On Sunday evening, a fire broke out in my house, leaving me with nothing but the clothes on my back. I lost all my possessions, and tragically, my mom and my dog passed away in the fire. The shock and grief have been overwhelming, and I am now facing the challenge of starting over from scratch.

 Right now, I am in urgent need of a place to live, clothing, and food. The funds raised through this campaign will help me secure temporary housing, replace essential items, and cover basic living expenses as I try to rebuild my life. Sukunabikona is known to be a god of healing, agriculture, plant medicine, <em>sake</em>, fermentation, microorganisms, and hot springs. We believe that this deity would be of a great protector for us here in the community of Catskills but also in the US.

<div>Shinto, the oldest religion in Japan is the spiritual backbone for many Japanese people and its culture seeing divinity in many natural objects. It is our hope that the creation of a small shrine for Sukunahikona-no Mikoto will offer spiritual support and many benefits for the Japanese and local communities in the area and that it will become a “power spot” for those who strive to bring harmony to the planet.

He will travel from Japan to commence a ritual ceremony to welcome the deity to reside in the new home here in the Catskill Mountains. We are very grateful that he has been a tremendous supporter of this project.

<div>Recently the perfect location for the project was found within the beautiful grounds of Menla in Phoenicia, NY. Menla is a retreat facility and a renowned spa surrounded by pristine mountain forest, which was revered as a sacred place by its natives, the Esopus and the Mahicans. Menla operates under the auspices of Tibet House US in NYC, and it has committed to bring peace and spiritual awakening through their offerings. Their welcoming attitude to bring the deity Sukunabikona has been very moving. Menla’s grounds and its land are open to the public, and visitors who wish to pay homage to Sukunabikona are welcome anytime.

<div>My brother Joshua was recently diagnosed with a pituitary adenoma. This is a benign tumor in front of his pituitary gland, behind the eyes, and under the brain.
</div>

<div>Joshua was hiking a few weeks ago when he noticed that he could not see properly out of his right eye. It wasn’t just blurry, it was faded, and hard to make out the next steps in front of him. He went to the eye doctor that week and after much testing, it was recommended that he get an immediate MRI.
</div>

</div>

<div>This led to the diagnosis and began a rapidly unfolding process of preparing him for brain neurosurgery to have this growth removed. It turns out that 1 in 5 people have this condition, doctors say the cause is random and unknown. A small percentage of people require surgery to remove them because they grow large enough to pinch the optic nerve, leading to a rapid loss of vision.  If nothing is done, the vision loss becomes permanent.
</div>

<div>The surgery will stop the loss of eyesight from getting worse, and there is a strong possibility that his vision will improve. It is however a serious procedure, and he will have 4-6 weeks of recovery time with many follow-up visits to specialists after, and monitoring into the future.

<div>Currently, Joshua can not see well enough to drive, and many of his usual daily activities have become limited or not possible.
</div>

<div>Thankfully, he does have insurance to cover some of his medical costs, but out-of-pocket costs will be high too. In preparation for this, Joshua has received multiple MRIs, a CT scan, and many trips to the lab for blood work. He will have recovery time in the hospital ICU, then weeks of recovery at home.

So our parents were part of a tragic fire (The Almeda Fire) in Southern Oregon and lost absolutely everything that they owned. The only thing that was  saved was themselves and their cat. We are all devastated and at a loss for words at the moment. They just purchased their home and were so proud to finally have had something to call their own, only to lose it all in this tragedy. My mother who works at the local hospital lost all of her scrubs for work along with everything else they own. I was told recently by a realtor that the "American Dream" of buying a house is almost impossible for a family like mine due to the covid great migration from the city.  I've learned since getting sober two years ago that nothing is impossible. This GoFundMe is a call for help to get my family in a forever home. Between my partner and I we work over 60 hours a week while raising four children. Even with all this we can't put money away. Landlords don't want a family of our size, don't like the type of dogs I have simply because of their breed and I can't continue to move my children every two years once the rent gets too high for us to pay. As you can see, she adores her chickens (and her other animals), and is deeply devoted to both family and friends.  <br /><br />In August of 2015, work was becoming increasingly difficult for Johanna.  Shortly thereafter, Johanna was rushed to the hospital.  Her kidneys were shutting down and it was necessary to have a procedure that placed tubes in her kidneys in order to drain fluid that was backing up.  Upon further investigation, and a rather challenging and long hospital stay, it was discovered that she has a large, inoperable cancerous mass in and around her uterus.   <br /><br />Johanna is currently working carefully with doctors and various practitioners to treat the cancer and recover her health. Even though the cancer is rather advanced, we all have a genuine hope that she will be able to heal from this and be well again.  Her longterm partner, Paul, has been by her side during this entire time.  He too is suffering from his own debilitating physical challenges that he is addressing as well caring for Johanna.<br /><br />During this time, neither of them have been able to work.   They have downsized their small farm, sold their farm equipment, and exhausted their financial reserves in an effort to keep up with the bills.  They are quickly running out of resources, so I decided to launch this outreach.<br /><br />The money that will be raised will be going towards food, basic living expenses for Johanna (and Paul) and for Johanna's ongoing medical treatment.<br /><br />It is my wish, my hope,  my prayer, that Johanna (and Paul) have the ease of mind to continue on their healing journey without the stress of losing their home or being unable to continue necessary treatment. <br /><br />Any and all amounts are so greatly appreciated! I thank you all in advance for your generosity monetarily and/or in sending Love her way!!<br /><br />With love and gratitude,<br />Sarah <br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></p>
