<div>Hi everyone it is with a very heavy heart that I am reaching out to everyone for our friends Phil Thibodeau and Tammy Nelson. Late last month, Phil was taken to the hospital for a horrible headache, and after many hours of wondering what was going on, Phil was told the horrible and life-changing news that he had stage 4 Malignant Glioma. This is a very aggressive form of brain cancer with a tumor that grows at a rapid pace and is terminal and incurable. This diagnosis comes with a short life span, and hopefully, with chemo and Radiation, Phil will continue to grace us with his amazing presence for a little while longer.

<div>With such sudden and devastating news, only some are prepared for the severe economic impact this has on a family. À la fin du mois dernier, Phil a été emmené à l'hôpital pour un horrible mal de tête, et après de nombreuses heures à se demander ce qui se passait, Phil a appris l'horrible nouvelle qui a changé sa vie : il souffrait d'un gliome malin de stade 4. Il s’agit d’une forme très agressive de cancer du cerveau caractérisé par une tumeur qui se développe à un rythme rapide, qui est terminale et incurable. Ce diagnostic s'accompagne d'une courte durée de vie et, espérons-le, avec la chimio et la radiothérapie, Phil continuera à nous honorer de son incroyable présence pendant encore un peu de temps. Face à une nouvelle aussi soudaine et dévastatrice, seuls certains sont prêts à affronter les graves conséquences économiques que cela aura sur une famille. <div>It is with great sadness that we share the news of our beloved two and half-year-old Weimaraner Livi. Unfortunately, she has come into tough times, and we are uncertain of the outcome at this moment, but it is our duty as her pet parents to give her a fighting chance.
</div>

<div>If you know Livi, you know she is a loving, affectionate and extremely active dog. She lives for the fetch, is no stranger to relaxing cuddles and loves to meet new friends.
</div>

<div>Here are the cards that she's been dealt.

<div>She began losing control of her hind legs on December 10th. We took her to the vet and were sent back home with pain meds. After giving her meds, we noticed her losing coordination Sunday morning. She required help to use the bathroom and eat. Without her medication, she would shake in pain, but we were instructed to skip her night dose to see if her balance improved. It did not, and she lost the complete function of her limbs and went into paralysis.

<div>We took her back to the vet again Monday morning and waited in fear to be seen by a neurologist. On Tuesday morning, she finally had an MRI, and spinal tap, and the doctor told us her brain was swelling due to infection or immune-mediated disease.
</div>

</div>
<div>Working with the veterinarian, we've obtained some direction regarding her aggressive treatment and recovery. It has given us some hope, but the situation has put us in a financial position that is becoming out of reach.
</div>
<div>We are upwards of $6000 in, just with diagnosis, and their estimates show that treatment and further testing will put us north of $10,000.
</div>

<div>Livi is our baby, and we will do everything to keep her on this planet. Asking for money is very uncomfortable, but we are most worried about Livi's comfort. We are lucky to have a support system that includes our family, friends and community, which gives us optimism that we will get through this.
</div>

<p>This GoFundMe page has been set up by Alejandro Samper and is dedicated solely to raising funds for the creation of a NOT-FOR-PROFIT organization  aimed at transforming the Lapu-Lapu tragedy into making a meaningful, positive impact in our community.

<p>This initiative is my way of honoring the legacy of my mother, Glitza Maria Caicedo Samper (Bachita), father, Daniel Samper, and sister, Glitza Daniela Samper (Nena)—who each had a deep passion for helping others.
</p><br />
<p> Through this foundation, their spirit of love, generosity, and service will continue to live on. In the face of unimaginable loss, I am choosing to honour my family not through anger or hate, but through love, compassion, and service—because that is what they taught me. I believe our society needs more places of refuge, love, and hope. And I will need the support of my community to bring this vision to life. 
</p><br />
<p>My sister, Glitza Daniela Samper (Nena), Glitza Maria Caicedo Samper (Bachita), and Daniel Samper were tragically taken from us on April 26th, 2025, at the Lapu Lapu Festival, a day celebrating Filipino culture and resistance. We had immigrated from Colombia to Canada, where we became citizens and have lived for the past 24 years. They loved to spend time together at cultural events around the city that celebrated the diversity of Vancouver. 
</p><br />
<p>We are a family that loved each other immensely. Besides myself, Bachita, Daniel, and Nena have left behind many cousins, uncles and aunts, and friends who are deeply heartbroken and impacted. 
</p><br />
<p><i>My Family</i>
</p>
<p><b>Bachita (Glitza Maria) </b>– my mother, was my hero, my emotional anchor, and my greatest supporter. She was known for her contagious joy and radiant smile. Even with limited means, she gave generously to friends and family in Colombia and Canada, donating her hard-earned money to anyone who needed it. She had a deep love for animals, treating them with the same tenderness and devotion she gave to the people in her life. She taught me to always choose the path of unconditional love, forgiveness, and respect, no matter the circumstances. 
</p><br />
<p><b>Daniel </b>– my father, was my guide, my protector, and my best friend. He was brilliant and compassionate, honest and full of integrity. Everything he did was to improve the lives of our family—we were his world, and he was the glue that kept us together. His unwavering dedication to keep us united showed me how important it is to come together in difficult times. My father was passionate about learning new things in many different areas—science, politics, physics, mathematics, and computers—he had a strong interest in staying informed about the world around him. He instilled honesty, patience, and perseverance in me, showing me how to stay determined in achieving my goals, even when the odds are against me. My father was always there for me—I knew I could always rely on him, and still today, he continues to guide me. 
</p><br />
<p><b>Nena (Glitza Daniela) </b>– endlessly curious and easily moved by the beauty in people and the world around her. She made new friends easily and welcomed so many people into her life—seeking and sharing wisdom, and building a sense of purpose and connection wherever she went. A fierce protector of my parents and I, she held our family together during our darkest days. My sister was an artist—she was constantly painting, drawing, making things. She expressed love through art too: she made her friends and family countless handmade gifts: cards with her ethereal illustrations, notes with handwritten messages, and many other artifacts to show us how much she cared. Her presence was always inviting, and she made us feel seen, valued, and loved.
