Rebecca is starting this fundraiser for her mom, Sallie, who has been hit with one heartbreaking challenge after another. Sallie has stage 4 emphysema and was placed on full-time oxygen just two weeks ago. Then last Friday, she suffered a fall that led to an ambulance ride, surgery for a broken hip, and two frightening days in the ICU. For a while, the family truly thought they might lose her. Thankfully, Sallie is now in inpatient rehabilitation in Bristol, working toward recovery while her family prepares for her return home. She lives alone and relies on Social Security, with very limited savings, so this sudden medical crisis has placed a heavy burden on her and the people who love her.
These funds will help make Sallie’s home safe and accessible by building a wheelchair ramp and getting the house ready for her return after therapy. They will also help cover family travel so Rebecca and Sallie’s other children can come from Nashville, Orlando, Ohio, and the USVI to help care for Sallie and her dog, Maggie. Rebecca, a retired Army veteran and Sallie’s closest child, plans to stay in the home and commute between Nashville and Bristol while Sallie regains strength. Donations may also help with medical bills if care extends beyond 90 days and costs are no longer covered. Most of all, this is a request for Sallie to feel loved, supported, and not alone during what will likely be a 12-plus-week recovery. Sallie relies heavily on her faith and would greatly appreciate any and all prayers. If you are able, please share, pray, or give to support Momma Sallie on her road to healing.
