. Any past and future donations will be used to pay for a modest burial among the trees, flowers, and animals she so loved. <br /><br />.<br />.<br />.<br /><br /><br />In mid-March, at the start of the Corona quarantine, my mother was taken to Emory Decatur Hospital (formerly Dekalb Medical) after she was found incapacitated on the floor of my sister's home. At Emory, doctors placed her in an induced coma in order to relieve her seizures while they scrambled to determine what was wrong. She remained in the ICU for several weeks and in the hospital for almost two months. It was a scary time. Not only was her recovery a slow and unsure one, but no one could be with her. We could not hold her hand or speak face to face with the amazing doctors and nurses who helped her. We waited by the phone and hoped. She was moved in and out of the ICU several times, but thankfully she pulled through. Although her recovery has been a slow one, she has made great improvements and is becoming stronger every day. Unfortunately she still needs care outside the hospital, so the staff at Emory had her moved to an expensive care facility. While in the hospital she developed a serious respiratory infection (not COVID) and has been unable to kick it. She requires an oxygen machine to help her breathe and needs nurse assistance.<br /><br />We are so thankful that she is recovering, but we are asking for your assistance so she can stay in the care facility and continue receiving the help and treatment she needs while we sort out her Medicaid and disability applications. He is survived by his mother, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren who are still processing the tragic loss of their family member. Unfortunately, Charles did not have a will or life insurance to help cover his final expenses, so the heartbreak of their family member is made more difficult by the need to financially cover this sudden tragedy. **UPDATE**<br /><br />When it rains, it pours.<br /><br />After a visit to my PCP (Primary Care Physician), I mentioned diminished lung capacity and the inability to breathe deeply. My PCP ordered an X-ray, which found a spot in my right lung. He then ordered a chest CT scan which revealed a bilateral pulmonary embolism.<br /><br />This landed me in Kaiser Urgent care with my first ever ambulance ride straight to Northside Hospital for another near week-long stay in the hospital.<br /><br />This visit included a bronchoscopy and the discovery that my right embolism has turned into an infarction; tissue death due to inadequate blood supply. During my stay, I was on a heprin drip with daily Lovenox shots.<br /><br />This means I originally had one clot in my ankle which broke into four separate clots; one DVT and two embolisms with one infarction for a total of five blood clots. I can't do anything halfway, it seems.<br /><br />I was also suffering from metabolic acidosis and low blood oxygen, which required specialized liquids on my IV tree.<br /><br />The course of treatment remains the same; I am going to remain on blood thinners for 6-12mo.<br /><br />Sean and I did not budget for this stay, and have made the decision to reopen the GoFundMe for any additional support our local community is willing to offer us during this time.<br /><br />As always, we are thankful for your continued love and support.<br /><br />If you share, please share with my original post, as it contains the reason for the reopening of this campaign.<br /><br />**<br /><br />In late September of 2017, I came down with what I believed to be the flu. Unfortunately for me, it turned out to be an acute and aggressive form of Crohn's that wasn't formally diagnosed until February 2018.  Between those two dates, however, I was hospitalized four times and saw various gastroenterologists over the span of twelve appointments at Emory University Hospital. <br /><br />My symptoms were so severe that I was constantly dehydrated and in constant need IV fluids and electrolytes. In the span of two months, I'd lost 44lbs. At the start of all of this, I weighed 155lbs.<br /><br />No one was quite sure what they were seeing, because my colonoscopy and endoscopy were both inconclusive:<br /><br />Patches were found in my stomach, my lower bowels were inflamed and smooth (they should be textured like a shag carpet and instead looked like smooth linoleum), I had an ulcerative patch, and a polyp.<br /><br />I had no definitive symptoms, inflammation markers, nor the chronicity expected for diseases like Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Celiac Sprue, or Crohn’s Disease. Autoimmune Enteropathy became the diagnosis of choice for the lack of tell-tale signs, a rare and degenerative autoimmune disease typically found in infants.<br /><br />My third specialist decided to treat me with a biologic, Remicade, that treated both Crohn's and Autoimmune Enteropathy beautifully. She insisted that it didn't matter what I had because right now our focus had to be getting my inflammation and symptoms under control.<br /><br />However, as luck would have it, I lost my job and my incredible insurance, which had been my only lifeline. My spouse, Sean, placed me on his insurance during open enrollment, however, I wasn't able to see a new doctor until January. I was able to secure a job working from home, which has kept our heads just above water.<br /><br />My new doctor formally diagnosed me with IBS and Crohn's Disease in Feburary, where I started my Remicade treatments. However, these treatments alone weren't working and my symptoms were continuing to worsen rather than improve. A second colonoscopy and endoscopy revealed Crohn's activity present in my ileum, spreading further into my small bowels, and crawling into my duodenum. I have since started dual therapy with a 6MP. This development to my treatment came a little late, however.<br /><br />I was hospitalized overnight four times in the Kaiser Urgent care facilities due to severe electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. During one visit, my calcium, phosphorous, potassium, and magnesium were so low that I couldn't feel my face, my larynx was so constricted it changed my voice, my hands curled shut, and I couldn't walk on my own feet anymore. In addition to these hospitalizations, I had two extended hospitalizations at Northside Hospital; one in March, and one this month.<br /><br />This latest visit was the most dire. I weighed 95lbs, I could barely walk or stand unassisted, my vision was black and spotty, and I couldn't keep food or water down. The week preceding this visit is blurry and I don't remember much of it. However, I was so lethargic and immobile that I developed what later turned out to be a DVT in three separate clots; it started out in my ankle, and broke off into my knee. At this point I was so accustomed to feeling poorly that my swollen and puffy leg didn't even register with me.<br /><br />After my friend took me to my nutritionist appointment, I was informed I was in such a state of malnutrition and starvation that the only thing to be done for me was to hospitalize me and receive total parenteral nutrition and lipids via IV. I was admitted to Northside that day where I stayed for a week receiving round the clock care.<br /><br />While my life has come to a standstill, the world around me has not. Rent continues to be due, bills continue to be paid, and medical bills continue to pile up. In order to repair my health, I need help repairing my/our day to day life. I am currently far too sick to return to my job, and I have no options for short term disability. Without dual income, Sean and I will be completely destitute.<br /><br />My physical therapy depends entirely on how much I can eat to fuel my body. Even when utlizing the options of the hospital to reduce my bills, we are faced with mountains of debt we are unable to climb. And it doesn't appear they are going to get any smaller. We need help if I am going to be able to heal and get myself healthy again so that I can return to work with full function instead of trying to work too soon and setting myself back. I don't know how long this is going to take, but the stress of not knowing how we are going to pay our bills keeps me awake at night. <br /><br />Anything you are willing to give will help us because it's more than what we have now. Assistance for Sarah's Recovery

Just after midnight on Friday, April 27, the house of beloved Dunwoody High School teacher and coach, Jermaine Searles, caught fire. His wife and family (and dog) were all able to get to safety but the house has been declared a total loss.   <br /><br />Coach Searles (as he is known to his 9th grade boys basketball team) led the team to its first ever 6-7A regional championship this year. He is also in his 2nd year at DHS as an Interrelated math teacher and just completed his masters degree in Special Education. He loves his Dunwoody High School students and athletes.<br /><br />We are starting this Go Fund Me page to help them get back on their feet and to show support as they navigate this journey. His family has expressed such gratitude for the Dunwoody community rallying around them during this difficult time.

Tom was involved in a <a href="http://www.folsomtelegraph.com/article/2/21/17/serious-accident-closes-folsom-auburn-road-over-weekend" target="_blank">head-on collision</a> on February 18th while on his way to coach his Little League team.  He suffered many injuries, including severe brain trauma.  Sadly, Tom has lost his battle to stay alive as a result of his injuries.<br /><br />Tom's family and many friends have helped in countless ways to offer comfort and support. AVHS gave to me academically and through another passion of mine - sports and being an athlete. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to play several sports at AVHS including volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track &amp; field. In college, I played volleyball and track &amp; field. I have a life time of amazing memories created with my fellow teammates, their friends and family, coaches and the community that supported us. My mentors and those who guided me were my teachers and coaches. <br /><br />I believe that sports can be a very important element to helping children grow up well rounded. Our children playing sports will experience the joy and hardship of teamwork, learn to respect authority and rules, understand the importance of discipline, build relationships, study hard to keep up their grades, have fun, and get exercise. <br /><br />In high school sports at AVHS today, a fee is due from each athlete to fund the programs. It is not mandatory because it can't be by regulation but it is needed to support the program. Without the fee, sporting programs may not be sustainable. Unfortunately, sports can be costly - equipment, uniforms, transportation, tournament fees, etc. add up quickly. While public funding has been cut, I'd like to raise money for the AVHS Athletic Boosters (girls softball program or a sport of your choice) to help sustain the athletic programs and give children the opportunity to experience a high school sport and be a member of the team. This campaign is to raise money for Trevor Johnson and his family. Trevor was in a serious accident on his way to football practice. There were 4 boys in the vehicle when a van/truck ran a stop sign and T-Boned their truck. All 4 were injured, however Trevor's is very critical. He has a bleed on his brain, a broken neck, sterum, clavical, ribs, both hips and pelvis. This money will help with travel expenses to and from Children's of Birmingham, hotel and food cost. A gentle princess with eyes that sparkle and a smile that warms your heart! Even though it has only been a short time since the diagnosis, she has truly proven how brave and courageous she is --- she has met and tackled every challenge. <br /><br />Care for a child with a brain tumor is most definitely a team effort, with surgeons and oncologists working together to devise the best treatment plan based on the specific tumor type. The tumor was removed on Sunday, December 13th during a 6 hour surgical procedure. Kris will have to  undergo a long recovery process in the hospital which will acrue a large hospital bill. He currently works as an officer with Clermont Police Department to serve his community. Welcome to the <strong>gofundme</strong> page of <strong>Grace Wilkinson</strong>. Gracie is a beautiful, faithful and energetic 11 year old little girl who has endured <strong>89 brain surgeries</strong>. She has Multi-Loculated Hydrocephalus, Non-communicating Hydrocephalus with an Epidural Hygroma due to a CSF leak that took a year to heal. <br /><br />Grace has also suffered a stroke because one of her last surgeons left a piece of gel foam in her brain to stop a bleed when they knicked a vein during a brain surgey.   After a fight to regain her left side movement back from being paralized she has done very well with her PT and OT goals.  <br /><br />Gracie has a shunt system with two catheters  in her brain that are y'ed together with an anti-siphon device.  Along with that system she has two stents in her brain to keep both sides connected flowing together. That was a necessity because she kept on loculatiing; that is where cycsts keep forming inside her ventricles trapping CSF fluid and blocking things off from one side to the other so we created a pathway to each side for her.  <br /><br />Her skull is pieced together with titanium plates and screws due to many craniotomies and issues with high pressure leaks that actually led a piece of her skull to pop off under high pressure.  We recently were told by her new surgeon the way it was done was not the way it should have been done and our daughter was subjected to much more than necessary.  WHICH brings me to this next bit of NEWS....<br /><br />We recently  found a  WISE top notch, very sought after surgeon, thank God! He is a God send and has an amazing history in complex cases...I am forever grateful to the Lord for guiding us to him.  He has a freestanding practice and is well known with-in his field.  Hiscolleagues and staff out do themselves all the time and I am so happy my girl is there.<br /><br />Grace recently has added 3 new specialist to her list of docs. Sad part is we have discovered she is totally blind in her peripheral vision in her left eye and almost totally in her right.  All caused by careless acts of her prior surgeon.  <br /><br />Insurance won't pay for anything they say are considered disposables, they won't cover specialists if they are out of network if they "feel" she could use an adult doctor. I have to fight against them daily to get what Graace deserves. We don't have pediatric specialist in our insurance network so we must travel which is NOT covered.  <br /><br />Gracie's Port meds and sterile needles and supplies are not covered...those scripts are filled and when they are added up when they are filled close to $1500 out of pocked which my insurance will not cover.  BUT if she does not have PORT care she can clot get ill, infected, die. <br /><br />They admit, Grace is disabled...has the needs, but insurance won't cover them. We are forced to pay out of pocket.  <br /><br />Grace has been life flighted more than once and each time that is NOT covered. This was not an elective thing we just decided to do. We HAD to save our daughters life.  They refuse to cut out bill in half unlesswe have a LARGE sum to put down. We make payments but the undaunting amount of 36 grand and two of them at that is a tad overwhelming. <br /><br />Grace Just had number 89 brain surgery and once again we are facing uncertainty.  Brain surgery 90 is coming up...with a spinal leak and some back issues from a prior surgery where her prior surgeon took more bone from her spine because they broke a catheter off in her back from a lumbar drain and lost the tip in her spine...we are now faced with a spinal surgery to repair Gracie's back. <br /><br />The only thing we do know is <strong>we believe in miracles</strong>. My girl suffers insurmountable pain daily and<strong> I will never stop fighting for her.  <br /><br /></strong>I am tired of not asking for help and I am tired of being prideful. We need help.
