AJ Sanchez

My name is AJ, I am a former foster youth living with autism, as well as a gender nonconforming person of color, and a struggling student trying to maintain stability and consistency in my studies. As a Mexican American college student, I have faced many challenges, but one of the biggest has been my ongoing struggle with dental issues and continuation of my mental/physical healthcare that I simply cannot afford or have access to. Despite my best efforts to balance school and life, the ongoing chronic pain I have experienced over the last four years has made it incredibly difficult to focus on my studies and move forward with my goals. Right now, I am in college for film studies, working hard to build a better future for myself. However, the cost of the dental care I need is far beyond my means, and it has become virtually impossible to manage both my health and my living expenses on my own. Despite my diagnoses, I have been refused care and accused of false claims of my mental health conditions which adds just another layer of struggle. Along with my struggles in these regards, as a gender non-conforming individual I am also at risk from the federal overreach issued by the Trump administration. With the remaining funds, my goals are to relocate to a country that will support my journey and add one more instance of sustainability in my life. In light of my situation, I am reaching out for financial assistance because I believe that with the right support that is not offered through institutional or familial support, I have a real chance of gaining stability. My hopes are to gain communal support and receive the care I need, continue my education without these hardships, and improve my general quality of life without the constant burden of pain and uncertainty.
