<b>In loving memory of our son, Oliver James Gerrish
<br /><br />Why I'm Running?
</b><br /><br />On 7th April 2024, our beautiful son, Oliver James Gerrish—affectionately known as “Jolly Ollie”—was born. Tragically, just one day later, on 8th April 2024, our dear Oliver entered heaven as he peacefully passed away in our arms.

His time with us was painfully short, but his life was filled with immeasurable love, beauty, and purpose. From the moment we knew he existed, he became the centre of our world. We celebrated every kick, every scan, every tiny milestone. His nickname, “Jolly Ollie,” came from a scan photo where he looked like the happiest little soul with a smile on his face. That joy, that light, never left him—and it never will.
<br /><br />Oliver was diagnosed shortly after birth with HIE (Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy)—a severe brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen. It’s a condition that affects around 50 babies each week in the UK, and in many cases, like Oliver’s, the outcome is devastating. There are no words to fully describe the helplessness, the love, the heartbreak of watching your newborn fight for life while knowing you may have to say goodbye.
<br /><br />In those sacred hours with him, both painful and precious, we held him, kissed him, and told him how very much he’s loved. We are forever grateful to be his parents. <br /><br />Now, I’m running the London Marathon 2026 for Oliver. Nothing will ever fill the void he’s left, but we will always choose to celebrate his short, yet impactful, life. I want his name—Jolly Ollie—to be a light in the darkness for other families like ours.

<br /><br />In the midst of the most heartbreaking experience of our lives, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices wrapped us in compassion and care. <br /><br />

<li><span>They care for over 800 families each year across London and Surrey. </span>
</li>
<li><span>They support babies and children with life-limiting conditions, and those who have died. </span>

<li><span>They offer end-of-life care, respite, counselling, memory-making, and a place where grief is held gently and without judgment. </span>

</ul><span><br />Their work is profoundly humane, and it is desperately needed.

Running for Jolly Ollie - London Marathon 2026

<div>We pay our business rates. We pay our VAT. We contribute positively to our neighbourhood. We increase the value of our neighbourhood. We fill in their forms. We jump through their hoops.
</div>
<div>We do all of this and more. So can we rely on our council to look after us in return? Or treat us fairly? No.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This is the sad reality of running a small high street business. In our experience anyway.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the 21st February we (temporarily) lost a fight with Hammersmith and Fulham council and were forced to close Move due to a noise complaint under the Noise + Nuisance Act. Although the immediate matter was temporarily solved in a matter of days, the battle is very much ongoing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Prior to the complaint and threats of foreclosure, no member of the council came to the studio or offered to meet with us. No member of the council suggested a positive solution. Nobody offered help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We of course make noise. We are a gym. We do not however wish to be a nuisance to, or negatively impact the daily lives of our neighbours. Finding a reasonable solution is all we ever asked. But this was asking too much.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In order to reopen the gym, we spent £7000+ to further soundproof our ceilings and pillars. We believed this would solve the majority of the problem. However, it turns out the Officer wrongly informed us as to the location of the complainant and as such, the works were in vain.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Legal fees included we have now spent in excess of £11,000 trying to resolve this issue. However we find ourselves back at square one, with the threat of a forced closure becoming a very real thing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In order to prevent further action from the council, we must now install noise-reducing secondary glazing to our rear side windows (to prevent noise leakage to the actual area of complaint). We will also be installing a new ventilation system as we can no longer open said windows without breaching terms set out by the council.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This time, instead of asking the council for help, we are swallowing our pride and asking you.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are able to help in anyway, big or small, we would be incredibly grateful to be able to put this nightmare behind us and get back to focussing on what we do best; serving our members and making people happy :)

<div>Our target is £7,500. This will cover 75% of the costs. If we fall short, we will dig deep and cover the costs regardless. If we raise more? We will cap it at £10,000 (the total cost of works).

<div>Hi Team - We have come a long way from a quiet coffee morning in February when the first Chat Cancer coffee morning began, it is a privilege to be where we are now.

<div>A little about my story for those who don't know me. My name is Josh and I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer July 4th 2020. Things took a slight turn when my diagnosis was upped to Stage 4 Colon Cancer in October 2022. The whole journey has been a rocky road of chemo, radiation, surgeries, colonoscopies and being prodded and poked by more needles than I can remember. I've come out the other end with a few war wounds, a positive attitude and a desire to make a positive difference for my fellow cancer patients. This period has had its ups and downs but out of its darkness has come a force for good.

<div>I wanted to create a community whereby young adults going through cancer could be connected with one another as well as providing help and support when your are going through chemo. Which bring us to the birth of Chat Cancer, we began on a rainy Saturday morning at my London flat in March. A small group of us met and had the chance to digest and decompress our cancer journeys.

<div>Chat Cancer aims to assist in the support and care of young adults suffering from cancer of any description or in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness, by the provision of support networks. To raise awareness of the rise in cancer in young people.
</div>

<div>The future for our community is looking bright; I am pleased to share that Chat Cancer is in the process of being registered as a charity and we expect this to be completed before the end of the year. Please note that all funds will remain on here until the charity is registered. We will be putting some good back into the world :).
