<div>On March 8th, Shannon got a call from her mom and found out her father, Jon Fujinaka, had passed away. It's been a hard time since then but we're taking it day by day and working through the emotions as we go.

<div>As you can imagine there is a long list of tasks to handle after a family member passes. We're looking to raise some funds to help her family with the some of the death expenses and other unexpected costs that have come up.

<div>My name is Jodie Okimoto and my cousins Kim, Ashley and I are writing on behalf of our grandparents; Thomas and Florence Kunishige. In the wake of the Maui wildfires, like many around them, Tom and Flo have lost their home and every physical belonging they own.

<div>This is a devastating loss for our entire family. Their house held the memories of multiple generations. On the outside, decorated with rows of orchids, a refrigerator for anyone to grab a juice, and a beautiful front lawn where their son, Curtis, would lay out his catch of the day. On the inside it was decorated with pictures of their loved ones, party favors from special events, and a collection of ceramic turtles and salt and pepper shakers (many of which were gifts, I’m sure).

<div>Born and raised in Lahaina, Tom and Flo were high school sweethearts who graduated from Lahainaluna High School. Shortly after, they moved to California to start their family and careers. Several years later, it was the right time to come home to Lahaina, so they could give their children a high-quality education, away from city life.

</div>
<div>Tom and Flo have been a part of this unique community for over 48 years and have touched the lives of so many people. Tom radiates positive energy and good vibes. When you hear his infectious laugh, it’s hard not to join in. His smile also lights up the room. Flo is a humble woman with an extremely strong work ethic. She has a precision for detail, which she passed on to her children. You can find Flo working in her yard or finding other ways to keep busy around the house.

<div>Their kindness is admirable because they are so selfless and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. This year has been challenging for both Tom and Flo, in regards to their health, the loss of loved ones, and now the loss of their home and physical memories.

<div>Hi, my name is Jhez. My baby Earl (he’s a scottish fold) is 3 months old, he’s very young but doctors said that he needs surgery. Its been a couple days and he’s currently hospitalized. We’re doing our best to stabilize him but things aren’t looking well. He needs to undergo surgery that would require me to take him to a Critical Care Center.

<div>We came in initially thinking there was an obstruction in his stomach/ intestines. Did xrays and ultrasounds to verify that but nothing showed up. Doctors treated him with medications to control his vomiting (he was throwing up blood and brown liquid). He didnt respond to the medications and he still wasnt eating since Saturday. 
</div>

<div>Last resort was the stomach surgery to check whats making him physically weak and extremely lethargic. There was nothing in his stomach/intestines. They proceeded to do an exploratory surgery just incase they missed anything. They found that the GI tract isnt moving at all. (Its the inability of the intestine (bowel) to contract normally and move waste out of the body.)

<div>He’s been on medications for almost a week, has not responded to it, he’s refusing to eat, and he seems to be declining. By tomorrow morning, the doctor said he has to be better. If not, we have to explore other options. I really hope it doesnt get to that.

Earl needs stomach surgery

<div>Our mom passed away peacefully Tuesday 1/17/2023 surrounded by her family as she drew her last breath. From her sudden hospitalization to her final moments, she remained a firecracker of a woman as many of us including myself will remember her by. She worked hard every single day to raise this family and gave us nothing short of everything. Day after day she endured and broke everyone's expectations, even in the month-long hospitalization with leukemia she fought till the very end. Although we are stricken with grief and utter disbelief, we hope that her suffering has ended and she may rest peacefully. We love you so much, mom.

<p>She was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer and I want to help her as much as I can to pay off her medical bills. Stage 2 colon cancer is thankfully curable but only with the help of chemo treatments. As you know, treatment for this condition can be expensive and very stressful so I am going to do my best to achieve this goal as close as possible. Because of her procedures, she is going to be needing more assistance and relief from her financial needs. I love my girlfriend so much and it sucks to have this come about in her life.

<p>Laura is only 29 years old and has yet to live everything that life has to offer. She is a selfless person and always goes out of her way to make sure her friends and family are a priority. She is a strong hardworking woman that has dealt with many adversities in the past, but nothing like this. Before being diagnosed, Laura planned to take her ultrasound tech exam but was hit with this unfortunate news. She now has to put those plans on hold as chemo will be a long process. Laura has yet to fulfill her aspirations in life and would not take this opportunity of help for granted.

<p>If you know Laura, you would know that she is a very giving person and never asks for anything. She tends to to keep things private, so coming on this platform and asking for help was not easy for her. Chemo treatments aren’t cheap and her health insurance won’t cover much. Laura and her family would greatly appreciate the assistance in funding her medical expenses.

Support Laura's Cancer Journey

Hi everyone! My name is Lexus and here’s a little update for you guys. On November 22nd, my Popo (this means Grandma in Cantonese) was admitted to the hospital on her birthday. She tested positive for COVID, and we thought she could recover from home but that wasn’t the case. On her birthday, my mom checked up on her and noticed how she was having a difficult time breathing and how pale she was. She’s has developed pneumonia, and she’s been transferred to ICU. This is really difficult to do, but I’m asking for your help. Anything helps. Prayers for her health, sharing this link, donating if you can, or supporting my mom’s flower business by placing an order. <br /><br />We are overwhelmed with this news and already struggling to make ends meet. Popo needs this medical care and we are grateful she is in good hands, but the cost of being in the ICU is more than we can handle. We rather have her home with us. MyYong Lee Funeral

The recent brush fire off 82nd Ave could have been a lot worse but thanks to Portland Fire and Rescue and many other stations, the fire has been contained. Unfortunately, that was not the case for our house. We are thankful to have our animals and all people safe but the same cannot be said about our belongings. 3 humans, 3 dogs and a cat have been displaced and are houseless from this tragedy.
