My moms laughter & high spirits have a way of making even the toughest days brighter for those lucky enough to know her. Last year, she lost her brother, my Uncle Chuck, to a medical emergency, and now she finds herself facing a similar challenge. For years, she’s struggled with a swollen belly and GI issues, but a week ago, the pain became unbearable. She asked me to take her to the ER, and after a whirlwind of tests, she underwent emergency surgery. The doctors found a mass, and after a six-hour operation, she is now recovering—exhausted, but still fighting with the same determination she has always had. We’re waiting on pathology results to learn more about her condition and what the next steps will be. She’s being encouraged to get up and move around, and she’s doing her best to stay positive. St Francis downtown has been wonderful in caring for her, especially as a non-insured patient, and we’re praying for a sponsorship to help with her medical bills. However, while she focuses on healing, she’s so close to paying off her home, and I want to make sure she doesn’t have to worry about losing it while she recovers. I understand that money is tight for so many right now, but truly anything will count.
