<div>I have had the joy and privilege of working these past two years directly with Chris Luck. He is witty, well-connected, and has years of experience working with clients on claims as their advocate. For those of you who may not have heard, our friend and colleague Chris Luck had a severe stroke on 10/25/22. He was not feeling great the week prior and got checked out at a hospital in FL where he was working with clients on recovering properties after Hurricane Ian. For those of you who know Chris, he was pretty much the energizer bunny on steroids. For some, this may be the first time you are hearing or seeing this. For obvious reasons, the family needed time to gain some perspective on Chris’s future while he was in the ICU in Bangor.

<div>Chris is a well-known industry legend having worked years on the brokerage side, constantly influencing those involved in claims and supporting clients. In the past two years, he was always on the move, meeting and greeting others while sharing new industry solutions as the “Chief Evangelist” for GRS Disaster Response. Since his road to recovery will be a tough one, and certainly one where he will need to rehabilitate at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston for an extended period, we felt that setting up a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses and other affiliated expenses would be a good start. <div>On June 25, 2024, our lives changed forever. That morning we found our dad unconscious at home. He had suffered a severe stroke and was rushed into emergency surgery. The doctors could only remove part of the blood clot, and they warned us that recovery would be long and difficult.
</div>

</div>
<div>Since then, our dad has faced one battle after another being non verbal, feeding tube, catheter, blind and paralyzed on the right side of his body, he spend weeks in the ICU, dialysis, multiple hospitalizations, therapy, and seizures.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Along the way, he was also diagnosed with heart failure and kidney disease. Despite it all, he has shown incredible strength, and we have cherished every smile, every word, and every small step of progress.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For more than a year, he has needed 24-hour care. Our grandmother, at 73 years old, has been by his side caring for him with unconditional love, but it has been overwhelming and difficult. In recent months, his health has declined further.
</div>

<div>We never imagined having to write these words, but we are now facing the reality of preparing for our dad’s departure. His health continues to worsen, and doctors have told us to be prepared.

<div>Just last night 9-3-2025, our dad went into cardiac arrest. He is currently on life support. After reviewing his condition, the doctors have recommended hospice care, as his health continues to decline. They explained that continuing aggressive treatments would only cause him more pain and suffering.

In Loving Support of Oscar’s Memory.

<div>Hi my name is Alia, some of you might know me from social media, from the ballroom scene in montreal, or even from university and school. If you've been following me you have seen my journey the past years transitioning into the woman I am today. Growing up in Jordan to come to canada at 18 years old to find myself was not easy. I lost friends, my family, and my financial supports. Yet,  I gained the most beautiful thing in the world, to be comfortable in my own identity and be free. Life finally started making sense the moment that estrogen pill touched my body. Transitioning empowered me to love myself and to continue school where I am now  working as a lab scientist at the hospital researching HIV and infectious diseases. I have gained true family by choosing me, and I am walking everyday living my true self head high doing things that most trans women just 10 years ago never dreamt of,  let alone a Palestinian Jordanian trans woman.

<div>While my battle with gender dysphoria has been a bit rough, I remain hopeful and grounded in knowing my highest self is within me. Hormone replacement therapy has helped heal a lot of the dysphoria within me however, some things I can only achieve through surgery. I have my first facial feminisation surgery booked on October 14th here in Montreal. I have been receiving aid through a scholarship from the government due to my academic achievements which has helped me save up for the surgery. Unfortunately, I was not given an exemption from my tuition for the last year of my Masters which is at an international student rate at around 12,727 CAD for the fall semester. While I planned to have a bit of tuition debt until the end of next semester to cover my surgery costs, I have come to realize recently that not paying my fall semester in full prevents me from registering in the Winter semester. If I get the surgery and remain in debt to McGill, I risk being deported back to Jordan where my safety is at risk.

<div>.The surgery is a Septorhinoplasty and costs around 12,750 CAD. I have already paid 2.75 K through gender affirming insurance. If I go on with my surgery as scheduled I will have a tuition debt of around 3500 CAD which I must pay by December 31st.

Evoke the Future: Gallery and Community Center

<span style="color:rgb(51,51,51);">On 12/9/23 I had a full on aerotic cerebral stroke caused most likely by a tear in the artery at the back of my right brain. This led to a blood clot and mini strokes leading to a massive blockage and big stroke that manifested after skiing the powder at Winter Park, aka death by pow (wouldn’t go out any other way). Unfortunately, I didn’t grasp what was going on until I could not stand or speak Monday morning and have been at the hospital in Thornton ever since, in and out of ICU but progressing . My parents, Anita &amp; Patrick, are here to support me as I navigate this difficult journey. I expect to be here for several days to a week more, and then off to acute rehab for as long as it takes to get me home and back to somewhat “normal”. I’m being told that could be many months to a year. It will be frustrating, but I am “young”, strong, and athletic which all improves my chances for successful recovery. <br /><br />Currently, my speech, swallowing, and walking are compromised. Equilibrium is off and right side is slightly numb - I can walk a little already and speak with difficulty. For now, the heart seems good but still concerning and the docs installed a heart monitor. <br /><br />As if this wasn’t enough…While I could barely breathe in the ICU, friends looked after my small and scruffy little dog, Luna. She escaped and was soon found dead, tragically hit by a driver which destroyed me mentally. <br /><br />I’m asking for help to recover physically and mentally. I have some insurance but expect to be out of pocket significantly. There will be a lot of physical rehab from the stroke and it will be hard. <div>Super Typhoon Odette (aka Typhoon Rai) hit our home island of Bohol, PH on December 16th. This typhoon was extremely devastating, with the current death toll being almost 400, and thousands of families left homeless from flooding, violent winds, and torrential rains that took their homes. There was no power on the island and no cell service for almost a week, leaving us here in Canada terrified — not knowing what was happening, where our family was, or if they were okay. Thankfully, my family was kept safe. Which is the most important thing above anything else! However, their home, (our family home), has been almost completely destroyed.

<div>My family’s home in Cahayag, Bohol was built in the early 1960s by my late grandparents. My aunts, uncles, and cousins live in this house. My mom grew up in this house, and it is the place I call home when we go to visit our family. This house was always a safe haven for everyone in the neighbourhood, where other families would take shelter during earthquakes and storms because they knew it would be safe under its roof. When an earthquake hit Bohol in 2014, destroying much of the houses and infrastructures on the island, our house, miraculously, was still standing. Unfortunately, the house was no match for Typhoon Odette. Home insurance isn’t really a thing in the Philippines, and natural disasters have no form of coverage. This is where I need anyone’s help I can get.

<p>i am once again asking the help of my community to help me finance school. I was accepted in the Design program at Concordia University in Fine Arts. I would like to be able to dedicate my full time to my studies but as some of you may know capitalism and working to survive makes it very difficult. I also have a physical disability which makes it hard for me to do physical labour and experiencing stress can worsen my pain and other symptoms. Therefore working a 9-5 plus attending school full time will be very difficult for me physically and mentally.

Alors, travailler et l'école à temps-plein serait une situation très précaire pour moi physiquement et mentalement.<br />L'argent ramassé ira vers mon loyer pour les prochains 6+ mois, materiel d'école et d'autres dépenses essentielles. J'aurais peut-être a refaire ce levée de fonds si rien ne change dans ma situation puisque mon programme durera 4 ans.

Help Grapes study without financial stress

This is a fundraiser for <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elle_barbs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Elle Barbara</a> as a gesture of support in a particularly trying time.  While this pandemic has of course been a chaotic and difficult ongoing event for all of us, Elle has been dealing with the aftermath of traumatic events resulting from crisis intervention to significant loss and grief. The final push to make this GoFundMe as a friend of Elle's was the fact that she's slowly losing (and tired of fighting) an ongoing battle with her landlord who has been trying to evict her for years (classic Montreal renoviction scenario). <br /><br />This fundraiser is not a charity; when transwomen, and specifically Black transwomen are faced with housing insecurity, it is on the community to extend support in all ways possible. This looks like: MONETARY $UPPORT, keeping Elle in mind if you plan on leaving your lease, sending her affordable housing options, etc.<br /><br />The funds raised in this GoFundMe will be used by Elle for whatever she may need in the coming months; this can range from: money to pay the landlord in the event that she loses her case, help with legal fees / hiring lawyers for the ongoing case, money to help with her move, money to cover the inevitable rental increase if / when she is forced out of her rent controlled apartment, money towards her therapy, healing and reprieve, money to put towards a residency she is hoping to attend, money to put towards surgeries she has been saving up for, money to live as a person who is disproportionately affected by common grievances (such as eviction) as a Black transwoman.  <br /><br />Elle is a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/houseofbarbara_/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">house mother</a>, a community organizer, a frontline worker, (and so much more) and she is a dear friend to so many. If you know her at all, you are aware of her reluctance to accept help of any kind, however she humbly allowed me to create this GoFundMe, so please take this opportunity to directly support her by sending some money and sharing this in your circles.
