Disabled Father on Dialysis Needs Safe Shelter

<div>Hey friends, I’m a disabled artist who has become a lot more disabled and lost both my workspace and my day job over the last few years. I’m currently struggling a lot to pay my bills by doing odd jobs and occasional commissions. My partner helps me out as much as he can and I’ve received a lot of help from friends and family too. My health doesn’t allow for me to work any more than I already am and frankly, the 3ish days a week I am working is often too much. My mother has early onset dementia and I am helping my sister care for her as much as I can while trying to stay afloat.

<div>Edit: For those curious about my health problems, my major issues are MCAS, EDS, Crohn’s, and most likely POTS. I am doing my best to manage my conditions and take care of myself without access to healthcare, so mainly using OTC drugs and supplements.

<div>A large financial hurdle is I’m facing late fees and fines from city taxes from a city that I haven’t lived in for years. This city is an hour and a half drive from where I stay with my parents and the list of documents they want and the amount of money they want just keep growing. I am at my wits end, I don’t want to end up with a court summons and don’t know what to do besides pay what they’re asking. I’ve attached the amount I owe for one of the years, I will be dealing with four or five years in total. The kicker is I hardly owed any tax to begin with this is mostly late fees and fines. I expect to owe over $1000 by the end of this.

<div>I also have some hospital bills in collections that I have not even had the energy to look at. I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to get on medicaid.

<div>Our disabled family of 4 is in a desperate situation, fighting legal battles due to a negligently operated mobile home park attempting to repossess our fully owned home that still has another $12k in roof payments over the next decade. We have been unable to make rent payments since income was lost due to injuries and disabilities. Management didn't notify residents that their license was revoked from October 2024 until December 2025, but they collected rent and operated business as usual, with constant boil water notices. We were able to pay rent until April when LTD was terminated and we are in a legal suit about that, but that's one legal battle of several.

<div>Both adults are medically fully disabled but not receiving SSI due to systemic denials and have lawyers in appeals fighting for us. We are also in communication with a state senator representative and legal aid. We all have case workers trying to help, but resources are limited.

Disabled family needs help from medical and housing problems

<div>Last year, we were facing eviction. Thanks to the hard work and generosity of this community, we managed to raise $10,000 to push it off, but our landlord has reclaimed the apartment. Unfortunately, this isn’t something you can fight, and we’ve been given 30 days to pack up and move.

<div>My mother and I are both disabled. I have been sick since high school, and my mom has been my caretaker since then. I have occipital neuralgia and several degenerative spinal conditions that cause severe chronic pain. I am bedbound most of the day, I wear a neck brace, and I use a walker when I’m outside. My mother is recently disabled due to covid. She now has tachycardia, arrhythmia, and is currently being tested for other conditions. These tests have taken a heavy toll on her, physically and emotionally, and she is absolutely exhausted. She’s now doing worse than I am, and she needs to be able to rest comfortably.

<div>After a year of fighting, we were finally approved for temporary rental assistance by our county, but obviously we still have to find an apartment. We need a safe place to stay, preferably one where we’re not sharing a bed. An Airbnb is the best bet for us right now. We would have access to a kitchen so we can still use our EBT, we could get a bed and a pullout couch, and we would be able to extend the stay past a month if we need.

<div>In the frenzy of packing everything up, I forgot to get started on crowdfunding sooner, so I’m honestly not expecting to meet this goal. Anything we can get would help. We have 16 days before we need to be out of here, and as of now we have nowhere to go and no money to rent a space. An Airbnb in our area will be at least $3,500 for a month long stay, but I’m setting the goal at $3,750 to make up for transfer fees. If we end up with any extra donations, it will go towards moving expenses or medical care.
